..Any suggestions? Ds and Dd both have Old Testament names, we like traditional names. Because of our surname it's best if it ends in 'ie' or 'y' or a consonant. Any suggestions? Don't mind names being slightly unusual - dd's name isn't commonly used. TIA!

gulp first one of that type that comes to mind is "Charity"

will carry on trying to think

mummytosteven · 21/10/2005 09:34

and of course Hope and Faith now come to mind

Racers · 21/10/2005 09:39

Mary?

acnebride · 21/10/2005 09:39

Tamar?

I know a Tamar and I think it's lovely, though not girly. I think she was one of King David's wives or whatever.

Racers · 21/10/2005 09:40

Miriam (apparently is a biblical name)

Marina · 21/10/2005 09:40

Dorcas
Tamsin
Loveday
Rosamund
Ellen
Cherith
Rosemary
Damaris

You lucky thing what a delightful task

sassy · 21/10/2005 09:41

Racers · 21/10/2005 09:42

Blimey - my imagination can't compete! Our DD was nameless for two days as we couldn't decide so I guess I'm not the best to help on this one. Good luck

Marina · 21/10/2005 09:43

Elizabeth
Bethany
Judith

SoupDragon · 21/10/2005 09:47

Dorcas??!

Marina · 21/10/2005 09:49

Butt out Scaly - I know Tortoiseshell favours the Biblical approach
What are you going to say if that's the one she plumps for eh?

QueenSaddo · 21/10/2005 10:00

Eve (can't get much more OT than that!)
Leah
Rachel
Sarah
Hagar (??)
Ruth
Esther
Rahab
Hannah

Marina, my dd2's first and middle names both feature in your lists.

compo · 21/10/2005 10:01

Martha

QueenSaddo · 21/10/2005 10:02

Oh, and Bathsheba, of course (though that does sound a bit like someone telling their dog it needs a wash...).

tortoiseshell · 21/10/2005 10:20

Lots of nice suggestions here - ones I really like but can't use (either because have already used them, or have family/close friends with them) are Rachel, Esther, Miriam, Hannah, Tamsin, Ruth, Elizabeth, Sarah, Martha

I quite like Eve, quite like Leah (but can't get over the meaning which is a Hebrew word for cow), I like Ellen, but I know dh doesn't. Sorry Marina, Dorcas doesn't do it for me, but you're right I do like the OT names!

Any more suggestions?

Marina · 21/10/2005 10:29

Darn it, now I have to grovel apologetically to Soupy.
At least I can now admit that Dorcas is not quite me either

Roobie · 21/10/2005 10:31

You've already discounted most of my fav OT names, Tortoiseshell but other ones I like are:
Abigail
Naomi
Phoebe
Rebecca
Deborah
Chloe
Joanna
Susanna
Tabitha

Kidstrack2 · 21/10/2005 10:32

Kayla, Riahannon, Sophie, Shelby, Emma

Raindog · 21/10/2005 10:33

I love the name Lilith which is even older than old testament and she was the first woman (before Eve according to ancient texts) but the story goes that she ended up a mesopotamian she-devil so even though she is a feminist icon and a great character, DH wasn't to be persuaded!

QueenSaddo · 21/10/2005 11:00

Not so much OT now, but slightly old-fashioned:
Beatrice
Betsy (I know it's short for Elizabeth, but I like it as a name in its own right)
Grace
Joy
Anne

Or what about flower-names, like
Daisy
Rose
Briony
Dalia
Lily (Lilian)

(This last one reminds me, somewhat tangentially, that my dd2 (3) was pretending to be a dog yesterday. We asked her what her name was and she announced solemnly that it was 'Lillette'... and couldn't work out why we all fell about laughing...!)

aloha · 21/10/2005 11:06

Edith (Edie)
Felicity
Stephanie
Amalie
Emily
Naomi
Angelica
Evangeline
Christabel
Phoebe
Viola
Nina
Emerald

DinoScareUs · 21/10/2005 11:07
