is anyone else feeling a little left out by the first-timers due in December thread? This will be my second DC (DS will be 3.5). I think I'm due on 15th December.

OP posts:

aethelfleda · 29/06/2011 11:43

Hi pants, does the name change mean you're less harrassed? Hope so!

I'm sad to say the nasty heatwave brought my puking right on back- booo! Though now it's rained I am a bit better, and hit the magic 14 week button which is when I got better with the DD's; after about week 16 I only puke of I'm overtired or overheated or skip a meal. Then it comes back at the end...

Oh no for the SpD or achey whatever, goodnight, hope it doesnt get too bad, if it does feel worse it's worth ringing your GP or midwife and asking for an early physio review- if it is SPd they can get you a support belt and give helpful advice on managing it (and mobility aids if youi need them, though I hope you won't!).

And hi needs- the kick every day thing is usuallly only used after 20 weeks when "movements are well established" ie you've beem feeling them every day. At this mo baby has a big swimming pool and is doing lengths, you only feel it when they push off the edge!

goodnightmoon · 29/06/2011 17:00

hi and welcome needs. definitely don't worry about kicks, baby has probably just spread out into a different area of your womb, still plenty of space to swim around as aethelfleda says! i've felt nothing yet and i'm either 14w4d by my dates or 15w3d by scan redating.

aethel - sorry you are puking again but hopefully over for good soon. funny i've been pg 5 times and never once puked, i can't really imagine what it's like to be sick that way. i still just want to eat all the time!

i saw an osteopath today about my pain, i'm not sure she's going to represent any sort of miracle cure but even her gentle rubbing of my hips made things feel better. She thinks it's mainly to do with my chronic sciatica - oh the joys of a wonky spine and hips.

sadly looks like i won't be breaking out my running shoes in this pregnancy again - last time ran until 30 weeks but now i'm hobbling for the bus at 15 weeks - yikes! i think i might try to see an NHS physio too, to get some exercises, support belt, etc. Plus my osteo was supposedly an expert on pregnancy conditions but i felt like i was telling her more than she told me.

for the moment i've decided not to go to the egu. i have no reason to think anything is wrong with baby just because my joints hurt.

purpleflower123 · 30/06/2011 10:38

Hi all

I think I've felt a few wriggles and kicks, you'd think by my 3rd pregnancy I'd know for definite Hmm

Sorry to hear about the pain in your hips goodnightmoon, my lower back has started to hurt a little. It did with DS and wasn't so bad with DD.

Is anyone else finding out the sex of the baby? We have to go private to find out here, I'm trying to work out when's best. I can find out at 17 weeks and pay £85 or wait till 22 weeks and go to the next town and pay £55! DS and DD were both a surprise but DH would like to find out this time, especially as I'm due so near to christmas, we can be completely prepared. We also like to pick bits up at the bootsale and obv that won't be on in December.

Had my 16 week appt today (a couple of days early) everything went well and we got to hear the nice strong heartbeat :)

Luckily I haven't been sick at all, just exhausted which hasn't seemed to pass yet, hopefully it will soon.

:)

goodnightmoon · 30/06/2011 11:01

Hi Purple, I definitely want to find out gender - i can find out at my 20-week NHS scan on Aug. 2 so will wait for that, though i wish it was a few days earlier because it's literally the day after we expect to move house and i wouldn't lug around all these little-boy clothes if there was no need! i got rid of most of my first-year stuff, during a phase of thinking i'd never have another, so will have to go through all that buying/borrowing again no matter what.

glad your 16 week scan went well.

on my hip front, i'm feeling quite good today and thinking maybe my osteo is a miracle worker! (praying)

aethelfleda · 02/07/2011 22:02

Hiya girls.
We want to find out- I like to know! Don't care which gender as long as baby healthy, but would lile to know which colours to collect! We are allowed to ask at the 20-22 week scan.

Nads320 · 04/07/2011 19:37

Hya Ladies
Am a late addition to this thread too.
Having my 2nd baby ( already have 4yr old son) due on the 19th December which is also my birthday !!
1st baby was CS not sure whats gonna happen this time around but have appointment with VBAC clinic
Seen my midwife once , had 1st scan three weeks ago not seeing midwife again till 18th July when hopefully I'll hear the heartbeat, quite anxious this time around slightly older and dont feel as healthy, just seems so long in between appointments. Morning sickess has subsided .. thank god just fighting with constant fatigue.
Think I too will ask gender our hospital are ok with telling.
Lastly am about to embark on an antenatal instructor course with Lazy Daisy so will be teachinig classes with a bump which will be fun.

