A new thread needed here already! Lovely Grumblin who started the second one, may be actually having that baby at this minute!

I hope this will be a source of support for present sufferers and ex sufferers alike and also worried family members.

I want particularly to mention my favourite feline FluffyWhiteKittens, who has been so invaluable a source of support on the old threads, and MOH, who has slaved to produce articles full of useful information and links to useful websites, LaTrucha, lovely CaramelloKoalaLover, Grumblin, NitNat, La, Lottie, Grandmagain, MaryLou, Cocoanuts and so many that I cannot name everyone for fear that the current sufferer may became annoyed at the long list...

Never worry about tmi or moaning. When suffering one has to discuss things that would make most people go weak at the knees and to have a good moan can help enormously with an illness where there is still a lot of ignorance and sometimes insensitive treatment.

It might help to remember - when you are at your worst - the words in that Eastern story.
'This Too Shall Pass.'

NitNat Welcome to the Pink Castle! Grin Grin Grin WineBrew Let me pass you some cushions, my goodness...
Another beautiful name and a good birth weight. Ah, but that birth sounds unpleasant enough - all that throwing up and passing out, and you did so amazingly, too, to get to fully dilated on only gas and air only to be disappoited. It's not fair! I do hope the cut mends quickly, hobbles is the word.
Louby Aubergine Blissfull LilyRose how are you? Hmm

Nitnat Congratulations!!!! What a lovely name - and we share the same surname!!! Sounds like you had an evenful labour but you sound remarkebly chirpy on your post!! Hope everything heals quickly!!

Louby I am genuinely horrified at your boss's reaction. What a ! Do you have an occupational health department that you can contact. I ended up having 10 weeks off work and got lots of support from my Occ. health dept!

Belladons · 24/07/2011 12:06

Hi all, my DH and I are planning to TTC towards the end of this year. I had a pregnancy 9 years ago, but did not continue with the pregnancy after 9 weeks. My circumstances were very different to now, and I was not with my DH. BUT, I did suffer with HG whilst waiting and was hospitalised. The whole thing has freaked me out as I know that it will most likely happen again, and so I really would love some advise on how to prevent things from getting so bad next time, and whether there is anything I can do to get the right help from the very start? I assume visit GP as soon as I know that I am PG and tell them about my history?

I am also extremely worried about work, I need to save as much money as possible before the birth, and worry about being on sick leave. I have been with my company for many years so am entitled to the maximum 8 weeks Company sick pay - but from what I have read, I could suffer for much longer than this.

At this happy time when I am so ready, it feels a shame to already know that I have this to deal with. I remember reading somewhere about drop in centers where you can go to regularly hydrate without having to go to A&E, can't find any info on it now - has anyone else heard of anything like this.

Many thanks in advance - I already feel much better about what lies ahead just by seeing so many people helping each other on here.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 24/07/2011 12:37

nitnat Fantastic news :) :)

bella Firstly hello :)

You may not necessarily suffer with HG this time although, as you say it is best to be prepared. A GP visit as soon as you get your BFP to outline your history and guage how forthcoming and knowledgeable they are regarding HG. If you don't like your GPs attitude, you will have perhaps a few weeks to find a better one before HG kicks in. Getting the right meds to suit you can be hit and miss or you can be lucky and the first one you try might be fab.

Unfortunately I am a SAHM and have no experience with SSP or CSP. Do you have an Occ Health department you could talk to about your needs and rights? you could suffer longer than 8 weeks or you may not. Mine was bad from week 6 to week 16, and I began to function more normally from week 16 - 20 where it completely talied off and am back to normal except when takin tablets or brushing teeth. Everyone is different.

There are becoming more drop in centres available and I think a new one has just opened in Birmingham.

Here are some links to help you:

Pregnancy Sickness SOS - A new website built by our own MOH with input from lots of us. Very very helpful. Essential reading. Info on good foods and drinks to try and info to print off to take to GP.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum Facebook Group - FB group with lots of personal stories, and trying to raise awareness.

Good luck with your TTC journey, feel free to come here anytime :)

Belladons · 24/07/2011 12:53

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts thank you so much :) MOH has already very kindly been in touch with some very good advice and introduced me to her fantastic website.

