2 recent miscarriages and pregnant again, no symptons

hi all,
i've recently had two miscarriages, one at 12 weeks, one at 5 (although have a 3yr old). i am now pregnant again - about 5 weeks but really don't feel any symptons - no sore boobs, not much nausea. i felt very strong symptons with the succesful pregnancy years ago but for the miscarry ones i didn't feel much. is there any link between strong early symptons and a successful or unsuccesful pregnancy? i feel too scared to be pleased to be pregnant again, as i fear it will all end in tears. any (hopeful) advice from anyone? many thanks!

@Loulou233 so happy to hear your scans have gone well. We must havr a really close due date. I'm around 9+2 atm although scans have put me but further ahead but I know I can't be.
The vomiting has eased off over last couple of days, still feel nauseous and have food aversions. This has of course made me worry again so I think I'll book a private scan for later next week when should be around 10 weeks.

Jeds55 · 24/04/2021 06:48

Hi @gizmo167 congratulations on your pregnancy but sorry to hear you're feeling anxious. It's so all consuming and time goes so so slowly. Will you book a scan for a couple of weeks time? That way you'll have something shorter to aim for than the 12 week mark.

Jeds55 · 24/04/2021 06:57

Posted too soon, meant to say hope it goes well and keep us updated

gizmo167 · 24/04/2021 12:01

Thanks everyone for the welcome x

Are any of you constantly symptom spotting, comparing to previous times etc etc! I can't stop! Yesterday I felt very nauseous, today hardly at all, I'm forever squeezing my boobs to see if they still hurt, its non stop!!! With both my mc's that was how I knew, a total stop in any symptoms, so I guess its only normal

AlbiMix · 25/04/2021 19:22

Thank you @Jeds55 for all the advice. I'm glad that your sickness has subsided a little. I think I might book the scan tomorrow if I haven't bled maybe for the end of the week. I never would've booked one for before 7 weeks if I hadn't had an MC, I just want to know if the baby has reached heartbeat stage or not. Yesterday I was feeling a bit more positive as I'd had a couple of days of sore breasts but that's gone again now and I'm not even getting the hunger pangs as much, I just don't feel pregnant at all and just have such a feeling of impending disappointment.

When you book these early scans privately are you just booking the 6-11 week ones? Was wondering if it's ok to book more than one.

@gizmo167 yes I'm very conscious of my lack of symptoms and squeezing my boobs all the time hoping for some pain...crazy...😭

gizmo167 · 26/04/2021 11:02

@AlbiMix can I ask did you go through your GP to book scans or directly with hospital??

AlbiMix · 28/04/2021 18:02

@gizmo167 I've booked a private one as I don't think the GP or EPU or hospital would scan me unless I had bleeding. The private clinic I use does them for £70 which I think is ok, although they would add it up if you had several. I think some people can persuade their EPU to scan them early but it depends on the circumstances, I'm just had the one MC (which feels like enough to me but no one seems to care until you've had three). I just can't be bothered to push for an early can on the NHS when I'm pretty sure they'll say no.

AlbiMix · 29/04/2021 17:22

Hi ladies, I had my scan today and there was a heartbeat! Baby was measuring right for the dates, they said 6+5/6 when I thought 6+3/4. I know this doesn't mean much as anything can go wrong at any time but it's further than I got last time, so at least that's something.

@Jeds55 how are you doing? Did you book that 10w scan?

Hope you're doing well too @Loulou233. I still don't have much in the way of symptoms either...

Jeds55 · 30/04/2021 14:47

Hi @AlbiMix that's fantastic news. Such a relief to see a heartbeat and to get the right measurements. Hope it helps you to relax a little. Have you got any more symptoms now?
I didn't book 10 week scan after, thought I'd try to wait for 12 week scan but just had the date through and it's not for almost 3 weeks so may still book one. Time is going so slowly.

Loulou233 · 02/05/2021 12:44

@AlbiMix that's great news, I'm delighted for you. I hope it helps ease the worry a bit. Have you any more symptoms these days?

Yes @Jeds55 I didn't realise but we must be very close. I'm around 10+3 now I think. I hope you're keeping well. I had another scan at ten weeks, my EPU are keeping a good eye on me. Thankfully all was good again. I'll go back again at 12 weeks. I still have very few symptoms, perhaps a bit of heartburn and tiredness.