IssyStark · 04/07/2011 22:26

Hi all!

Late joiner to the thread. I'm 17w now and due on 11 Dec but as the garklet (now 4.5yo) was 16 days late, I'm expecting to go late.

Just being to feel butterflies in the past few days which is a couple of weeks earlier than with the garklet - I've got an anterior placenta again so don't expect to feel that much compared to the norm.

I'm hoping to have a vbac at the Princess Anne, Southampton (yep, the OBEM place). They know me pretty well there as this is my 10th pregnancy and I've been in and out of day gynae, Recurrant Miscarriage Clinic, Early Pregnancy Unit, Fetal Medicine so I know the place pretty well in turn!

In answer to purple's gender question, we're not going to find out. We didn't with the garklet and we'd like this one to be a surprise as well. The garklet however is holding out for a sister (he has grudgingly accepted a brother would be okay, just about!)

goodnightmoon · 05/07/2011 09:45

welcome Nads and Issy. Nads, I suspect my baby could come on my birthday too - the 10th - which is also my grandmother's birthday. I am leaning toward an elective c section if i can convince the consultant so we'll see. I also feel a lot older this time around, well I was old the first time around too, but am really worried about the toll on my body.

Issy - know what you mean about being known by half the hospital - I feel I should have a special chair in the emergency gynae unit. But 10 pregnancies - wow, you must be thrilled to be so far along. I've had five and have one son (aged 3).

aethelfleda · 07/07/2011 10:33

Hi Nads and Issy.

Does anyone else get that thing where bump is quite petite at the start of the day and by evening you feel huuuuuuge?

I am definitely not a skinny minnie to start with but I feel enormous by the evening!

goodnightmoon · 07/07/2011 14:23

hi aethelfleda, yes i definitely get that - some days last week i felt the bump had practically disappeared but it always "returned" by evening. This week it's getting pretty solid but even moreso at night! I'm feeling enormous all the time though. This is that awful stage (for me at least) where I just look really chunky. I'm growing out of a lot of clothes too and I really don't want to get into maternity until after 20 weeks and after I've told work (around then).

Trishay38 · 07/07/2011 21:10

Hi all,
Another late joiner..due on 31st Dec , 14 weeks so far, but hoping to go earlier than that. I am an old timer and have ds 21,ds 4 and ds 3. Was in denial for a while and then in shock after my 12 week scan as we are having a two for one christmas present. Scary to think about being a mother of twins and 5 in total, but am getting quite excited and hopefully have maximized my chances of altering the gender balance in our house.
On the plus side babies seem well and are low risk despite my age..42 looming! it's the first time i have ever seen a doctor in any pregnancy/birth etc..feel like a vip.

goodnightmoon · 18/07/2011 09:40

hello everyone, our thread was getting lost so I'm hopefully bumping it up and we can get some more activity here! How is everyone doing? I imagine there have been lots of 16 week checks and even some 20 week scans lately?

I saw a consultant last week to talk about method of birth and my risks in general. It sounds like an elective c-section may be possible but we aren't making any decisions until i see her again at 32 weeks. I really don't know what's best. I already have so much pressure on my pelvic floor I can't imagine how I'm going to feel toward the end. I just don't want to have surgery on the inside of my lady bits again when everything is working properly now.

anyway, i heard the baby's heartbeat and that was very reassuring. particularly since my bump goes from hard to soft from huge to flat from one day to the next! it's getting harder and harder to hide though so this may be the week I tell work.

Two more weeks and i'll have my 20 week scan and find out the sex. I can't wait!!!

kiteflying · 18/07/2011 10:10

Hi, I lost this thread, and cannot remember whether I had joined or was lurking last time? I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday. Just had my bloods taken for the quad test today and trying to quell nerves about Wed. Seems like a big deal even though I just saw him or her five weeks ago and everything was the right size and shape then.
Anyone else on this thread over 40 and an IVF graduate?
I am so much more sleepy this time around, and think it must be down to age and having been not in top fitness for the whole-year-plus-then-some that I was trying to get pregnant.

