any truth in this? That would put me at having an actual Christmas baby! Not a problem but have been dreaming about a family Christmas and it didn't involve being on the labour ward!

Mine was 9 days early.
I (my mum's first) was 7 weeks early
My sister's was 2 weeks early

AtAmber · 08/06/2011 18:40

My 1st and 2nd were both 4 weeks early. 3rd was 2 weeks early. So you never know!

ilovedjasondonovan · 08/06/2011 18:40

DD1 - 7 days early#
DD2 - 2 days late

BertieBasset · 08/06/2011 18:45

DD 1 day late
DC2 due tomorrow so who knows Smile

I have seen some stats that say 75% of babies are born between 1 week before and 1 week after due date. As you can imagine I have a rather vested interest at the mo!

PrincessScrumpy · 08/06/2011 18:48

dd was 2 days early but many of my friends were overdue.

icravecheese · 08/06/2011 18:49

Both my babies were born bang on due date...

LaWeasel · 08/06/2011 18:50

DD was 4 days late.

I wouldn't vest too much in family history. I remember my friend being told there was no way she would get to her due date as none of the women in her family had gone that late, all the babies were a week or two early.

Then she went 10days over. Miffed is not the word!

PrisonerZero · 08/06/2011 18:51

DC1 - 2 weeks late (induced)
DC2 - 2 weeks late (induced)
DC3 - due tomorrow but will probably be 2 weeks late (induced)

LaWeasel · 08/06/2011 19:01

poor you PrisonerZero! Hope DC3 bucks the trend for you.

RitaMorgan · 08/06/2011 19:03

The average length of a first pregnancy for caucasian women is 40+8.

Some women naturally have 38 week pregnancies, some naturally have 43 week pregnancies though - the 40 week thing is a bit arbitrary!

m1nn1em0u5e · 08/06/2011 19:21

My first ds was 2 days over, my second ds was 5 days over, pregnant with baby number 3 now, who knows?!

hildathebuilder · 08/06/2011 19:23

Mine was 11 weeks early. It varies so much on the circumstances

msbuggywinkle · 08/06/2011 19:31

DD1 was 3 weeks early
DD2 was 4 days early

If this DC decides to continue the trend and go overdue I will be having a Christmas baby too!

blueeyedmonster · 08/06/2011 19:43

Ds was 11 days late.

diggingintheribs · 08/06/2011 19:56

DS 3 weeks early (was packing my hospital bag between contractions as I was convinced he would be late!)
DD 3 days late (was fed up as felt she had kept me waiting 3 weeks!!)

figgygal · 08/06/2011 20:32

I'm trying to plan my mat leave start date at moment and dont want to start too soon b4 baby due as want the time with baby afterwards but don't want yo leave it too late either in case I'm a massive heff who can barely waddle it's a proper balancIng act would have been nice to know exact day will pop.

emsyj · 08/06/2011 20:36

People drove me mad telling me this. I had a 'feeling' DD would be early. She was born at 37+1.

Rootatoot · 08/06/2011 20:43

Yep, this is what is making me nervous. Everyone DOES tell me that I will be late with my 1st baby due Aug 19 BUT you can't bank on it. MIL wants to come stay when I'll be 37 +2 and I am not comfortable with it. I don't want a house full esp as I'll be full term and could happen then. Confused

Leilababyno1 · 08/06/2011 20:46

I had my 1st DD a month ago and she was 2 weeks late- induced..

Thought I would be early or bang on due date as I had a big show and was already 2-3cm dilated at term- but guess that sometimes those symtoms don't mean much!

CBear6 · 08/06/2011 20:47

DS was bang on his due date after everyone telling me I'd go the full two weeks over because he wasn't even engaged (as it was he didn't engage until I was 6cm dilated)

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2011 20:48

A normal gestation is between 37 and 42 weeks. If you expect to have a baby some time in that period, then you'll probably find your expectations realised. Most hospitals intervene before you go overdue (42+ weeks) I think.

Try not to think of an EDD but of a period during which you're due.

RockStockandTwoOpenBottles · 08/06/2011 20:52

DD1 - Bang on time
DD2 - 5 days late
DS - 12 weeks early
DD3 - ELCS at 38+2

RantyMcRantpants · 08/06/2011 21:18

DC1=33 days early
DC2=9 days early
DC3=14 days early

TeacupTempest · 09/06/2011 10:47

ok so basically it could go either way! Think I shall just try my best to prepare for a December baby and take it from there.

I've been wondering about this too Teacup as mine is due 4th Sept, my birthday is 29th Aug. I don't much fancy being in hospital on my birthday! A friend is also due mid-December, she is also worried about her's being late and arriving at Christmas.

I was my parents first and was one week late, my sister was two weeks early. Seeing as I've managed to mirror my mothers pregnancy with me so far, totally unintentionally of course, I'm prepared for history to repeat itself... :)