Hi @gizmo167, congratulations on your pregnancy. I know the feeling, the lack of symptoms can be such a worry but not always negative.

AlbiMix · 04/05/2021 10:20

Thanks @Loulou233 @Jeds55 it was reassuring to know I've got further than the last time but obviously still very anxious it will go wrong. I think I might book another scan for 9-10w as I'm meant to be going on a weekend away with family a couple of weeks later and I might have to tell them...so would rather check what's going on before that. I still have very few symptoms, have started getting some very slight breast soreness/mild tenderness in the mornings and still feeling more hungry than usual, but that's about it! My bladder is filling very quickly too but that's only slightly more than normal for me, lol.

So glad your 10w scan went well @Loulou233! It's great you're getting the early scans through EPU, is that because of just one precious MC or more? Sorry if you've said before. Interesting that you're still light on symptoms, but it's looking like it's not for any worrying reason for you as your scans are all good so far :)

@Jeds55 let us know how it goes if you do book that scan! I hope you've been feeling ok?

AlbiMix · 04/05/2021 10:21

Sorry @Loulou233 meant *previous MC, autocorrect!

gizmo167 · 04/05/2021 11:37

Aw great news girls on the scans :)

I have officially hit the 6wk mark today, havent gotten past this stage with either of my mc's so really hoping its a turning point! As for lack of symptoms, scrap that!!! Last few days I can barely lift my head for nausea, its awful!!! Havent actually been sick but have retched a few times, just constant nausea! I had ms with my DD but it came on evenings and didnt start until 8 weeks, the things you forget about!!! Still, all a blessing after the mc's xx

Jeds55 · 04/05/2021 22:16

@Loulou233 we are so close! By my dates I'm 11 weeks today/tomorrow. Both scans have put me ahead by couple of days but I can't be. So glad your last scan looked good. Not long to wait now, have you had your 12 week one through? Mine not until 19th May. Trying to wait for it rather than pay for private scan as car just conked out so expensive month already - my EPU have only done 1 reassurance scan.

Jeds55 · 04/05/2021 22:28

Hi @AlbiMix I told my parents early on as was so anxious and mum came to help when feeling rough. They live 4.5 hiurs away so could have hidden it but needed the support. Had partner's family over for garden dos in early April and had to abandon them and lay down so it was either look really anti-social or tell them early too. They all know the history so were tentatively happy for us and glad they know. Partner's mum does childcare for us one day a week and to be honest she'd probably have guessed by now anyway. I've always just thought of it as telling those from whom you'd seek support if things went wrong anyway and I don't feel superstitious about it as previous pregnancies have gone wrong when I've told no one in advance.
Let us know how it goes if you have another scan

Jeds55 · 04/05/2021 22:34

Hi @gizmo167 congrats on the 6 week mark. I hope you're feeling a bit more positive, sounds like you are. Do you have a scan booked?
Sorry you're feeling rough - I had totally forgotten how bad the sickness could be. I got anti-sickness tablets from doctor - they helped a bit but knocked me out so just took them when I had a really really bad day. I can get the name if you need it. Mine started slightly earlier this time around but luckily started easing from around same time - 10 week ish.

sabh24 · 05/05/2021 16:21

I had two miscarriages in last two years. one was like blighted ovum. there was only yolk sac. and the other missed miscarriage at 6 weeks without heartbeat. i m pregnant again now. 5+2 weeks. i had sore boobs before pregnancy test amd mateliic taste in mouth. but after few days matelic taste gone. and only sore nipples left. i sometimes feel little bit dizziness not so strong one. i am worried too about my sympotoms. i just want to have strong nausea for reassurance 😞

legofootcasualty · 05/05/2021 16:43

From my experience...

Pregnancy 1 - symptoms started strong and early including IB. I knew from about a week post ovulation.

Pregnancy 2 - symptoms were insane. Started with fluttery cramps starting a day after O, and boobs had already grown a lot and were veiny before I'd missed a period.

Pregnancy 3 - symptoms weren't as strong as the first two, so I wasn't sure at first, but they kicked in (mildly) before I missed my period.