Best wishes to all with their journeys too, and I hope that I will be able to return in a few months to share my experiences with you.

Congratulation Nitnat although you sound like you deserve a medal! Another beautiful name. Your experience sounds very similar to my sister's and although it was traumatic at the time and the healing period was no fun she has healed completely and suffers no long term issues.

Slightly scared to now be next on the list but as Johnny says we will keep you informed!!

allhailtheaubergine · 24/07/2011 15:12

Hello

Why do you call this the pink castle?

I'm not having a great day.

I threw up my sickness tablet in the shower and have been vomiting again today. I'm mostly heaving and bringing up bile. I feel so horribly bloated - I find it hard to know what amounts of things to eat when on the tablets. Also (TMI) I am completely constipated (again, tablets I think). And I have the most vile bitter taste in my mouth. Woe is me! Am struggling to drink again today too. And it was 48 degrees earlier.

Moan moan moan. Ooof this is hard.

allhailtheaubergine · 24/07/2011 15:15

Oh, and just to complete my catalogue of whinge, was driving earlier today - had to pull up to throw up; grabbed my plastic bag and vomited mightily... only to discover that there was a hole in the bag and it was all leaking all over my car. And then I couldn't stop, so I just carried on heaving into my leaky bag with the kids screaming at each other in the back.

ElliottsMummy · 24/07/2011 15:28

Huge congratulations Nitnat - hope yourself and your little pink bundle are chilling out in the pink castle! Another lovely name - putting the pressure on!! :) sorry birth wasn't a great experience but hopefully now that HG has left you it kinda makes up for it! Xx

La73 · 24/07/2011 15:40

Welcome Matilda Rose :) and well done Nitnat. Sounds like a very eventful birth, poor thing; hopefully you're not too sore and Matilda is doing ok.

Thanks all for well wishes; Lillian (named after my beloved late gran) is doing really well and such a calm sleepy baby I feel blessed and quite frankly a little shocked after baby experience w DD1! As birth such a good experience this time and only 20 stitches I'm also feeling pretty good :)

Louby not only does your boss sound like a tw** but also like you have cause for complaint on sexual discrimination grounds - you may want to ask ACAS for advice...

Welcome Aubergine & Donna

Luce good luck x

LucindaE · 24/07/2011 16:53

Auburgene Re; the 'pink castle' its crazy, but we had this vision of this thread being like a horrible board game, you know, 'puking until peeing, back three spaces' and at the end, with the actual birth and end of suffering, I imagined a lovely pink castle in the clouds as was depicted on an old Snakes and Ladders board I had as a kid! From that followed visions of a cyber rest room, complete with serving genie, etc...
Sorry you are having such a horrible day, you poor thing, and in such heat.
I know what you mean about the bloated feeling. How are liquids today? Puking in shower is miserable. On a thread like this, there's no tmi, so I will ask - was the tablet complete, and could you take another? Horrible about leaking bag, somebody recommended nappy bags, do those not have little holes in too, I can't remember? Anyway, you haven't lost your sense of humour. How are ice lollies for staying down in such heat?
Belladons Welcome, I can only second others' comments, I hope you don't need us after all, perhaps as last time it sounded stressful, that might have been a factor that tipped you over into Hyperemesis? Some escape it altogether or don't suffer anything like as much, particularly if its caught early. I was massively helped by Acupunture by the way, but I was lucky, it seems hit and miss.
Blissfull Best of luck for scan, I bet all is fine, of course, one is nervous. Keep checking for those ketones!
Louby As in my comments below, I am strill outraged [angry} at that boss.
The sexism...
Waves to Alpine Lilyrose LA NitNat Grumblin MOH ElliottsMummy Coconuts Angel Fluffy Lottie and Anyone I have rudely overlooked.
Luce You next, one of the group who were suffering so horribly round last Christmas.
Grumblin Remember 'this too shall pass'? round that time...and you sucking those lollies with temperatures of about -10 outside...
I am on a trip to High Wycombe tommorow, look after yourselves, mother hen will come clucking back on Saturday...By which time Luce may have delivered...

