How much weight did you put on during pregnancy?

I just weighed myself and discovered that I am 83kg / 13 stone Shock I am 5'5 and must have put maybe 2 and a half stone on.

I am 37+ weeks.

How much of the weight is baby, water, placenta etc?

Is this a normal amount to put on, or to much?

I'm not sure what is normal, I'm 25 weeks and have put on 23lb, which I think is more than 'normal'. I'm eating well so trying not to worry too much in the hope that birth and bf will take care of it :)

virginiasmonalogue · 22/05/2011 15:10

nearly 4st Blush. All 3 times!!

BooBearBoo · 22/05/2011 15:11

5st. But I lost all of it (and more) in 5m :)

LadyOfTheManor · 22/05/2011 15:13

about 2 stone, a bit less. Lost it all in a few weeks from breastfeeding. I went from 10 stone to about 12 and was told I was MORBIDLY OBESE (according to my BMI which was 29-I'm 5"3) by one of the temp MWs who took my bloods. I kindly pointed out that she was about a size 24 and not pregnant and to jog on.

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/05/2011 15:13

25lb with dd. A little more with ds, the sickness was less severe with him Grin.

LadyOfTheManor · 22/05/2011 15:14

Your placenta is roughly the same as the baby's weight (according to my OBGYN from last time) plus water.

sharbie · 22/05/2011 15:15

i lost a stone first with ds due to sickness then ended up 2.5 stone heavier with dd i was really really sick and didn't put on anything.that was grim.

TeddyMcardle · 22/05/2011 15:20

2.5 stone, lost it through bf but am now putting it on again grr.

AllGoneABitBobLazar · 22/05/2011 15:34

About 3.5 stone I think. Lost 1.5 pretty much immediately (8.5lb baby, so must have had a lot of amniotic fluid!). The rest came off by 6 months. If you choose to breastfeed you'll probably find whatever weight you've gained drops off very, very easily (although doesn't work for everyone unfortunately).

mynameis · 22/05/2011 15:43

Just over 36 weeks with dc4 and have put on 13lb. Actually a bit concerned about it as this is the least Ive ever put on. Have had a few comments about bump size but midwife doesnt seem particularly worried.

SuburbanDream · 22/05/2011 15:48

about 3.5 stone both times, even though with DS1 I was eating super healthily, and with DS2 I saw gaining weight as a licence to eat cake Grin. And no, breastfeeding didn't make the pounds drop off effortlessly.

Fleecy · 22/05/2011 16:01

First time 3.5 stone, second time 2 stone but was still carrying 1.5 of them from the first time so ended up the same.

This time I'm 20wks and have so far gained 10lb.

Icelollycraving · 22/05/2011 17:18

I've put on about 5.5 kgs so far (I'm 34 wks). I have a high bmi anyway,am having a big baby. I think its because I haven't been drinking! The average according to mw is about 2 stone.

Blobby11 · 22/05/2011 17:26

I'm 26 weeks and have put on 16lb so far. I'm getting really fed up of people telling me my bump looks too small Angry
The midwife says I'm measuring fine.

coastgirl · 22/05/2011 17:37

Nearly 29 weeks and have put on 2 stone. Bump measures the right size and I'm still wearing pre-pregnancy jeans (not zipped up, but still!) Think most of it must be my new D-cup boobs!

jellyvodkas · 22/05/2011 17:40

about 2 stone with each of my 3 babies

Borisneedsahaircut · 22/05/2011 17:52

I put on 4 stone with DD Blush

SlightlyScrambled · 22/05/2011 17:58

I'm the same height and was also 83kgs (13stone) when I gave birth. At my 6 week check up I was 74kg (11.5 stone).

3.3kgs was baby, the hospital had guessed she'd be 4kgs. I've no idea how much everything else weighed. Not enough imo.

I put on 15kgs (2 and a bit stone) overall.

www.parentingweekly.com/pregnancy/popups/weightgain_chart.htm

just found this.

im 24 weeks and have put on about 20 pounds. was too fat to start with and hoping not to put on so much. start every week saying im going to eat less. i even joined slimming world just to keep the gain in check (try and have a month or two or staying the same ie safely losing a bit of body fat), but it was totally depressing; i dont know how a pregnant person can NOT EAT TOAST!

im focusing now on just eating good quality foods, carrying on swimming as long as i can, and if breastfeeding doesnt work i'll get a personal trainer!

pregnantmimi · 22/05/2011 18:31

i put a stone and a half on in 9 weeks lol!! But the way I see it going get big anyway so why not enjoy eating lotsxx

LadyOfTheManor · 22/05/2011 19:16

I'm 13 weeks now and haven't gained anything due to sickness. Living on melon and apples. Can't stomach butter so toast is out of the window.

sharbie · 22/05/2011 19:24

i lived on fruit pastilles and opal fruits lotm - have you tried them??

PrisonerZero · 22/05/2011 19:24

Thank you, I seem to be pretty normal then Smile

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I can't remember what I put on with the last 2, although I was pretty big before I got pregnant with them. I was at the very top end of normal BMI when I got pregnant this time after a 7 year gap.

I don't eat all that well to be honest, often skipping meals in favour of a bar of chocolate and a cup of tea (unless someone cooks me a roast in which case the lot is scoffed) I can't eat much as its so uncomfortable to feel full and I don't seem to have much of an appetite although eat when i'm hungry.

Some days I look very pregnant, some days I just look fat depending on what i'm wearing so my bump is smaller than with the others, baby is growing fine though so not to worried about that.

Thank you all.

I tried wine gums, but I've never been a sweetie person.

Did survive on Murray mints for about 3 days until they made me sick.

It's just all so crap. :(

wheresmytractor · 22/05/2011 19:45

I'm nearly 29 weeks and so far just over 2 stone! Did exactly the same with my first 2, and yes breastfeeding helps get it off, but funnily enough for me never the last half stone or so. Also I did Weight watchers the second time, it helped me gain control of my eating and made me feel better.Started WW in October, lost 21 pounds by christmas - I'm certainly going to do it again!