Pregnancy 4 (mc at 5 weeks) - fluttery cramps starting the day after O, slight breast tenderness. Pregnancy test showed up positive 5 DPO.

Pregnancy. 5 (current) - NO symptoms, usual cramps. Early test was negative. Refused to test until AF was late because I was sure it was coming. Had a scan at 5 weeks because I didn't feel anything and was so worried, but everything was fine. Now 25 weeks!

So in my experience they've all been different. Good luck xxx

AlbiMix · 07/05/2021 16:52

@Jeds55 I know what you mean about telling people you need support from if it goes wrong, but tbh with the first MC I didn't find my close family that supportive so I don't want to tell them unless I have to. I think it's a generational thing, basically my mum minimised it somewhat saying an early MC is just a heavy period (it wasn't).

Not long to wait now until your 12w scan!! Let us know how it goes

@gizmo167 sorry to hear you're feeling so ill but tbh I'm jealous of that, not having symptoms is driving me up the wall. My breast tenderness has now gone again and I just have the worst feeling. I was going to try to wait until almost 10w to book the next scan but now I feel like maybe I should do it sooner to find out if something's happened. I have my booking in appointment next week but I doubt they'll refer me for a scan unless there's bleeding...though there could be by then if something has gone wrong.

@sabh24 I'm with you, I wish I had more symptoms for reassurance.

@legofootcasualty thanks for sharing your experiences, that's a little reassuring that your current healthy pregnancy was symptom free, but I'm still freaking out 😂 is it your fourth DC then, just the one miscarriage?

sabh24 · 21/05/2021 16:20

i am having horrible nausea and vomiting since two weeks and its getting more worse day by day.

Jeds55 · 22/05/2021 10:46

How is everyone getting on?
I had 12 week scan on Wds - measured at 13+3, all looking good. Such a relief.
Still have exhaustion and nausea - have yo eat all the time to stop it but thankfully the major sickness seems to have passed.
@sabh24 sorry to hear you're feeling rough, I did find as awful as I felt that it took away some of my anxiety. Hopefully it will ease as you reach the end of first trimester. How far are you now?
@Loulou233 have you had your 12 week scan yet? Hope it went well

@AlbiMix sorry to hear your family weren't supportive with mc, I've come across this aswell and often it is with the older generation but sometimes shockingly medical staff too. How are you getting on?
@gizmo167 hope the sickness has eased? If not there's a great thread on here for hg sufferers, some tips I hadn't thought of. Ice lollies were a saviour to me and the tablets from doctor allowed me to eat and drink a bit but zonked me out. Mine hit badly at week 6 too.

Jeds55 · 22/05/2021 10:52

@legofootcasualty thanks for sharing your experiences, goes to show how different pregnancy symptoms can be.

sabh24 · 22/05/2021 15:38

i m 7 plus weeks

Cafeaulait27 · 22/05/2021 17:21

Hiya, please don’t worry about symptoms. The only symptoms that could be an indication of a problem (but might still be fine anyway) would be extreme pain or bleeding. If none of that is happening please don’t worry although I know it’s easier said than done.

I’ve had 2 mcs and currently 19 weeks into my third pregnancy, my symptoms came and went a lot in all 3. In this successful one, I mostly felt fine - I never vomited once. Sometimes I did feel really tired and a bit nauseous but it really did come and go, I think it’s to do with hormone surges and how your body copes with them.

We didn’t have any early scans and were thrilled to see a healthy baby at my 12 week dating scan. It was amazing and made it all feel so real. Often I was worried that the baby had died or even that there was nothing in there - but it was all fine! Good luck xx

Jeds55 · 23/05/2021 10:25

@Cafeaulait27 am glad that things are going well for you and reassuring that you had little symptoms in this pregnancy when all is fine. Whenever I get a scan it always amazes me that there is something inside me. It's so hard to fully accept before you can feel the baby move.
I have to disagree that unless there's bleeding/cramps everything is always fine though as 2 of my 4 miscarriages were missed miscarriages so there were absolutely no signs that things had already gone wrong. The first one wasn't discovered until 11.5 weeks and baby had died at 7+4, I had surgery for it at 12.5 weeks and at that point there were still no obvious external signs, not sure how long it would have been until nature took its course. Of course in the majority of situations everything is fine without external symptoms thankfully.