Oh you are lovely Lucinda. Thank you for the sympathy, it really is appreciated. Lol at "puking until peeing, back three spaces" - if only I didn't know exactly what that means. Well if this is a board game I've got a long way to go!

Unfortunately I had shampoo in my eyes and a 3yr old in the shower with me at the time so I couldn't tell if I lost the whole tablet or not, and as they're so drowsy making I didn't want to risk taking an extra when I had to drive somewhere this morning.

Good idea about the nappy bags. Will root out a stash.

Husband has come home with pomegranate juice and am sipping that - so far it's still down...

seapie · 24/07/2011 19:37

Hello

I'm a novice at this type of message thing, so I think I've just written my message on the old thread? Anyway, the basic question was, has anyone had the experience that stemetil works for a couple of days and then stops? This is my second pregnancy with HG and I'm miserable and sorry for myself...

louby86 · 24/07/2011 22:32

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all well!!!

Trying to go back to work tomorrow although not sure how long I'll last! Had a bad day today, hardly ate a thing but thankfully managed to drink quite a bit! Ran out of avomine so DH went to the pharmacy and explained and asked to buy some over the counter, she wouldn't let him and said I shouldn't be taken it! I've tried buccastem?? But I'm really not getting on with it!

All the talk of board games, think I've slid down a snake this weekend! Hope the rest of you have managed to climb some ladders!!!

Lou

theonlyhb2 · 25/07/2011 09:41

Oh wow congrats LA and NitNat. Beautiful names :) seems to be a spate of girls, i wonder what mine will be!

No internet so on fone which has been crap at loading anything. Bloody Nokia's.

Measuring 2 weeks under but head been down for a while now so they not worried. Said if they measured me in afternoon i would be bigger. Belly always looks flatter in the morning!

Getting used to being off now. Still puking daily. Discovered haribo give me really bad Heartburn which makes me puke. How cruel! I can't eat much as so squashed and and sure i getting BH. Nursery etc all done so just waiting for baby! Perhaps we should start thinking of names now? Although i am convinced once i see it i shall know its name (should be on the instruction manual, right?!)

i think worst bit is now Carpal tunnel issues. Can barely grip and wake with numb arms. Might go for Manicure just for the hand and arm massage

LucindaE · 25/07/2011 10:50

Just dashing on before going down to Bucks for four days. Take care of yourselves, everyone.
Welcome Seapie, I wish I could answer your question about Stemitil, but I am sure someone will. Sorry your are suffering, feel free to come and moan. Are any liquids working for you at the moment? Have you got the magic sticks to test for ketones?
Aubergine I hope you are having a better day, that the tablet stayed down and that if any plastic bags are needed they work this time.
Louby Sorry to hear that, and going down a snake when feeling Ugh isn't to be recommended. I hope someone is waddling up a ladder?
TheOnly Sorry still puking, that is nasty.
Everyone Take care...

Hurrah for Nitnat, lovely name :) will hopefully be back later.

johnnyd1 · 25/07/2011 13:42

Excellent nitnat x this is johnny again! Luce feels like crap this morning. Is this a norm? 39 + 1 (as most of you know by now as she's next in line). Very tired. She thinks the HG may be returning but nowhere near like it was (thank god!). Feels 'ropey' and hasnot got any energy. Do you think she should rest rather than try to do stuff or vice-versa?
Cheers gals x

theonlyhb2 · 25/07/2011 14:04

johnny, they say that yr body purging everything (both ends....nice) is yr body starting to prepare for labour. I wonder if this is why she being more sick? Having not had a labour yet though i could be talking balls ;) hope luce ok x x

johnnyd1 · 25/07/2011 14:41

Ha ha 'theonly...' cheers mate x she hasn't been sick as yet but is feeling similar things to when she first developed the HG such as the tastes in the mouth and just a feeling of (as Luce puts it) 'grotty' etc. Nothing major but very tired and achy. I think she may be feeling grotty because she's watching 'Kyle'!!!!

grumblinalong · 25/07/2011 18:25

Congratulations nitnat welcome to the pink cstle. Passes cake. Your birth sounds dramatic, hope it hasn't traumatised you too much. Not fair after your HG hell. Lovely, lovely name, enjoy Matilda & welcome to the world baby girl.