WAS hoping to get fit this trimester but SPD has slowed me right down again.
Hope everyone is feeling hearty and looking forward to getting bigger and bigger!

goodnightmoon · 18/07/2011 10:22

hi kiteflying - well i am 41 now, possibly 42 at gestation (baby due a week after my birthday) and had IVF three times, though my son and this baby were natural conceptions.
i too was looking forward to a very fit second trimester after taking it easy in the first trimester in fear of miscarriage (previously have had 3). Unfortunately a spot of SPD kicked in right after my first prenatal yoga class at week 14! I went jogging last week and that also set it off (well, i knew it would), so i'm now just trying to walk more than usual, or at least not less than usual! SPD has been pretty erratic so far, mainly just uncomfortable whilst in bed and trying to roll over with knees together and all that. I'm seeing an osteo.

good luck for your 20 week scan. i made it through the combined test with a low Downs risk but I'm still worried about what my 20 week scan might reveal. (must wait until Aug. 2 to find out!)

kiteflying · 18/07/2011 15:09

Hi and thanks goodnightmoon. I also had a reassuring combined test - went from 1 in 32 risk to 1 in 587. Was pretty pleased with that although I remember being 1 in 1076 only four years ago and thinking that was a slim margin! Sorry to hear you have been through three MC's.
SPD hit in week 14-15 for me too, and I had literally spent my whole first trimester doing sweet nothing. So I am very bitter about the SPD - it seems to improve by doing very little, as long as I don't actually sit still for more than half an hour. It did not get me until very late in my first pregnancy.

I have an appt with an ante-natal physio later this week, but really I am just hoping for hints as to how to get fit despite SPD, as I am managing the pain/disability OK at the moment. Hourly pelvic floor exercises are part of my daily routine!
I am having a natural birth - I found water was the best thing in my first birth, so I would hate to rule that out. Are you going for the ELCS because of the SPD or for other reasons? I would probably be more afraid of the recovery time with a C-section, but that's probably because I have not had one before.
My belly does that soft and flat thing too! lReally disconcerting waking up with a flat tummy.
I am so much more dependent on other people telling me that bubs is OK this time around - the reassurance of hearing his/her heartbeat is overwhelming every time.
I see Trishay38 - you are also in the 40 plus club. Are you finding it more tiring this time? How lovely to be expecting twins for Christmas. You had better make your pudding now I think.
I went back to bed after getting my DD's breakfast this morning. I was so ashamed when she woke me at eleven am to ask when I would be able to play with her.

goodnightmoon · 20/07/2011 11:46

hi kiteflying, i am not sure how i will give birth but wanted to at least explore the idea of elective c-section after a pretty terrible labour and birth last time, where my son was in distress much of the time and i was whisked in and out of theatre a couple of times before finally failing at a final round of pushing and went back to theatre for several failed ventouse attempts and then finally forceps and an episiotomy (feeling absolutely none of it). I then had to have surgery on some internal scar tissue six months later because sex was impossible.
add in the SPD, my age, and general fear of dying in childbirth, and well ... it seems like an option.
Not an easy option, mind, since there are obviously risks and other factors around recovery I have to consider.
i hope you get some relief from seeing the physio. I had such painful SPD at week 14 and one trip (and then a follow-up) to an osteo made a massive difference. it's still flaring up from time to time but i'm due another appointment tomorrow so look forward to that.
finally, hope your 20 week scan goes well today!
any reports from anyone else? there were loads of people on this thread - where have you all gone? :)

LaWeasel · 20/07/2011 12:04

Hi everyone - I found you again!

Somehow this dropped off the threads I'm on...

Anyway, everything is going fine, 17 wks now, a few little kicks. So so massively grateful I am not still feeling awful and being sick like I was with DD.

DD however, is driving me mad. She is really full on into terrible 2's, running off, doing whatever you tell her not too - plus being tired I can't wait for her to start pre-school in september. I do love her to bits, she's gorgeous - but I wish she'd done all this when I wasn't PG and had more energy to be consistent!

needsanswers · 20/07/2011 22:25

hi all! had my 19week scan yesterday!! after the high NH i was sooo scared going into that scan, it was an hour long so they could focus on the heart!
When the lady doing the scan told me everyhting was fine i burst into tears lol felt like such a dick afterwards lol i feel like i can finaly start to enjoy being pregnant, instead of worrying about the 'what ifs' we were able to find out the sex to im so happy to say we are having a wee boy! i would of been happy with either as long as it was healthy of corse! he is such a wee wriggler to i only feel a few kicks during the day but as soon as i lay down in bed at night he has a play lol! partner and daughter have felt the kicks to which was so exciting!!!
LaWeasel i know exactly how you feel except mines 3, i was so lucky she never went through terribles twos, i though i just had a very well behaved wee girl, but now shes 3 oh my god!! she is hard work! i hope i look good bald because i may just start pullling my hair out soon arg!

goodnightmoon · 21/07/2011 08:20

needs - hi and congrats on your scan and your little boy! I totally know that feeling of relief!! I am in the same boat with number one - my son turns 3 in a week and my god it's like he's turned into a terror overnight. We are getting ready to move house in 10 days so I wonder if part of it is him picking up on our stress? otherwise he is well and truly a "terrible three"!

