Hi all

Have been for first scan today it turned out to be earlier than expected so need another one in a couple of weeks the sonographer gave us a free photo in the meantime but said further scan photos were £10 each

TEN POUNDS!!!!!!!

Obviously will pay it but almost fell off the exam bed at the cost just wondering how much others charge??

Am in bath wonder if it's a bath premium like a London weighting??

here it's £5 each. My first scan also turned out that we were only 9 weeks instead of the 12 weeks we thought we were... so felt I should 'buy' the pic as it was the first one... baby was just a blob.
At 12 week scan I felt to buy the pic again, as it was much more baby-ish...

Dunno what they will do at the 20-week scan...

figgygal · 19/05/2011 21:38

I must have been wrong right?

After parking cost £2.60 for half an hour it's an expensive business

£2 each or 3 for a fiver.

apricotears · 19/05/2011 21:57

I paid nothing for about 6 photos and they then put every scan photo on a disk for me aswell. But I am in Oz, so it's hardly comparable!

KatyCustard · 19/05/2011 22:04

£2.50 each here, and Wiggly Bean looks like Wurzle Gumage in one of them!

£10 is shocking, they have you backed in a corner don't they? They have cornered the market!

WiiUnfit · 19/05/2011 22:47

£5 here for an unspecified number of photos & no freebies, we have had 5 scans so far & each time have been given a different number of photos depending on the sonographer - from about 7 pictures from our first scan at 13w to 3 pictures at our growth scan at 28w!

£10 per photo is steep though! Shock

PinkFondantFancy · 20/05/2011 06:47

figgygal sadly I don't think you're wrong. Mine were £5 a photo and she would only give us one so one free then £10 each after would be consistent. It's a complete money-making exercise, just like having to pay to park. It's only thermal paper, I can't believe it costs anything like that to produce the photo.

Still, I figured that since my scan had gone well I was more than happy to pay for a picture of my little one Grin Steep though!

PenguinArmy · 20/05/2011 06:52

bloody, we got quite a few handed to us, no mention of cost and no signs asking for donations. That was in Nottingham.

I'm in the US for this pg, just had 20 week scan which included some 4D, a load of pics and a DVD (but they can charge the insurance company I guess)

Renaissance227 · 20/05/2011 09:53

£5 per picture here

MrsSawyer · 20/05/2011 10:01

Here, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, you get your first picture free and then £3 for every picture thereafter, fairly reasonable i think, but £10!!!! Jeez

MsChanandlerBong · 20/05/2011 10:19

We paid £5 per pic in Derbyshire... paid £15 for 3 at both the 12 and 20 week scans but the sonographer gave us a 'free' extra one each time as she wasn't happy that all 3 were completely clear which I though was nice.

Although I though it was a bit strange that we had to pay when I initially found out, the whole process is certainly a lot cheaper than if we didn't have a national health system!!

I do wonder where the money goes though...

Renaissance227 · 20/05/2011 10:31

Are you in Chesterfield MsChandlerBong?

MsChanandlerBong · 20/05/2011 10:41

That is my nearest hospital (about 20 mins away)!

KatieWatie · 20/05/2011 10:42

I'm in Wiltshire and got a roll of 5 at each scan, for just a discretionary donation (DH did it, no idea how much he put in).

Feel quite lucky now, £10 per photo is extortionate!

Eviepoo · 20/05/2011 21:56

Here in the Lothians - they just have a sign requesting donations. I was happy to donate, I think thats a nice thing to do, but to charge £10 I think that is a bit excessive.

CrazyAlien06 · 20/05/2011 21:59

i am taking part in a research study and got 17 scan photos from my 20 week scan today for free! :D

candr · 20/05/2011 22:00

We pay £5.00 for two but she gives us 3, have been told we will get free ones next time as need re scan due to problem - little consolation for all the worry!

stressheaderic · 20/05/2011 22:02

£3 here too - tokens in a machine job. Little cardboard frame to put it in. Spent many a moment just staring at it in awe in the days following 12 week scan

blueeyedmonster · 20/05/2011 22:06

It was £3 for 3 last time but I have heard that's now gone up to £5.

£10 per pic is steep I think.

EmmalinaC · 20/05/2011 22:25

Ours should have been £5 but the sonographer told DD was high risk for Down's so we could have them for nothing. It as if she thought they weren't worth anything Sad

DD is 2 now and healthy but it still makes me feel angry.

CollieandPup · 23/05/2011 16:39

wow £10 is steep. I paid £4.50 for 1, which was rubbish and came attached to a tacky piece of card with some wods like 'first scan momento' - how about bin the card and give me another picture. I was shocked and think its very ufair especially for low income families. I am even more shocked to hear how it varies across the country. I'm in greater manchester.

lktoday5 · 23/05/2011 19:34

hi figgy, take it you were at RUH? i was flabbergasted about the cost, especially when the photos werent that good compared to the private ones I had done, plus the sonographer was bloody grumpy about the fact that DC was asleep ....grr....(insert not impressed with RUH emoticon)

LDNmummy · 23/05/2011 19:46

At the Homerton in London I was charged 4 pounds at first scan for four pics and four pounds again today for two pics at last scan.

figgygal · 23/05/2011 20:12

Yup the ruh thinking might get a private scan at Cirencester for gender scan and see what quality pics I get for my money