We seem to have a run on girls...you'll be breaking that jonny & luce. I felt crap in the last week too, think HG likes to have a last hormaonal blast to put you off forever.

Will be back on tomorrow as trying to make tea at the moment.

MOH100 · 25/07/2011 21:38

nitnat can't believe I missed your birth post, congratulations. Your medal should be in the post after all that. Another lovely wee girl for the pink castle.

Don't want to introduce a downer on such a happy occasion but be careful with the nipple shield, I had to use one because my DD was prem and too small to grab the nipple without assistance, but -long story short - I ended up with a breast abcess. Your ducts dont drain evenly when you use a shield (midwife prob told you all this already) so you can easily get a blockage that turns infected, leads to mastitis etc. Mine shouldn't really have got to abcess stage but my healthcare professionals were a bit crap (where have we heard that before) and I wasn't referred to a surgeon quickly enough.

Hopefully you'll be fine though, you really really really don't deserve any more health problems.

louby86 · 26/07/2011 11:04

Hello everyone!

I'm so sorry I missed your birth post nitnat I'm not very good at reading this on my phone, clearly! Congratulations! Another beautiful name! I'm so happy for you!

Hope people aren't too nauseous, particularly as I don't know if it's me or the weather but it seems to be getting really muggy! How are you LucindaE?

I read something today about HG possibly having a link with people who have a history of migraines, I found that interesting as I've got a long history of migraines to the point where I was referred to a neurologist.

Had my first day back at work yesterday and for want of a better phrase grew some balls and waddled up a ladder! Told my boss what I thought of him, especially when he wanted a blow by blow account of when and where I'd been sick that morning! Having him done for discrimination and got a meeting with the union tomorrow, particularly after finding out my employee file that was missing from the cabinet they are not allowed to leave, was in the bag he takes home with him!

I've decided that we get enough crap off poorly informed health professionals and people we have to work with who take on the attitude of pregnancy is not an illness. There's 3 other people where I work and I'm now in the mindset that as a senior manager it is my responsibility to make sure I set an example and pave the way for everyone else in my workplace to be treated with respect! I think leaning over the toilet for so long has sent my brain a bit girl power crazy! Haha!

caramellokoalalover · 26/07/2011 15:32

It has been far, far too long since I posted, so sorry Blush. I seem to have been sucked into a post-baby vortex! After a good start to feeding little Scarlett things have become more and more difficult over the past couple of weeks and she likes to sleep in the sling with me holding her hands - not conducive to mumsnetting Sad. Good thing she is cute! That combined with a toddler who has decided to toilet train has meant I have been lurking and half composing messages but never finishing them for weeks! Excuses, excuses I hear you say, and yes Grumblin and Fluffy you put me to shame by managing to post with LOs to care for too!

So sorry to see that there are so many new people feeling rotten, but glad you have found this thread for support. I would have been lost without it.

Want to say a big welcome to the pink castle to La, katystar and nitnat!

Gorgeous names - us HG sufferers seems to have superb taste in baby names - and so glad everyone is fine, although nitnat sounds like you will be needing extra soft cushions for awhile yet. Rest up!

Luce can't believe you're in 'any day now' territory. Will be waiting for your good news and am putting aside plenty of Brew and Biscuit for you!

Big waves to everyone else too. Lucinda you do an amazing job staying up to date on here with everyone, don't know how you do it!

MotherofPearl · 26/07/2011 16:08

Hello everyone, this is going to have to be quick as am on computer at local library because wretched broadband at new house still not connected (Friday, they assure us). Many congratulations to La and NitNat on your entry to the pink castle, and your excellent choice of names! Lovely! So nice to hear that you've emerged on the other side. Welcome to Newbies, hope you're all surviving OK. Have not had time to properly read back through thread but will do when internet restored. Eeeek, timer about to cut me off. I'm ok, glad move is over, not too many pukes this last week, so that's something. :)
