Not interested in those who didnt, who did and did it work?

Seen loads about it on here recently, i now own a bottle, but am still weighing up the odds.

No arguments over rights and wrongs PLEASE.

Lol you have really done it now

I did and yes it worked for me and my labour was fine hope this helps!

interested to know how many did is well!

Zephyrcat · 11/10/2005 18:26

Don't shout at me....!! Someone asked the same question on ivillage (boots health site) and got this in their answer....

It can be dangerous in some instances to try and interfere with the processes. The two old-fashioned methods of encouraging labour to start (administering an enema or drinking castor oil, both of which stimulate the bowels to produce prostaglandin) are no longer-recommended methods. No matter how desperate you are to start labour, don't try either of these.

someone needs to give me a cash boost so i can have reflexology or some other "natural" aid!

I suppose a hot curry would work in same way as castor oil, if you like curry? it would get your bowel going like the oil does!!!!!!

manicmama · 11/10/2005 18:45

I did and it worked. Labour was only 20 mins though (ds2) but everything was fine.

Have you tried having a spread? Curry? acupuncture?

My dh's granny recommended having Castor Oil with orange juice - it was disgusting but did the trick!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/10/2005 18:45

dont like curry.... and the spiciest food i can usually handle ive tried!

I took it with ds and it worked. Number two due in just over a week and I've just taken it again... about 1/2 hour ago... so I'll let you know!
I did read somewhere that is your cervix is ready it will work, but if not you could end up with bad diahorrea.
Took it at 38 +5 with ds.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 15:59

jackmummy - how much do you take?!

took 2 teaspoons in orange juice twice yesterday and NOTHING! Not even an upset tummy!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 16:00

oh and when are you due = im the 21st!

Jackmummy · 13/10/2005 16:09

Hi J&BM,
I'm due on the 25th, but am impatient!
I think because Jack was early I'm all set for this one to be!
I just took 20ml (4 spoons). The bottle said 2-4, so I thought in for a penny in for a pound! Think I took the same dose last time.
I just take it neat and oh my god does it make me retch... so disgusting!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 16:11

maybe its because i was mixing it with orange juice then and not enough of it.

Have agreed with DH that ill leave it for a day or two and try again.

Im TOO impatient for my own good! Jess is only 14.5 motnhs old and i cant cope with her and a HUGE bump anymore! Need some respite!!!

JABM - It only works by irritating your bowel and in theory irritating your womb into action..... so eat/drink something that you know will give you the runs! Not pleasant though!
Have a couple of glasses of wine. You're bound to go into full blown labour when you are stinking of booze, its sods law!

ThomBat · 13/10/2005 16:22

I did.

I did the whole bottle, mixed with pure orange juice and downed it in one.

i was 10 days over.

I firmly believe that unless you are over your due dates it won't work.

i took it at 7pm ish. Had 1st contraction at 10ish, got to hospital at 2.30am fully dilated and had Lottie with is at 3.57am

good luck.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 16:23

cant drink wine - i dont like it - makes me heave.... or maybe thats what i need?!

tried the things that usually irritate (suspected chrons disease) ie. nuts/dried fruit/fajitas..... had fajitas last night, and having it again tonight as it is a real craving at the moment!

PMSL at you taking 2 teaspoons!
Sorry!

Like I say, i really, really think you have to be late for it to work.
I know 8 castor oil kids! one of the mums tried going early twice and nothing. Went back on her due date, or the day after and bingo, it worked the 2nd time.

I'd also do a lot more than 2 teasppons!

Most of the people i know no less than half a bottle but i didn't know that till after and I did the whole bottle.

Didn't have awful bowel clear out but did go a few times which i was actually pleased about as meant far less mess in labout iykwim.

ThomBat · 13/10/2005 16:27

Oh and best of luck Jackmummy.

lua · 13/10/2005 16:28

I did!
With DD, was 11 days late. She was born 14 hours later!
With, day before due (Was going to be induced next day and really didn't want to!). Didn't work at all! Not even one visit to the bathroom!

A single tbs bith times!

manicmama · 13/10/2005 16:30

I drank a smallish cup of half and half orange juice/castor oil

Maybe eating prunes would have the same effect??

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 16:32

The MW that examined me on Sunday night/monday morning said i was "getting there" and didnt think it would be too much longer, so HOPEFULLY if nothing by sat/sun ill give it a proper go (ie, more castor oil than anything else) it should get things moving!

OP posts:
ThomBat · 13/10/2005 16:33

Well good luck, TC x

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 16:33

JABM, I've never known anyone quite so eager to have their baby!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 16:37

i know hinker, and i know you are pissed off with me!

It will happen when its ready i guess!
