Hi... so just been confirmed I'm due 10th (ish) of January and would love to get chatting to some others in the same area who are also expecting... As I said In the title that includes those of you due late 2011, as well - it's a very inclusive thread - as long as you'd be able to make some meet ups in Oxfordshire and you're going through some stage of reproduction then you'd be welcome :-)

I know there's at least one more of you out there (ghost - you there?)

Stats time:

MakesCakesWhenStressed - expecting #1 EDD 10 Jan 2012

I understand and feel the same way! The thing is, it's all new to us and we don't know what's normal. Fine, we see a lot of posts about spotting on MN that turn out to be not a problem, but if you didn't read MN, you'd never know, and would probably go straight to the MW, right? In fairness my MW said if there was any bleeding to call straight away or go to the hospital to get checked out if necessary. (I should confess that I had a small amount of post-coital spotting at about 6 weeks and did nothing about it when it had stopped completely after a few hours).

Yes, '16' week appointment on Friday, very excited! And my next scan is in two weeks, which will be 18+6 I think.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/08/2011 10:24

my next scan isn't till 25th Aug :-( Ages away!

Rang them and she said to just keep an eye out and if there's any more to call the delivery suite at the JR. Just wish I wasn't feeling so wobbly today :-)

That's good news! Hope all continues to be ok. I have just called NHS direct myself as have a yucky infected insect bite on my ankle which has made my foot swell up and go all hot and gross. Have to see the GP in case I need antibiotics, though apparently if I wasn't pg they would just tell me to get some antihistamine.

That is ages to wait (though only a week after my scan and mine is a bit early really). If it's any consolation I'll be all envious of you when it's your turn Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/08/2011 11:44

lol - DH has been leant (is that spelt right, it looks all wrong...) a gucci video camera by a friend of his who runs a film company so he can film the scan. I think I am going to be breaking out the full-on slap, inc. falsh eyelashes, for that one. Am gonna be getting some funny looks in the hospital, but I refuse to be immortalised in moving image without lots of makeup!

Have you tried hot compresses on your bite to draw out the mank? Dip a flannel or some cotton wool in just boiled water with salt in and hold against the bite for as long as you can bear. I have bad reactions to mosquitoes and have had several of these sort of infected bites, the hot compress seems to help speed things up. Good luck with it.

PS - let me know what happens at your MW appt on Friday. I'm not sure what this one is about! :-)

ghosteditor · 03/08/2011 12:50

'Leant'? I think it's the acceptable strong form of the past tense but I would definitely say 'loaned'. I'm from Yorkshire where we use a lot of strong past tense forms (not always legitimately) but I now almost always write the weak past tense form if I can get away with it. I'm a bit sketchy on all of this as it's been a long time since studied it properly but I think I'm on the right track.

Gosh I'm hoping to avoid the camera at all times! Make sure you have waterproof mascara in case of overwhelming emotion Grin

Thanks for the tip - might try that, but have caved and am going to see GP as swelling is gradually getting worse and it's painful and hot. Am sure I'm just being a wuss.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/08/2011 12:52

I don't think you're being a wuss - infection in pregnancy can be a real issue, so probably better safe than sorry :-)

I am powering through the Lindt Lindors atm. Bliss. I'm having the pregnant version of PMT today i think!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 03/08/2011 15:24

if I wasn't so hot I could kill for a lindor!

I did see the GP in the end and she deemed the Foot of Doom yucky enough to require antibiotics, especially as I have a bit of a temperature too. So not too much of a wuss after all Grin. It's pretty ugly though.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/08/2011 15:27

Good girl! Glad you got taken seriously :-)

Lent? maybe? I now have two ebay bids on winter coats, but I have the day off today so might try and get into Headington and check out the charity shops. I think I should do that anyway, a colleague who is in the know described me as "a bit bumpy" yesterday - I was wearing a summer dress as trousers are so tight!

You guys seem well ahead of me, still haven't had my first scan yet!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/08/2011 13:21

How far along are you Sara? About 13 weeks is it?

OP posts:
Rollersara · 04/08/2011 14:14

I think it's 11+6...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/08/2011 16:02

Well it won't be long till your scan now, will it? :)

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 04/08/2011 18:22

17 weeks today for cakes and me, I think!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/08/2011 19:08

Yup! Baby weighs 100g and is about 11cm long, apparently :-)

Hello, just marking my place for when I get back off holiday so I don't lose this thread again! :)

Moobee · 05/08/2011 10:18

P.S cafe coco next to the train station is very nice (great pizza) and can accommodate large groups for meetups. I used that as a meeting place for my hen night. The station is also where buses arrive from Abingdon and quite a central location so probably quite handy. Something like www.meetomatic.com is good for finding when people have free dates. :)

Moobee · 05/08/2011 10:20

P.P.S am in Didcot and due on 8th Jan next year with my first child. I'm 34. Thanks to makecakes for the reminder about this thread!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 05/08/2011 10:57

Hello Moobee :-)

Ideally we'd be able to find somewhere for a meet up where there was (reasonably priced) parking, too, as I have to drive anywhere just to get to public transport, so may as well drive the whole way, really, but will deffo check out this place and see. Thanks for the suggestion.

My DH works in Didcot and I do my supermarket shop there every week - maybe we could meet up for a coffee sometime since I'm there anyway?

Welcome (back) to the thread - I hope we manage to get a meet up organised - maybe once the summer is over and everyone is back off their hols? Dh and I are off to Stockholm for our last 'just us' holiday in early September, so maybe after that?

Cakes

PS- Moobee, would you be interested in a mums-and-dads-to-be group in Wallingford or is that too far from you? Can PM you the details of the one I'm going to if you are keen...

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 05/08/2011 11:06

I'm keen. If we're going to do Oxford then I thoroughly recommend the Park and Ride, as it's only £2.40 return into town, I think. Then there are loads of places to go - maybe we could meet in the covered market or something.

I could do a trip to Didcot at some stage but probably not during the day as I'll be at work I'm afraid. I used to work very near to Didcot but haven't done so for four years or so Grin

Rollersara · 05/08/2011 11:38

I work near Didcot so could do either there or Oxford, but I can't walk very far so need to be close to parking!

cakes I'm doing the NCT classes in Wallingford, all the Oxford ones are right on the other side of Oxford. Keep meaning to go over there to check it out, have never actually been to Wallingford!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 05/08/2011 11:43

Sara - you'll love it - Wallingford is such a great town. There's also a huge amount of mum and baby stuff going on throughout the week.

I might have to bite the bullet and do the park and ride thing to Oxford, but if anyone wants to do a supplementary Didcot meeting give me a shout :-)

Did we decide on Saturday for a meet up? Would the 17th September suit people? If we can get a date that would be a really good start!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 05/08/2011 12:20

I'm afraid Sept 17th is no good for me as I have a work event to go to (perks of publishing -free books and quiet summers. disadvantages: book launches and author events at random and inconvenient times)

Don't let that stop you if it's good for everyone else though!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 05/08/2011 12:21

Well I can do weekdays and Sundays, too. In fact Sundays suit me better because DH disappears off. I can fit in with other people so... anyone want to make a suggestion...?

OP posts:
Rollersara · 05/08/2011 14:45

I can only do weekdays after 5, otherwise weekends are better!

cakes, if we met near the station you could get the train from Didcot? Or we could go for a pub lunch pretty much anywhere... I can give Oxford peeps a lift if that helps.
