Hi all

Have been for first scan today it turned out to be earlier than expected so need another one in a couple of weeks the sonographer gave us a free photo in the meantime but said further scan photos were £10 each

TEN POUNDS!!!!!!!

Obviously will pay it but almost fell off the exam bed at the cost just wondering how much others charge??

Am in bath wonder if it's a bath premium like a London weighting??

blimey, ours cost £5 for the whole pregnancy.... think i got about 6 pics with each of mine

MummyBerryJuice · 19/05/2011 20:53

£5/picture here

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 19/05/2011 20:55

I've had my 1st scan in this pg
And only got 1 scan in last pg I've never been charged for a scan pic
Might be because I've only had 1per pregnancy so far?
I'm in Scotland

wigglesrock · 19/05/2011 20:56

We were asked for a donation of £2.50 for a roll of about 6.

Borisneedsahaircut · 19/05/2011 20:59

Gosh £10!! I remember paying something in Manchester but didnt pay anything this time where I am in London! I think its really bad actually, Its a way of them making money again.

mrsmon · 19/05/2011 21:00

I have never been charged for any scan pic, just a donation which goes towards the hospital charity for children and you can donate anything! i find this quite shocking that they can get away with doing this in certain areas! probs best going for a 4d and gettin a dvd if you have to pay for them! im in glasgow.

davidtennantsmistress · 19/05/2011 21:01

god we have £4 for 2, but the lady had a bit of a soft spot for DP as he was in uniform so gave us 6 for our £4. :o

shame we didn't get her next time as i'd paid £8 and we got 3.

coastgirl · 19/05/2011 21:02

£10 for each photo? That's a bit steep, considering you do want them, obviously. Mine have been £5 per visit, and we got 4/5 photos for that.

rubyslippers · 19/05/2011 21:03

£6 for each - none free

And they were rubbish Grin

OppositeOfBlooming · 19/05/2011 21:03

£3 per picture but they're very lovely and I've always been given at least double the number of pictures I've asked for. And at my 20wk scan a few weeks ago, dd charmed the pants off the sonographer and got 2 more pics just for her.

iWILLdothis · 19/05/2011 21:04

I've never heard of having to pay for them, always got them for free and no one ever mentioned donation for them?!?! I'm in N.I.

munkiii · 19/05/2011 21:06

Paid nothing got 10 photos at 12 wk scan and around 18 at 20 wk scan, funny how it is so different around the country isn't it?

Congrats on your pregnancy OP!

wigglesrock · 19/05/2011 21:08

iWILLdothis - I'm in NI too, £1 donation for Mater and £2.50 for Lagan Valley Grin Wasn't asked as such but signs in waiting area requesting donation.

mrsmon · 19/05/2011 21:10

the donation part was never mentioned to me by any sonographer the only reason i know about it is because they have little posters on the waiting room walls. iv had 2 Elcs and had about 5 scans each time and never paid for any, with this pregnancy iv had 2 and been booked in for more think i will ask the sonographer why this happens in certain places.

sleepybump · 19/05/2011 21:11

Free - but in the other room after the scan (where we sorted out my growth chart) there was a dish asking for donations towards the pictures, which I left a pound in - I had no other money with me because the thought to bring any never crossed my mind! Now I'm thinking I was perhaps a little stingy compared to the charges you guys had, but I didn't have a clue how much they cost to produce!

CBear6 · 19/05/2011 21:13

£10!?

They're £3 at our hospital, you buy a token from a little machine and hand it to whoever is doing the scan. It's supposed to be 1 token = 1 picture in a wallet but they always give 3-4 different shots. I had extra scans with DS and at my 39 week one I didn't bother buying a token and they gave me a free picture anyway, then with this one I had bleeding at 9 weeks an they gave men's free picture after that scan too.

£10 though? I must be tight or something because I thought £3 was bad when the other hospital choices in the area only charge £2.

Rootatoot · 19/05/2011 21:15

They were training the sonographer at my 12 week scan so it was free that day but usually it's £5 and you get 3. This is what we paid at 20 week scan.

£10 seems very steep! :(

CBear6 · 19/05/2011 21:15

They gave me an extra free one at my 20 week scan when I mentioned how my mam was hoping for a granddaughter after two grandsons, they did me an extra picture and printed on it "hi Nana, I'm a baby girl" for me to give to her.

Paschaelina · 19/05/2011 21:15

In Ashford it was a voluntary donation. I got 2 pics on my first scan and she printed 6 different ones on the 20 week scan.

PrincessScrumpy · 19/05/2011 21:18

Ours are £6 for 4 but I'm expecting twins so for the same price she gave us a whole reel - about 10! To pay you have to go to the main hospital from the women's hospital and it's quite a walk. My first scan was at 4.30pm - the place to pay closes at 4pm so we got those free. However, I guess the money goes back to improving machines and keeping them up-to-date so can't be too annoyed.

MissCKitty · 19/05/2011 21:21

I'm in Liverpool and my first scan pics were free then it was £2 per scan. £10 seems a bit steep.

Cattleprod · 19/05/2011 21:23

£5 for 3, but they often throw in a couple of extras for free.

I didn't get charged for my early 5 week scan pic, or the one of the mmc, although understandably they did ask me if I wanted to keep that one.

lovemybabyboy · 19/05/2011 21:24

Mine was 3 pounds each or 2 for 5 pounds.

lolajane2009 · 19/05/2011 21:32

first one free here. then 5 pounds for 2 here.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 19/05/2011 21:36

£6 in a machine and we get given a card thing to hand to the sonographer. Each time. At my 12 week scan we paid the money and got 5 pics all the same Grr!

Am in Lincolnshire.
