Stretchmarks

Can I ask when you ladies got their first stretchmarks?

I'm 30+ weeks and so far don't have any, but I'm guessing they'll arrive any time now!

They're not compulsory, she whispers loudly with a smug grin Grin

Two pregnancies, and not a stretch mark to see here

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/03/2011 10:09

I got mine at 39 weeks, sorry...

nunnie · 10/03/2011 10:10

Like the lady above I have had two pregnancies and not had any, am currently on my 3rd but there is no gurantee I won't get them this time.
I also didn't get bigger bust and being an A cup would have liked those, but alas it wasn't meant to be.

greentig3r · 10/03/2011 10:11

All in the last month, I'm afraid. Big, angry purple ones. Virtually overnight. Loads of them. Not just hideously unsightly but itchy and sore too. :o

HipHopopotomus · 10/03/2011 10:53

I didn't get them first time around and I'm 32 weeks now so who knows. I do take fish oils daily which is really good for the skin (among other things) and I rub the bump with grape seed infused with neroli & mandarin essential oils post shower. Who know if that makes a difference or not though really? It feels and smells lovely though.

I have some old stretch marks on my hips from putting on weight rapidly in my teens to I know I'm not 'immune' from them (very faded now thankfully). I have pale typical Anglo skin.

Good luck!

mojo1981 · 10/03/2011 11:03

ha ha!! i am 32 weeks, don't have any on my tummy but do on my bum and tops of the backs of my legs, i look like i've been whipped! lol

but the other half takes pride in slapping Bio oil on my butt most nights now lol

its all part of the job isn't it!? lol

iskra · 10/03/2011 11:12

Last time I didn't get any stretchmarks on my stomach. However I got stretchmarks on my boobs around 25 weeks. I had stretchmarks there already from puberty though. Hoping my stomach escapes unscathed again!

humanfraggle · 10/03/2011 11:22

I've just posted on another thread about this!

I didn't get a single one, midwife even commented on how lovely and smooth my belly was.

That was until the day after my DD was born, and my belly errupted into a mass of stretchmarks! Grr!

A year on, they're still slightly visible, but the purple-ness has gone right down.

I'm currently 16 weeks with my 2nd, and have the Bio-Oil on standby!!

PipPipPip · 10/03/2011 11:22

I just noticed my first one the other day - at 37 weeks! I thought that I'd escaped them, but the buggers were just waiting.

To be honest, I don't really mind. And I doubt that any creams make a difference, I think it is just luck of the draw, genes, diet etc. I'm choosing to see them as a trophy.

Fantail · 10/03/2011 13:23

Gave birth to my daughter at 36 weeks, no stretchmarks. Used cocoa butter every now and again. One of the midwives I spoke to thought that it really was luck of the genetic draw (my Mum didn't have them either).

beckie90 · 10/03/2011 13:35

with my 1st i got some on my hips, which i didnt really worry about as i was only a sixe 6 and put on 4 stone, so it was gonna stretch abit lol. they came around 27 weeks. this time im 35 weeks and so far not 1 but i could end up with loads yet lol

kiwidreamer · 10/03/2011 16:03

First pregnancy I got a couple of wee stretch marks on my lower belly at 40+3 but during my second pregnancy I had first new stretch mark at 27wks and a couple more by 32wks - bio oiled daily with both pregnancies from about 12 wks :-/

Cements the theory that girls are more troublesome than boys if you ask me ;-)

RottenRow · 10/03/2011 16:10

Didn't get any in my first pregnancy, used bio oil at night and palmers cocoa butter in the morning. I do have them from my teens so as someone else said I'm not immune to them. None so far this time, but I'm halfway there so still plenty of time.

getoffme · 10/03/2011 16:11

i got them at the very end, and the truth is there is nothing you can do, if you are to get them, you will get them, the good news, 10 months on, you can hardly see them and they were bright purple after birth.

MummyAbroad · 10/03/2011 16:14

41 weeks Sad I thought I had got away with it until then.

quasimodo123 · 10/03/2011 16:18

I am 31 wks with my first.

Don't think ive got any so far but have just noticed a little mark that i can't quite work out whether its a deep vein or a stratch mark coming Hmm. i realise how silly that sounds!! Will be keeping an eye on it Smile.

theborrower · 10/03/2011 16:20

I'm another that was lucky enough to not get any. I think this was down to me being a bit of a podge in the past having been a bigger size in the past and so my tummy was obviously used to having been stretched! I didn't have a big bump either. I think it's luck of the draw.

KatieWatie · 10/03/2011 16:27

Should bio-oil be used to prevent them, or to help once you've got them? And if it's to prevent them from what point should it be used?

Think I'll be prone as I have them on my thighs and back (??) from rapid growth in my teens, people always ask if I've been whipped Shock

MummyAbroad · 10/03/2011 17:21

I used bio oil, twice daily. I started as soon as I had a bump to rub it on. Like I said above I did get stretch marks at 41 weeks - but who knows if they would have been worse without the oil? My mum had much worse stretch marks than me (3 pregnancies) and my sister had none at allEnvy (1 pregnancy) My bump was huge and I have a small frame, I think your chances of getting them are based on bump size, genetics, use of oils - any mathmaticians out there want to write us a formula?Grin

HipHopopotomus · 10/03/2011 18:10

Before you fork out a fortune on Bio Oil I suggest you Google the ingredients. It's mainly mineral oil (a la Johnsons Baby oil) which is a very cheap ingredient, with a lot of quite nasty additives - not really that 'bio' either Shock unless by bio they mean by-product of the petroleum industry.

Wouldn't want to rub it on my bump.

MrsBloomingTroll · 10/03/2011 18:15

I got them after the birth, all over my boobs when the milk came in (day 3).

theborrower · 10/03/2011 18:17

further to my post above, I did use Palmers stretch mark cream. I still think I was lucky because I had a small bump though. But the cream was lovely and I used to like masssaging my tummy every night with it - was a nice way to connect with my baby. And it's not expensive.

Queenofthehill · 10/03/2011 22:27

31 weeks and I can see em a-coming on my bump... 1st pg, quite a big bump, been slathering on the potions from the off. Pffft.

LionRock · 10/03/2011 22:34

No stretchmarks but my thighs have gone cellulitey.

Janoschi · 11/03/2011 10:20

Yep, cellulitey here too... sigh.
