Are subsequent babies always bigger?

My first baby weighed in at 9lb 2oz. No idea how we made one so big as me and DH are both on the small side, but there you go. Now I'm 4 months pregnant with number two and am looking huge already. Just wondered if those of you who have had more than one baby have found that the next ones are always bigger?
I know it's more to do with head circumference rather than weight, but the thought of this one being even bigger than DS1 does make my eyes water.

Mine didn't.

DD1 - 8lb3oz
DD2 - 7lb14oz
DS - 1lb14oz
DD3 - 6lb9oz

I am the eldest of 5 and was the second lightest, so I think it is probably not true that second and subsequents are heavier....I hope for you anyway!

Not necessarily. My DS1 was 9lbs and 9oz, I had growth scans with DD1 because of it and she was born at a similar gestation 2lbs lighter, at 7lbs 9oz.

I ate a better diet with my DD, thus gaining less weight myself. I also thought that perhaps her gender had something to do with it.

Mine was unfortunately! DD1 7.5lb, DD2 8.6lb, have no idea what number three will be!

no is the short answer I have 3 sons, ds1 was 9lb 3oz, ds2 was 8lb 6oz and ds3 was a whopping 10lb 14oz!!!!

And its true that the bigger the weight does not necessarily mean the harder the birth, number one birth was horrible, and I cried all the way through pregnancy number two as I was dreading the birth so much, however it was much better, and I got the epidural I asked for

Birth number three was the best by far, I did it all myself with just gas and air, no ventouse (which was how the other 2 had been delivered) and I made a much quicker recovery. And apart from having to send out for 3 month old babygrows because he wouldnt fit in the newborn ones I brought, every thing went pretty smoothly

Mine wasn't - first was 7lb5, second was 6lb15.

DS 8 lb 10 ozs and then DD 7 lb 11 ozs

8lb 15oz, 7lb 11.5oz, 7lb. Am now expecting #4 though and being predicted a 9lber.

I have had three all without 2 oz of each other.

So not here, this time I am hoping for a baby big enough to fit newborn clothes and not need a mad run to get tiny baby size!

I'm sure I read somewhere that this can also depend on the age gaps between the children, and that if you get pregnant less than 18 months after your first child is born your second is more likely to be slightly smaller as your body hasn't fully recovered it's reserves. But I'm sure that theory won't apply to everyone!

Interesting! Maybe there is some hope for me then. I put on nearly 3 stone with my first, so I guess that could have been part of it, but I think my diet is much better nowadays guiltily hides the empty biscuit packet in the bottom of the bin.
Despite his size, the birth of my son went well - had a water birth with gas and air - but he was in quite a hurry to arrive so I ended up with a bad tear. Anyone know if you're likely to tear again if you did the first time?

Second delivery was much easier, with no tear unlike with ds1! :)

DD2 was born at 37 weeks and DS2 at 41 weeks. The other 3 were born at 40 weeks.
Between DD1 and DD2 there is 4 1/2 years.
Between DD2 and DS2 there is 4yrs.

8lb 3oz followed by 6lb 15oz. DD must have known she was lined up for a VBAC and considerately didn't get as big as her brother, who entered the world arse-first via a surgical incision

Op: my first was 9lb 2oz too .

2nd was 8lb 15oz, but born at 39+2, whereas first baby was born at 40+5.

I know quite a few people whose second babies have been smaller than their first!

not in my case - 3.5kg, 3.3kg, 3kg - all similar gestations. #4 is predicted to be bigger but will have to wait & see.

Not for me,

1st - 7lb 13oz, hard labour
2nd - 7lb 3 oz, quick gas and air only
3rd - 9lb, very fast and no pain relief available, but the quickest and easiest by far.

Funny thing is that my 2nd was the one I was biggest for, but she was all fluid and little baby. 3rd, I was smaller but was bigger baby and little fluid!!!!!

So size of bump means nothing.

Did for me but DS was born at 38+3 with suspected pre-eclampsia and was 6lb 1oz

DD (born 22 months later) was born at 40+4 and weighed 7lb 11oz

I put on a lot of weight both times . Birth much easier with DD.

ds1 8.5lbs at 37 weeks
ds2 9.6lbs at 42 weeks
then
dd 6lbs at 39 weeks
