Positive test or evaporation line?

My AF is due on Tuesday. We had unprotected sex on the 22nd January. I have been feeling a little nauseous all week, so I decided to do a pregnancy test this eve. I gave it about 30 seconds after POAS and it was negative so went down to eat my dinner as it was on the table waiting for me! Also, I didn't expect to see a line as my period isn't due for 4 days. About 40 minutes later we went upstairs and dh brought the test to me and it had a feint, but definite, positive line.

Dh went on a couple of websites and he thinks that as it was after 10 minutes it is probably just an evaporation line.

Any opinions on this? It was a cheapy Tesco test if that makes any difference!

You have to do another test as it was after 10 mins it is classed as an evap line, HOWEVER same thing happened to me 6 years ago and ran out to get diff test and it was + :)

Was it a def straight pink line? If so then prob faint positive. Take another one first thing in the morning as your wee is stronger - nice Grin

Lots of luck!!!!

MissMarjoribanks · 04/02/2011 18:58

I tested a few days before my period was due and got a negative. Something, god knows what, made me check again a couple of hours later. A very faint line.

I thought nothing of it really - just though it was an evap line but tested again the following morning just in case. Instant absolutely crystal clear positive. That line is now 14mo old and drifting peacefully off to sleep. Grin

My dates were similar to yours - unprotected sex on 24th, faint line 3rd, positive with bells on 4th.

Test again in the morning.

Ok, so I won't get excited yet then! Yes it was a def straight pink line, Bertie.

It was a 2 pack so I'll test again in the morning. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I can't remember the specifics, but there is a whole website about evap lines! I remember obsessing about them when I did crazily early tests with this pg - now 20 weeks in. Worth googling. Passes the time until it's really time to test!!

CrapBag · 04/02/2011 19:30

Good luck and keep us updated! Smile

Tesco cheapies ALWAYS give me a faint positive if left for too long. Sorry :( I really hope it is a BFP though for you!!

midori1999 · 04/02/2011 20:09

I found Tesco tests annoying for Evaps too, and Superdrug ones. I found Asda the best supermarket brand, did hundreds Blush never got an evap and got my BFP on one (very faint) 7-9 days before my period was due.

I think it probably is an evap after that time, sorry, but that doesn't mean you're not pregnant.

MissMarjoribanks · 04/02/2011 22:42

Do let us know the outcome cupoftea and best of luck. Smile

cupofteaplease · 05/02/2011 07:05

Well...this morning there was a very faint pink line at 5 mins after POAS.

I think I need to get a new test, one that is aimed at early testing.

You sound pregnant to me. Congratulations! x

weefriend · 05/02/2011 07:13

That sounds like pregnant to me! Congratulations!

MistleToad · 05/02/2011 07:15

cup of tea I also had very very faint pink lines on 3 Tesco tests a few days after my period was due, hardly visible at all.

Did a digital test 5 days after period was due and it came up pregnant and I'm now 9 and half weeks pg.

I think you are defo pg if there is some sort of line!

cupofteaplease · 05/02/2011 07:20

Wow, this has all happened very quickly. Can't quite believe it's true! I'm definitely going to test again later, just to be sure...

Thanks for the replies Smile

I second the others- a line after five mins is a positive. I speak as the veteran of several such lines far too soon to test. You have to ignore anything that appears after ten minutes or so, it will say in the instructions.

dribbleface · 05/02/2011 09:19

cupofteaplease - congratulations! You sounds pregnant to me. I did this a few weeks ago, there is 3 threads i started on it Blush. Very feint lines on 3 consequtive days. I did a first response one in the end, no doubt then (even then i did a clearblue digital a week later Blush - don't ask i'm nuts at the best of times!)

Now 6 weeks pregnant.

let us know how you get on!

cupofteaplease · 05/02/2011 13:50

I've just tested with a clearblue and it's positive. Still faint, but definitely positive. Can't believe I'm pregnant, how exciting!

CrapBag · 05/02/2011 18:47

Congratulations!!

I used a Tesco one on the day I was due on and the line was so faint DH said I was looking for something that wasn't there.

That 'wasn't there' is being born on Monday (ELCS). Smile

MandaHugNKiss · 05/02/2011 19:24

littlebylittle · 05/02/2011 22:33

cupofteaplease · 06/02/2011 09:09
