Hi all,

Thought I would post this in pregnancy rather than conception. I just wanted to know how long it took you to conceive...?

Was it quick or a long difficult journey?

Just a bit curious as I am onto cycle 17 of TTC - had all tests done and they have come back clear/normal and still no sign of a pregnancy. Not too worried, but there are so many statistics as to how long it takes... just wondering how long it took some of the mumsnetters....

Thanks for reading!

Hi Lanky legs,
Just wondered if you have had a BFP yet? (Hope so)
I haven't yet. >

DandyGilver · 12/05/2011 20:32

About 6 weeks. I was 37, DH was 39.

We thought it would be a year/18 months. Was stunned. Actually still a bit stunned and he is 3!

sunshinehugs · 12/05/2011 20:42

I'm 33, came off the pill last July but didn't really try till Jan - then it took 3 further months going for it till we worked out my cycle, I ovulate on day 21! Thought it would take years! Good luck to everyone trying!!

supadupapupascupa · 12/05/2011 20:43

DS1 3month TTC at age 33
D2 4months TTC at age 36

Second month for DD1, when I was 37. I'd had a previous miscarriage three year's earlier and a rough D&C left me with (undiagnosed for a long time) Asherman's syndrome (interuterine adhesions caused by too much lining being scraped away, sorry TMI) which took ages of going around doctors, and eventually me self diagnosing. I moved to Asia, had it operated on, had a coil in for 8 months, together with HRT to help rebuild the lining. Ob gyn said it was severe so didn't expect to see me walking through the door a few weeks later after the coil was removed. Nervous early pregnancy as risk of miscarriage is very high.

Second month of not 'really' trying with DD2 (am 6 months along) and 39. I didn't have a period however for 2 years as I was demand breastfeeding. Had to limit the feeds to get a period, which happened quickly.

Was gearing up to try properly, having bought a monitor, etc. But was lucky.

So I'm obviously, rather, we're obviously, fertile, but I have had non-functional infertility so I see the pain for those who have had fertility problems.

I'd basically accepted at 37 that I was unlikely to be a mother.

PrincessScrumpy · 12/05/2011 21:11

dd1 was 2nd month ttc
This pg - ID twins - 1st month ttc

I'm scared if we were to try again dh would just wink at me and we'd be having triplets Grin.

nannyl · 12/05/2011 21:15

We were lucky

I had read every book ever written on conception i think, and been practising my charting for MONTHS... also all sorts of vits, a SUPER healthy diet, for both me and OH and caffeine / alcohol free for 2 months before even trying...
lots if other strategies too such as sleeping in pitch black darkness all month except during ovulation, & ov sticks and CBFM

I knew my body inside and out, and was very very lucky to get pregnant exactly when id planned (for months in advance) straight away.

i was / am 30 years old

figgygal · 12/05/2011 21:23

chinateacup · 12/05/2011 21:43

About 2 years of trying very hard with DS 1 (age 30 when pg) ; about 3 months of not trying very hard second time around (now 33) ...

Eviepoo · 12/05/2011 21:47

ImBrian · 13/05/2011 07:39

DD1- was on pill, DD2- 4 months, mc- one night, DD3- month after mc, DC4- one night. I seem to be quite fertile, age went from 19 with first dd to 30 with his one.
Good luck :)

davidtennantsmistress · 13/05/2011 08:02

about 14 months with DS (although XH decided to be away for 6 months of that) 6 months prior we did personan monitor. had started fertility tests & i'd decided to stop every thing totally. both 23. (I had hormone trouble as a child hence early investigations)

this time wasn't on the pill but likewise wasn't trying pure accident. (sorry) a drunken night. I was 28 DP 33. I think tbh it helped more so both times being totally 110% relaxed.

lucamom · 13/05/2011 08:46

DS1 - 3rd month TTC Aged 30. 2 months trying initially then read and followed (but without the temp/charting side) 'sperm meets egg plan' which worked straight away for this and subsequent pregnancies - I didn't actually have a great awareness of when to do the deed for optimum effect so it helped with timings etc.
DS2 - 1st month TTC Aged 31
MC1 - 1st month TTC Aged 35
PG4 - 1st month TTC Aged 35 (PG about a week after miscarriage ended)

Spent most of my 20's keeping track of my cycles for the doctors who would be investigating me as was convinced I'd have problems with fertility (no reason to think this, just something else unnecessary to worry about!)! I realise how lucky I am and don't take anything for granted x

Bunnyjo · 13/05/2011 09:49

Interesting post...

DD - we weren't even trying and were using protection (28)
MC - 14mth of TTC, I was still breastfeeding DD anywhere between 1-3 times per day, so I don't know whether that affected my fertility (31)
Currently 38+5 with DC2 - had been TTC for 5mth after the MC, but decided to stop TTC because of the emotional strain it was putting on us. Got pregnant 2 cycles after stopping TTC (31 at time of conception, will be 32 when I give birth)

harrygracejessica · 13/05/2011 09:56

Ds accident as was on the pill

Dtwins first time of trying

2nd set of twins not planned and even had the morning after pill due to contraception accident.

jobrien1980 · 13/05/2011 13:51

It took us a year of really trying (vitamins, diet, OPKs) to conceive and I'm now 11-12 weeks pregnant. I'm 30 and my DH is 29. We had just done the initial tests for infertility when we conceived and there didn't seem to be anything wrong. Sometimes it just takes time.

cassnstar · 13/05/2011 14:32

5 minutes each of the three times (I'm 40 this time). Makes it hard talking yo friends who struggle to conceive.

rasta · 13/05/2011 14:47
