Do you feel attractive when pregnant?

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and enjoying lots of it - the feelings of movement, how it has made me and my partner even closer, using the pregnancy card to get massages etc (mwaa haa!) but I just feel really unattractive and fat!! I haven't gained a ridiculous amount of weight - just the amount I should have by this stage, but before getting pregnant I would get dressed up and go out to bars most weekends etc and feel quite attractive, now I just seem to spend my life in "comfy" clothes.

What happened to me feeling really sexy and glowing?!? Grr. How have you all felt in terms of attractiveness?

Only 11 weeks but have never felt so unattractive I look constantly wiped out, my hair is greasy, I feel too ill for make-up or blow drying hair, I'm sweaty and the last few days spots have become friends with my face :( I am definitely hoping it will get better?!

nannyl · 29/04/2011 22:49

my first 14 or so weeks were horrendous

had HG, and barely got out of bed. Felt really poorly, and i must have looked awful too. by 6+6 i was told by people that i looked awful, and at 7 weeks was signed off. there were times when i could hardly stand up, and i spent half my life hanging over the toilet bowl... took OH several weeks to realise i didnt want him to watch me vomit Hmm

But then i very very slowly got a bit better. I am often not sick 2, sometimes even 3 days in a row Smile (I am now nearly 21 weeks)
OH has told me i look so much better (ie must have looked crap!) and my bump is now very bumpy, Smile. Until a few weeks ago i tried to hide my bump, but now i like it and am starting to feel much better about myself. Also its now not possible to hide so might as well show it off Grin

Several of my friends really "blew up" while pg, getting 'fat' faces / arms / neck etc etc, but so far i only have a bump and the rest of me is still the same. Hoping it continues this way Smile

munkeychops · 29/04/2011 22:55

Oh god nannyl, that sounds awful! Glad you are feeling better now - certainly puts my gripe into perspective!!

H007 - I did feel worse earlier on to be fair, so hopefully it will get better for you. I found that I felt and looked crap in the first trimester, and the the second one was much better, but now that I am seven months I am startnig to get pretty big and feel uncomfortable again!!

No I do not - I feel fed up when I see lovely clothes I can't fit into. Generally don't enjoy pregnancy at all! It's much nicer when the baby comes out.

LisamumtoJake · 29/04/2011 23:05

I felt like a camel, i can clearly see why they always are so grumpy carrying that big hump and spit at folk, cause could i have got away with it i would have spat at people too! Hmm

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 29/04/2011 23:08

no, i hated it, and i had really low amniotic fluid so my bump was tiny. just felt like a huge, unelegant whale, with leaky boobs, and a tendancy to burst into tears, which is pretty horrendous in itself!

lolajane2009 · 29/04/2011 23:12

I lost a lot of weight(& stone) just before I got pregnant and I am a bit upset that I am now back in my fat clothes even though I have only gained 11 lbs. I feel really self conscious but my husband loves my bigger body as he prefers me larger. The only good thing is that there is a baby inside me that I love so i suppose I can deal with this in short term

CrazyAlien06 · 29/04/2011 23:55

I Don't feel attractive at all. Feel fat and only 17 wks and not really got a bump. Can't wait to have my body back ! I have a wedding reception to go to tomorrow and really can't face it:( I would at least feel a little better if I had a bump so could get an outfit that shows it off rather than looking fat

MrsVidic · 30/04/2011 07:08

I miss my abs! I am a regular gym member and am usually very toned. The first thing I noticed was the lack of muscle tone!
For some reason in preg I tend to swell a dress size everywhere and my bump s huge! Yet I have done this before so must remember the fluid goes very quickly after the birth!
Still feel like a hog. Dp though tells me I look fab and is a fan of the 2 footballs on my chest!

HRHJoyceOfBarnaby · 30/04/2011 07:35

First time round, I felt fabulous. Second time round, I'm two stone heavier, have varicose veins, a double chin, extra wrinkles and manky hair. I look like a troll.

Although I am obviously looking forward to meeting my baby - and that will be wonderful - I also now know from bitter experience that I will look like a fat, saggy, old blob for months afterwards, too - without the pregnant excuse. Great. Can't wait.

MovingGal · 30/04/2011 07:39

I am normally often nauseous when not pregnant so thought I would get morning sickness for sure but it hardly happened at all. After the incredible tiredness of the first trimester I looked and felt much better.

