i know there is no scientific basis to these theories... but still i would like to hear your experiences....

first baby no sickness, no symptoms = girl
second pregnancy, bad morning sickness, feel horrible = boy??

anyone else find any correlations...
a friend told me bad skin, lots of spots = girl

what have you heard or had?

the shape of the bump - high and round = boy, low and front heavy = girl.

seems to be true in my case, been told we're having a girl and you still can't see my bump from behind (34+3), it's all at the front.

thefurryone · 23/04/2011 11:31

I've had morning sickness and pregnancy acne, hope this isn't going to be a case of twins by surprise [bugrin]

1st baby and no sickness for me = girl

but my bump is high and round = boy

I'm 24 weeks and not found out sex of bump! who knows?!

thefurryone · 23/04/2011 11:45

Just tried the wedding ring test and engagement ring as a control (I'm 40+1 and quite bored Grin), apparently it's a girl. This fits in with baby's heartbeat but not bump shape, but will be able to confirm soon hopefully!

Have also just read that right breast bigger = boy and left breast bigger = girl.

It's all bollocks. I have the happy fortune of defying all of the myths. I did enjoy being told with confidence by friends/family that I was 'definitely having a boy' or 'all boy' when I knew for a fact dd was hiding in there.

And yes that 'all out front' crap is a boy, look pregnant from behind a girl. In my case though, look pregnant all over = eaten too many cakes.

My Grandma swears which side the baby kicks first is a sign. This one kicked in the middle so is presumably is a hermaphrodite.

Oh no it is fun, I agree. But I do very much like when people become earnest and defensive about it (not on this thread particularly). The phrase 'but it definitely worked for me and my friend and my uncle's llama' is damning evidence. It didn't work. 50/50 are brilliant odds. It's just an idle pasttime, unless you're my Grandma and it's 'science'.

i had terrible morning sickness and i'm all at the front at 19 weeks. i want a boy and hope this is a good sign... find out wednesday I hope.

thefurryone · 23/04/2011 12:05

It is a great pastime, I'm actually smiling for the first time in two days since finding out I have to have an early induction next week, thanks OP Smile.

My oddest experience so far is when I was walking along minding my own business and a woman walking towards me, looked at me and starting shouting "It's a girl, yes definitely a girl" over and over until she passed me. Very strange but very amusing all the same.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 23/04/2011 12:11

Feotal heartrate below 130 either a boy OR a very laid back girl (100% success in me and about 6 pregnancies that I know of)

Feotal heartrate above 150 girl. Again high success...I guess could also be a.hyperactive boy bit has always been girl in my circle of friends.

DD had a slow heartrate. The chinese guess predictor thing was wrong for me, my sil and both of my currently pregnant friends. I was 'all out front' and had terrible sickness and a big right breast. All typical 'boy' signs. DD has no penis that we've noticed yet.

There is one thing that has a slightly higher success rate than you'd expect with chance and that's intuition. Mothers are better at guessing the gender than the 50/50 you'd expect. None of the others have ever held up against scrutiny. I 'knew' dd was a girl, dreamt she was a girl, referred to her as 'she' without thought. I still half think it was a lucky guess. This one? I have no clue.

mamaesi · 23/04/2011 12:28

ooh i love that chinese thing.

OP posts:
Beesok · 23/04/2011 12:38

I thought high heart rate was boy? [buconfused]

Mine was 163 at 12 wk scan, chinese predictor + pendulum test all say boy and since I found out I was pregnant my first thought was that it's a boy, subconsciously I am looking at boys' clothes, thinking of boys' names really not interested in girls' stuff ;) I don't mind either way (it's our first) but I somehow convinced myself it's a boy already! We'll find out on June 6 [bugrin]

lolajane2009 · 23/04/2011 12:42

has victoria beckham confirmed it is a girl so that example on there flawed

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 23/04/2011 12:42

Most old wives' tales state that the high heart rate is a girl. Some sites have it the other way round. All research has found no link whatsoever. Grin

Beesok · 23/04/2011 12:53

Turtle we'll have to find out and see :) I am secretly wishing for a boy (!) not sure why? It's almost like I "know" it's a boy.....hmmm let's see if the whole mother's intuition works!

Poppet45 · 23/04/2011 13:04

I love these old wive's tales. One of the early posters totally had the bump shapes the wrong way round though Grin. If you look like you've stuffed a cauldron under your top and have a round bump you can see from behind I heard that meant girl. And if you're all out in front it's a boy. That's what worked for most bumps I've met, and for me last time anyway... and if your DS is 98th centile for height and 9lb 6 oz, you give all out in front a whole new meaning.
I think the ms thing totally depends on what gender of baby 'agrees' with you, I've known friends sick as dogs with boys but fine with girls and vice versa. I was totally fine with DS but have had some icky days this time. No sickness either time though so know I'm lucky but am unsure what flavour bean this is!
Even my MW last time said the heartbeat speed seemed to bear out from her eperience.

Poppet45 · 23/04/2011 13:07

I'd heard that about intuition too. I knew DS was a boy. I didn't even look at any girls' names.... hmmm that could have turned out awkward. This time I have no idea.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 23/04/2011 13:07

And HR changes through pregnancy...it is hte last trimester which is 2important"

Trinaluce · 23/04/2011 13:07

I was SURE DC1 was going to be a boy. You couldn't tell I was pregnant from the back (unless I was walking, the waddle does tend to give it away), a friend of ours read my palm and said it was DEFINITELY going to be a boy and I had a REALLY high sex drive. (Not seen that one mentioned here - basically if you're horny as hell all through pregnancy it's a boy, if you have no drive at all it's a girl). Even the way the heartbeat was changing through labour had all the midwives saying 'oh yes, it's a boy'.

When they finally dug DD out and said 'It's a girl' both DH and I went 'It's a what?!'

This time around I'm carrying exactly the same (Old Wives say boy), palmist said I was going to have two boys, cravings are meat and cheese (Old Wives say boy) and I've had chronic headaches (OW say boy) - but I have no sex drive and FHR is consistently above 160. Who knows?

Incidentally, my boobs are both the same size, I feel a little left out...
