Hi all,

Thought I would post this in pregnancy rather than conception. I just wanted to know how long it took you to conceive...?

Was it quick or a long difficult journey?

Just a bit curious as I am onto cycle 17 of TTC - had all tests done and they have come back clear/normal and still no sign of a pregnancy. Not too worried, but there are so many statistics as to how long it takes... just wondering how long it took some of the mumsnetters....

Thanks for reading!

pg 1 - 1st month MMC at 9 weeks
pg 2 - 3 months after MC - DS
pg 3 - 2 months MMC at 9 weeks
pg 4 - 11 months DD

Age 35 at the start and 39 at the end. I have PCOS and was told at 18 it was unlikely I'd have children.

Wheelybug · 03/03/2011 18:39

DD1 - 2 months (almost 29)

PG2 - 1 attempt at being careless. Ended in m/c (almost 31)

DD2 - 2 years ( almost 33)

(interestingly all 3 conceived in May/June - infact my due dates for PG2 and DD2 were 2 days apart)

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 03/03/2011 18:46

Ds took one go (weren't trying, but we discussed the possible consequences of our actions so only a little Blush).

Current Bun took 3 months and 2 chemical pregnancies. Roll on June Grin

Florin · 03/03/2011 18:56

Lanky I was wondering how you were doing the other day haven't been on the first time frolickers for a while as feel a little past that now as I have been trying for so much longer than most on there. Had ovarian drilling in January so hoping that works.

LearningFast · 03/03/2011 19:02

We conceived in the first month we tried - I was aware of when I was ovulating as my cycles are very regular but as I am 39 I really did not expect to become pregnant so quickly.

We had been working on 6 months being a fairly likely amount of time for it to take, assuming my age didn't hinder things, and are delighted to find it happening so fast, but also slightly in shock - we now have to find somewhere to live, and fast...

Good luck to all of you who are trying to conceive - we had anticipated that we might struggle due to my age but as you can see that isn't always the case. I hope it reassures some of you that it is possible, just keep the faith and keep at it Blush.

3&1/2 years, currently 16+1 with first baby. I have lots of low-grade issues though which add up to a not particularly fertile mummy :( started trying just after my 30th, am nearly 34 now.
Got pg on my second insemination, was going to give up - tbh I think it was probably because I (almost) didn't care anymore, so was a bit more relaxed than I had been the last 35 months!
Good luck, it will be ok. There's a lot of support out there if you do need it. Try to enjoy it, and don't treat sex as a means to an end, iyswim :) x

I had my coil taken out and got pregnant that night..worked it out from my scan dates. I used the copper coil as it doesnt have any hormones in your system. I also out a pillow under my bum for 5 minutes after sex . Gotta be worth a try eh?

iWILLdothis · 03/03/2011 19:17

Pregnancy 1, resulting in ectopic pregnancy, 9 months TTC

Pregnancy 2, resulting in DD, 2 months TTC

Pregnancy 3, (current), 2 months TTC

Hope you get what you're hoping for soon.

FessaEst · 03/03/2011 19:21

Pg1 - 27 - first time we had unprotected sex - ended 6-8 wks as ectopic.

Pg2 - 28 - 6 cycles after getting all clear to ttc after ectopic - DD1. Used pre-seed, kept an eye on ovulation etc.

Pg 3 - 30 - first time without contraception, still bfing DD, currently 20 weeks.

Good luck, hope it's just round the corner for you!

del1 · 03/03/2011 19:21

We are very very lucky, or very very fertile?
I am pregnant with number 3.( will have 3 under 3's) We didnt try for any of them - all either condom slipping off, or one night of foolishness Blush
I am 34, and my partner is 40. neither of us smoke, we eat well and are quite fit/active.

Ilovekittyelise · 03/03/2011 19:22

Well, conceive easily but it's taken a while to actually get a healthy one:

Pregnancy one - conceived first month of trying (age 33) but terminated at 13 weeks due to T21
Pregnancy two - conceived first month of trying, lost it 3 days after finding out i was pg
Pregnancy three - conceived 19 days after loss of pregnancy 2, am now 13 weeks and all looking normal

LisamumtoJake · 03/03/2011 19:27

emmm, i was 24 and conceived DS in the one time we used nothing...sorry!!

