telling DH about BFP

DH's birthday today, spent the afternoon in the pub then DS really needed to go to bed so I brought him home (am knackered and have a cold anyway). Normally have huge gaps between periods, it's been 35 so tested. Promptly forgot about test....half an hour later have a BFP (baby is planned btw and we've been trying since June, I just did not expect a BFP at all)

DH called before I took the test when I told him to stay out as late as he likes - it's his 30th, I wanted to get an early night anyway and it's been ages since he had a good night out with his mates.

Do I call him or wait til he comes home and tell him face to face? Bearing in mind I seriously need to go to bed, but will wake when he does get home...

I texted my DH a photo of the positive test Smile

marie14 · 27/03/2011 21:19

Tell him now :D
i don't know how you've waited this long, what an awesome birthday prezzie!

Meow75 · 27/03/2011 21:20

I like mousebacon's idea!!

saoirse86 · 27/03/2011 21:22

I don't think you should tell him yet because you really need to do another
test. They say not to read them after 10 mins. Have you got another test you can do?

If you do another one and it's still positive I would only tell him if you think he can keep it to himself or you don't mind his friends knowing!

Either way, good luck. Smile

mousebacon · 27/03/2011 21:23

Thanks! DH rang me (from work) in tears! Grin

Olessaty · 27/03/2011 21:23

I'd re-test before you tell him anything.

saoirse86 · 27/03/2011 21:24

I like mousebacon's idea too, I might use that myself one day if I get the chance! Grin

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/03/2011 21:24

yeah I thought that saoirse......hmmm. I don't have any others in the house so would have to wait until tomorrow to test again which I was going to anyway....

hmmmm I want to tell him but don't want to drag him home and don't want to tell him over the phone....I don't think. Maybe I should just call him. Or text him a picture....that's a good idea (unless he doesn't get it?!)

booo - really? retest? wait until TOMORROW?!

jenga079 · 27/03/2011 21:39

Text and ask him to pick one up on the way home (Tesco Express and places like that will still be open and sell them) then you can do the second test together and get ridiculously excited Smile

PS - I think an evaporation line looks completely different to a BFP so I'm going to risk a massive CONGRATULATIONS

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/03/2011 21:44

it's a pretty big and thick line to be an evaporation line....

OP posts:
GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/03/2011 21:46

boo, now I'm a bit deflated...maybe you're all right, it prob is an evaporation line

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 27/03/2011 21:54

Go with the picking up another test idea. Try not to worry too much though, if I remember rightly, an evapouration line is usually grey or pale. If the line is the right colour, its probably a positive.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Grin

kitkat1000 · 27/03/2011 21:55

i'm sure they say a positive line stays there and negative doesnt?

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/03/2011 22:05

ok line is still there have called DH and told him but also asked him to try to find a late night chemist or something....eeeeeeeeeeee

Bonkerz · 28/03/2011 09:25

yey congrats!

I did 15 tests over the space of 7 days before i actually told DH i was pregnant with this baby (now 33 weeks pregnant)
When i did finally tell him i bought him a teddy with DADDY written on it and handed it to him along with an envelope containing all the tests and each test was numbered in order i had done them and time of day lol ( i had 2 miscarriages before having DD so wanted to wait till i was sure and also see the line get darker and darker!)(we had also given up trying to have another baby as had tried for 4 years and was told i wasnt ovulating!)

Dh was so shocked he actually didnt say a word to me and just kept looking at the tests. Took him about an hour before it all sank iin!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 28/03/2011 09:30

Wow 4 years? Makes our 9 months seem paltry. Think we are both in disbelief really, had practically given up in our heads. Yay! Thanks for all the congrats

Congrats!

I gave the test to dh as I came out of the loo - so he actually told me!! We had been trying for two years with one mc and I was resigned to it being negative again. He called upstairs and said "is it supposed to be two lines?" I told him to not be such a mean sod and stop winding me up! Then when I realised he wasn't joking, I sobbed and sobbed. DD is now nearly 2 :)

FoxyRevenger · 28/03/2011 11:47

Sounds much nicer than my effort.

We were in the car and I had to get him to pull over quickly so I could be sick, then turned round, wiped my mouth and said...oh, by the way, I'm pregnant.
