Chavvy prams?

Hiya ... don't mean to upset anyone, but I'm going shopping for a pram soon and wondered if there are any brands out there that are considered 'chavvy' as I'd rather not buy one of those ...

pmsl at 'big fat gypsy pram' know exactly what you mean and those bonnets with yards of swansdown on them are popular down by 'ere too. not forgetting the plastic pearls. yick.

frantic51 - imo those are only lcassy in either burgundy or navy - any pastel colours and you look like a fool. plus how do people get around with those?

katiewaite - yes that is true though maclaren is very neautral and uniform and not out ime. not my taste but v good buggies. i didnt fancy anything by graco as they are massive, had that absurd double hood arrangement and only seem to come in grey. plus they are unnecessary - the travel system, the baby shouldn't ne in the car seat unless you are in the car - bad for their backs.

lol at big fat gypsy pram and the juicy couture - WTF? ;)))))

I can't believe that Emmaljungas are considered chavvy ;) hahahaha so far it was my top choice (though was thinking more plain navy rather than leatherette - initially looked nice on website but too "fake" in the shop), I have only read very good reviews of these prams :)

hester · 18/05/2011 22:45

I think it's beyond naff to choose a buggy as a fashion statement. But also vulgar to care about other people's buggy choices.

They all end up looking shite anyway, don't they? Covered with toast crumbs, old raisins, and several bags of shopping? Or is that just mine?

Bogeyface · 18/05/2011 22:55

I think Bugaboos are massively chavvy, but thats because the 2 women I know who have them only bought them because they are the pram to have! That and Harry Enfields "clean chavs" had a Bugaboo when they were pregnant and it was so funny that she was insisting on only having a Bugaboo so people knew that they werent poor :o

But then my judgement may be skewed as I have a vintage Silver Cross in British Racing Green, but sadly I dont have a matching Norland Nanny to push it :o

No flouncy bedding, heaven forbid!
Cellular blankets and a couple that I crocheted myself, v 70's retro :o

Bogeyface · 18/05/2011 23:01

Oh and candy striped sheets cut down from a 40 year old flannelette bed sheet that I sewed myself. I suspect the silver cross chavs would look down on me in your area Locket :o

Thornykate · 19/05/2011 00:28

I'm sure if the MN police vetted me I would be barred from here for life Grin

I hold my hands up & plead guilty to having chavvy pram, chavvy car, matchy-matchy baby outfits for newborns & also wearing make up around the house... & I love every bloody minute of it all Grin

Whatever you buy someone will think it is ugly/ naff/ waste of money/ OP so pick what you like.

Motherhood opens the floodgates for people to critisize so it's best to stop caring before you start IYKWIM ;)

happy shopping!

Bogeyface · 19/05/2011 00:29

Thorny, I need to know what car and pram you have now! :o

Thornykate · 19/05/2011 00:31

will pm you for fear of outing myself further & being burned at stake in a chav hunt Grin

Bogeyface · 19/05/2011 00:33

Well I think you should be out and proud, but as you wish! :o

Thornykate · 19/05/2011 00:39

Nooo. After you have read my confession you will understand why.

I could never again post on AIBU or anything slightly serious if my RL chaviness become common knowledge.

Bogeyface · 19/05/2011 00:45

Don't know about the crazy ribbons and lace options but loving the idea of 'customising' the stroller for holidays ect
Accessorize style with funky buttons and stuff Grin

Seriously, if anyone is looking for a pram they could do worse than look at the review section on here. I have just got the Mothercare Xtreme. Yes, Mothercare, people! Now I'm out and proud!

Which? also review baby stuff but you have to pay a pound to sign up Shock.

Cattleprod · 19/05/2011 09:47

All this talk of retro Silver Crosses has reminded me of when I was looking for a pram for DS. The shop I went to had a lovely looking Silver Cross and they suggested I try it out, handing me a toy baby to give a better idea of performance.
The first thing I did was try and take the pram up a flight of steps inside the shop, as we have steps up to our front door and I wanted to make sure the pram was suitable. The toy baby slid out of the front of the pram, flew across the room and landed with a thud on its head. Grin

I bought something else instead!

sweetkitty · 19/05/2011 12:15

I think the Emmaljunga Leatherette with frills, bows, lace and feathers must get traded in for a very cheap looking buggy, in bright pink or blue, the ones without the hood and must have a huge toddler sitting in them with sausage roll in the packet, on the school run of course. I'm not judging just observing, theres an awful lot round here.

Beesok · 19/05/2011 16:42

I don't want the leatherette - admittedly my friend has the cream one (but she lives in Belgium and is certainly not a chav :) and she swears by the quality and comfort (for baby) of the emmaljungas - I liked the dark grey one or the navy blue one ;(
Now you are putting me off :)

So are Tuetonias and Mutsy chavvy too? :)

Beesok · 19/05/2011 16:44

I don't think bugaboos are chavvy and I sort of like the way they look but I keep hearing bad reviews :(

To be honest I was more concerned in choosing a buggy that met the needs of my baby hahaha didn't really think too much about the "look"! :)

Pictish · 19/05/2011 16:49

I have the Argos basic buggy which sells at £19.99. It is the sturdiest, lightest, most simple to fold up (and it folds teeny tiny) buggy I have ever owned, and with 3 kids I've been through a few, including Tuetonia and McLaren.

All hail the Argos!