Karoleann · 03/03/2011 19:29

DS1 - accident on pill aged 30

I am pregnant now (20weeks) it took 22 months

However I fell pregnant at 11 months (MMC), 16 months (MC Due severe illness)

I had all the tests which showed I OV-ed most months but started to be irregular for no reason.

I bought a CBFM and fell pregnant within 3 cycles of using that....helped me realise when I should have been doing the deed! I found out was doing "it" 2 days out of my peak times. Just a suggestion.

I was on pill for 12 years, started TTC at 27 years and now 29 with no health issues.

Good luck!!

LankyLegs · 03/03/2011 20:01

Interesting to see how quickly or not people have managed to get pregnant!

Thanks for all your well wishes too! I am 31 - started TTC when I just turned 30 and DH is 35 - we both exercise and eat well and dont smoke. Just goes to show there is no rhyme or reason for certain fertility factors!

Florin lovely to hear from you - hope the ovarian drilling is successful for you. Will PM you xx

After coming off the pill got pg after 12 months of not actively TTC but not doing anything to not IYSWIM, no charting or OV tests etc just seeing what happened although much wanted!

24 and now 30+4 with first

Good luck!!!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 03/03/2011 20:06

About 3.6 seconds.

I appear to be the most fertile woman in england. When we decided to try for DS, I was already 2 weeks pregnant!

These days, I stay away from penises (penii?)

MandaHugNKiss · 03/03/2011 20:07

DD - I was 20, ex Dh also 20, both non smoking/drinking - fell second month

DS1 - I was 22, as above, we were using condoms and one time one split.

DS2 I was 35. New partner. I'm still non-smoking/drinking but he drinks. I fell the second month.

This pregnancy - I'm 37. He's still drinking! I'm still breastfeeding DS2. I fell the first month.

So much for fertility rapidly declining after the age of 35... Hmm

(I realise I'm very lucky)

piratecat · 03/03/2011 20:12

hi, i took 3 yrs to get pregnant.

all tests were fine.

i started trying when i was 30.

Kezzamo · 03/03/2011 20:16

Hi, dont worry im sure everything will be fine. It took us 8 months but I have a short cycle so that was probably about 11 cycles. I used ovulation testing sticks and kept a calendar! Three of my friends were pregnant and I was feeling a bit desperate. I was not drinking being careful about what I ate etc. Just before christmas we decided it wasn't going to happen and agreed we would go to the doctors in the new year. I went out to 3 christmas parties and drowned my sorrows........yep you guessed it! found out I was pregnant the day before Christmas eve.

I know it's a cliche but when the time is right it will happen. good luck xx

stripeywoollenhat · 03/03/2011 20:28

mmc - 5 months (age 38)
dd - 2 months (still 38)
am heading into month 3 of trying for dc2, but am 41 now, so who knows...

recklesspixie · 03/03/2011 20:53

lankylegs I got pregnany 1st month but like Nannyl and some other girls here I put in some ground work for a few months beforehand. I really wanted to get preg in Dec cos I want a September baby(I'm a teacher) took pregnacare for 3-4 months beforehand and DH took Vitamin C and Zinc, went for two reflexology sessions(in nov and dec), knew exactly when I was ovulating and drank a herbal tea that increases fertility.
I really think reflexology and acupuncture are worthwhile. Good luck!

Sibella1 · 03/03/2011 21:47

DD1 when I was 29 - 2nd month after being off the pill
DD2 when I was 34 - went to gynae second month, told me I have an underactive thyroid, before I started taking the medication I was pregnant.
Current pregnancy - BIG SURPRISE. I am 39, we did it once without protection just after my period. Ooops...

theonlyhb2 · 03/03/2011 22:22

the day we seriously thought it might be nice to do one day! We had been together about 5/6 months but were never careful (shameful face). I didnt think I would fall pregnant easy based on Mum/Aunt's histories and he hadnt been careful with his ex and nothing. I think it was the fact he stopped drinking alcohol that did it!

29 when i fell pregnant, now 16 weeks. Terrified! I thought it would take a year or something!
