If your baby was breech at 24 weeks when did it turn (if at all)?

Humour me - I'm 24 weeks pg with DC2 and I know my baby has loads of time to turn but I'm mildly panicking as absolutely terrified of the thought of a C-section.

Any tips on how to get a breech baby to turn would also be gratefully received.

There is loads of time. My midwife suggested getting on all fours and doing 'cat stretches' (arch your back, but google for pictures) every evening.

MW/doc can also try turning the baby round manually close to your due date. I didn't have this but a friend did. She had to go into hosp, take some muscle relaxants ( I think) and they sort of pushed the bump around until the baby flipped. It worked for her.

I'm 28 weeks and baby turns regularly, at 24 weeks its not really breech as it can turn freely as and when it likes as theres loads of room.

Lots of time to move, dd2 and dd3 didn't move until 35 weeks . I didn't do anything specific to move them but did keep active ie housework, walks, hoovering etc, apparently your every day exercise is enough to shift the vast majority of breeches. Good luck, btw I felt dd2 change position, felt really strange, but didn't feel dd3 change at all. Went for scan at 36 weeks to discuss options and she had moved, was breech from 20 weeks, was still breech at 34 weeks.

Mine turned at about 32 / 33 weeks. I did do some yoga inversions to encourage it to turn, but that was all. I felt the turn and it was quite odd!

Boy was breech til 37 weeks when he was shifted by ECV

I knew too that mine had loads of time to turn but of course, I completely over thought it, freaked myself out and was preparing for a c-section (despite my consultant telling me it was way too early to give it a thought)

My ds was breech at every single scan I had (from 12 weeks) - right up to 35 weeks. I was convinced there was a reason he had stayed in this position and there was no hope of him turning. At my 37 +5 week scan he was head down! all that panic for nothing.

Thanks so much for all your messages - it's so helpful to hear that all your babies turned (either with or without help).

Will try the yoga inversions/cat stretches and attempt not to worry too much!

Someone told me babies are attracted to light and I was genuinely advised to go into a dark room, naked, on all fours and get dh to shine a torch up my fanjo

Although I shouldn't laugh too soon - I'm sure I'll be trying anything and everything if this baby doesn't turn!

this is a FAB site.

All about how to help things right themelves....lots of excersises to elp he baby turn....nothing involves anything intrusive either. very interesting.If you're pregant you can do their "belly Mapping" technique and work out the position.

I used t with pregnancy one and two and both times I worked out that my DDS were in Occiput Posterior....sunnyside up.

Acupuncture for me! DS was breech at around 30 week, MW recommended a local practioner and I swear 24 hours after my first session he'd flipped! Could be co-incidence but who knows :)
But personally I'm loving BLK's recommendation so I vote you start with that!

DD was breech at 28 weeks and I'm pretty sure I posted a similar panicky thread at the time!

She moved around a lot in general, at some point before my next mw appt (which weren't that frequent as 2nd time round they seem to just leave you to it) I noticed that the kicking to the fanjo region had stopped and she had turned.

Thanks Skinit - I'd forgotten about that site, someone mentioned it when I was pg with DS but I didn't need it for him - will have a good read of it later.

seora - will think about acupuncture if baby still breech at next appointment - does it hurt? I've never done it before?

RC - I know it's silly to panic at this stage, but I'm so scared of having a C-section. Hearing all these stories of babies who have flipped is helping anxiety levels a lot!

Will let you know if I go down the BLK route

BLK is right! We did 3 things all together to get DS to turn, although I was quite a bit further on than 24 weeks.

Our evenings went as follows.

Put walkman earphones (yes it was that long ago) in pants and turn on tape, Beverly Craven iirc.

Get on all fours 'cat like' and rock gently.

DH crawls under my belly (not much room there) with torch which he shines at my pants, whilst talking to my fanjo.

It was a defining moment in our relationship

Mine was breech at 20-week scan and had turned by my 30 week appointment, although I think lots turn later than that.

My DD was breech at 20 weeks scan and all appointments after. She eventually turned at 34 weeks which I did nothing to encourage as I was having an ELCS anyway (other reasons). The heartburn was horrendous!

Sorry to spoil all the positive stories, but my baby didn't turn, despite me doing all these daft things to try to get it to.

She was breech at every scan except for one at maybe 18-20 weeks and I was advised against ecv as I had a small bump and relatively little amniotic fluid. I even explored the option of giving birth vaginally, but my pelvic measurements were deemed "borderline" and the hospital was lacking in experience (2 breech deliveries in previous year).

I was dreading the cs, but in the end it was much less scary than I expected. They brought dd to me once I was out of theatre and I was able to bf her. My recovery was pretty fast and the scar is now (nearly two years on) hardly visible.

I don't know why she was breech, but there are possibilities such as the cord being too short/tangled round baby which cannot be ascertained by ultrasound. What I found very unhelpful were suggestions on these websites (and by friends) that I might have caused it by sitting slumped. I hope your baby turns and you go on to have a straightforward delivery, but if it doesn't happen, please don't feel guilty or feel that you are in any way less of a mother.

Biccie my love I might need a c section if placenta stays low. But would rather be prepared than have an emergency one like my friend who was induced and they hadn't figured she was breech. Also heard baby more free floating in second pregnancy as muscles down there not so toned. Or something like that. Don't fret all will be fine. Giving birth is never gonna be pleasant and you have 16 weeks to go. Have got 13.

VWR - you just made me spit my tea over the laptop Will wait until 34/36 weeks before I get DH to talk to my fanjo I think.

silken - it's helpful to hear that your CS wasn't as scary as expected and that you managed to bf. With DS they put him on me straight away and I didn't let him go for a good few hours so one of my major fears with a CS is not having the skin-to-skin contact immediately, that it might affect my bonding with DC2 and also that it might affect my ability to bf. The fact that you can't lift heavy weights (i.e. 2 year old DS) worries me as well - I think DS would really struggle if I couldn't pick him up and give him a cuddle when DC2 arrives.

hello my lovely, I can't believe you've only got 13 weeks to go! When will you find out about CS? You're right - planned CS is always going to be better than emergency one. Also hadn't thought about muscles (or lack thereof) in second pregnancy being a factor.

Am less panicked now. Will endeavour to spend as much time as possible over next few weeks on hands and knees (might not go down too well in the office) and hopefully the little monkey will turn by next appointment.

After DS was born he was taken away and put in scbu for 2 weeks. Still bf til he was over 1 and had no problem bonding even though was quite traumatised. Think planned cd ks better and you can organise people in advance. Whatever happens you will be fine xxx