It's funny how I am normally a bit overweight and don't feel that attractive but when I was pg it was like there was a reason for it you know? I felt strong and healthy and sort of powerful and glowy. I probably didn't really look it but its all in how you feel about how you look imo.

davidtennantsmistress · 30/04/2011 08:02

with DS I felt hideous, mostly as we couldn't really afford maternity wear so I made do & had a lot of XH's clothes on.

i'm currently 23+5 and the frumpiness has come on the last 2-3 days - prob as i'm still desperately trying to squeeze into my usual clothes (don't really deal with changing body shapes too well). However have the last 2 days spent/am spending a small fortune on summery maternity wear in my size to go with that that I already had, am thinking dresses and sandles will feel more 'blooming' than jeans. (fingers v tighly crossed)

doesn't help with DP away he's missing my growing bump so am reliant on my folks saying i'm looking summery & blooming - they have to thou by default - might have to pop to nan - she's honest and said 'oh you're looking a little podgy - erm yes am PG!!! ;o'

oh and last night I noticed that the silvery stretch mark's i'd hidden from copious amounts of gym time have started to become visable again even after Bio oiling. :(

cupofteaplease · 30/04/2011 08:07

I am 16 weeks and just look fat. I always look unattractive in pregnancy as I seem to put on weight everywhere, not just my stomach. I hate the way people feel free to comment on my appearance too, I wouldn't dream of saying to a non-pregnant lady that her face is swollen!! Luckily, I haven't put on weight on my face yet, but I did with my girls, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Hmm

I'm also Hmm about the maternity models- they all look so glam, with just a lovely neat bump, but still with tomed arms, a chiselled face, a clear complexion and still in skyscraper heels...jealous, me?!?! Grin

prettywhiteguitar · 30/04/2011 08:17

haha heels in pregnancy, what a laugh....they take them off straight after the fashion shoot !

I have days when I think oh what, I look like a heffer but this time i've had some nice maternity clothes that fit, one really good pair of jeans from gap and a tight black top and I have definitely felt better about it all.

Have pigmentation on my face though much worse and my hair looks horrid but I have a lovely dp who says nice things so :o

ButterflySally · 30/04/2011 10:13

I feel pretty unattractive most of the time. I walked past Monsoon the other day and felt so envious that I would not be able to fit into their pretty summer dresses with their tiny little waists :(

DP says he still thinks I look attractive...but I doubt he'd tell me if I didn't!!

theonlyhb2 · 30/04/2011 10:30

only when my humongous breasts look good in a top (no easy feat when all bras are so big/uncomfy/ugly)

OH keeps saying I look pretty, can he not see all the bags and the hair that needs waxing?!

pod3030 · 30/04/2011 19:00

ugh, i am 11 weeks and my skin is parched and withered, but also spotty. when am i going to bloom? when? Angry

mamaesi · 30/04/2011 22:05

ok I am going to be the one to say yes....I feel very attractive and sexy... well i did anyway with my first. certainly not in the first trimester which I am now with my second.. now its all bad skin, circles under my eyes and jelly belly...

but last time from the second I had a bump i felt great...i loved finding pregnancy outfits that highlighted my bump...I felt so healthy and I didnt gain that much weight in my legs,face..it was all belly and bum..and I loved having breasts as normally I am just a tiny a cup... I felt glowing and fab, ith thick lovely hair...hopefully once I get my belly this time I will feel the same.

i love being pregnant.

cookie9 · 01/05/2011 08:31

lol @ camel comment Lisamumtojake!

Now 12 weeks and hoping ms has finally stopped. DH thinks I look lovely but I am trying to find clothes which look good but aren't too tight over the bump as I still bloat up by the end of the day. Have a bbq tomorrow and don't know what to wear as haven't told these friends I am preganant as we have 12 week scan the next day and wanted to wait until after that. Perhaps my empire line maxi dress might be the thing.

Georgimama · 01/05/2011 08:34

No I don't.

PeterSpanswick · 01/05/2011 09:04

Hmmm.. Toughie!

Last time I was pregnant I suppose I did feel attractive for the most part although I was worried about the after effects on my body.

This time I was really upset from a vanity pov after finding out I was pregnant at the thought of all I would be putting my body through again so soon after working hard to get my figure back.

I hate not being able to fit into nice clothes, the comedy breasts and looking like a balloon towards the end but on the plus side, my skin is great and I never have fat days seeing as every day is one and there's not a thing I can do about it! Grin

Georgimama · 01/05/2011 09:13

I'm not worried about afterwards - thanks to BFing I was slimmer when DS was 6 months old than I had been for two or three years (mental note to self - this time do not eat whatever I like on basis BFing will burn it off: it does but when I stopped BFing - gained nearly 2 stone Sad)

Am now 36 weeks and very uncomfy
, but as soon as I finished work, felt fab have been wearing 9bump showing short dresses with leggings and have been chatted up twice recently :) My friends teenage daughter told me yesterday that my hair always looks good. And I'm 46 :)

LittleMumSmall · 01/05/2011 15:37

First time yes, second time... not so much! Hair and skin a complete disaster area this time, and I couldn't be bothered buying new mat clothes so most days have been wearing XL sweatpants and DH's old t-shirts. So glamorous!!