Laweasel - welcome back to the thread and glad you are well too. i also feel very reassured by daily kicks now. it means i don't worry too much about my magically shrinking and expanding bump!

LaWeasel · 21/07/2011 11:58

Congratulations on your little boy and the clear scan - needs, you must be very relieved!

I think somebody needs to have words with all our impetuous DC...

aethelfleda · 21/07/2011 23:12

Hiya girls, I'm still here... Got to wait 3 long weeks til my 20 week scan , but things seem to be going quickly this time as we're busy with things non-baby. My DDs are at school and nursery school (same one) so its been a mad end-of-term week with parties and activities galore. Roll on next week where we get to chill out a bit (though I still work part time and DH has a week long trip abroad, arg!). At least the rain has brought us a killer crop of french beans!

sevendwarves · 22/07/2011 12:37

Hi ladies, please accept my apologies for starting this thread then buggaring off, I'm back now though.

I had my first consultant appointment yesterday, I've been put on a low dose of aspirin to reduce my chances of repeat pre-eclampsia, and I also get to have extra scans at 28 and 36 weeks. She also said there's a good chance I'll have the baby early as I did with DS.

Less than 2 weeks until my 20 week scan, we're finding out the sex but I already think its a girl.

OP posts:
harassedandherbug · 22/07/2011 15:05

There you all are!!

seven I'm also on aspirin due to rmc, it's made my tummy bloated but you can't tell now I'm so huge. Sounds like you're being well looked after, and that's the main thing.

aethelfleda yes we're also mid end of term flurry. Dh is actually at dd's assembly now, as I'm so busy mning at work.

Laweasel I can't manage if something falls off my TIO!

needs brilliant news and congratulations!

I'm 40 and will be 41 when this one arrives. Sounds old in my head but I don't generally feel it! My boys make me feel old, and the fact that I'm a nanny Grin.

Nothing much happening here. 18 weeks now and a touch of spd, bp a bit high so back to mw at 25 wks instead of 28 (had this with dd and was fine) and I now have no immunity to Rubella! That freaked me out, but I did a post yesterday and feel reassured. I have a wriggler that's for certain, lots of movements here, and when mw was trying to get the hb I can feel bug moving away. Took her ages! I have a doppler at home which I'm finding very reassuring after the mc's.

goodnightmoon · 24/07/2011 20:35

welcome back sevendwarves! I am also on baby aspirin, as an early miscarriage precaution and like last time will just carry on taking it now until 36 weeks or so. harassed- i didn't realise it is meant to bloat you - does that explain my crazy tum that goes out and in? (now mostly out.) sorry about your rubella issue - i didn't know you could lose your immunity?
seven - like you i will find out soon and i also think i'm having a girl.

ok, just need to rant for a minute - i hate to obssess about weight but I am feeling really massive. I've gained about 6 kilos, or a stone, mainly in the first 12 weeks. I read yesterday that I'm running about 1.6 kilos or 4 lbs ahead of schedule and that I should have only put on 1.6 kilos in the entire first trimester. yeah right.

last time i had the same weight gain pattern but i actually controlled my diet to guard against gestational diabetes in the second and third trimesters and came out only up by about 2 stone in the end. This time I am still eating all sorts of junk, not helped by my son's 3rd birthday party yesterday!

urgh, i am just at that awkward phase of bursting out of all my clothes but not in maternity yet. I have resolved to tell my boss tomorrow I'm pg, solely so I can break out the maternity gear and flaunt my bump!

it's not just about appearance though - i really think my body can't cope well with extra weight - beyond the SPD it gives me plantars fascitis in my heels (uncomfortable soreness thing that hurts to walk and stand), and I've got the most insane varicose veins putting horrible pressure on my old episitomy scar and the rest of my lady bits. (before running down my legs in ropy glory)

I keep complaining to DH, who just doesn't get why i don't feel like a sexed-up mama.

wish i could just go into a time warp for the next 22 weeks...i'm scared!

sevendwarves · 26/07/2011 22:43

goodnight I hope telling your boss went well, I've only put on 4lbs but have been in maternity jeans for weeks!

I've had a horrible stomach bug for the last couple of days and have barely eaten much since Sunday night. My nice round bump has definitely gone :( I think I'll ring the mw if I'm no better tomorrow and see if she can offer any advice.
