My last dc was fairly big (9lb 12oz) and whilst my labour was very quick and I didn't tear, I'm kinda concerned my next baby will be even bigger (given so far I've gone 7lb 13oz, 8lb 1oz and 9lb 12oz).

I know there are many things that can influence dc's weight BUT a thought occured to me just now. If you fall pregnant fairly quickly after giving birth are you more likely to have a SMALLER baby, given that perhaps your body doesn't have quite the resources stored up that it did when cooking the previous? Further to that, does breastfeeding come into the equation ie, not only are your stores depleted, but there is still a drain on them!

Yes, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with a 10month old. I'm also bricking it that this one will be bigger - the speed and very distinct feeling of birthing a bigger baby freaked me out last time and I lost control (even though my notes said I was coping well).

SO! If you had two babies within a short space of time how was the second baby's weight?

Wink

DS1 (DC3) was 8lb 10oz and 5 days late. DS2 (DC4) was conceived when DS1 was 6 months and breastfed DS2 was 8lb 3oz and a week early.

Carikube · 01/02/2011 20:47

Manda I like your positive spin on it all Grin. If it's any help, I was told that DD1 was going to be a huge baby so the weight she came in at probably doesn't do her justice....

CarGirl · 01/02/2011 20:49

Nope made little difference

dd2 10lb 6oz at 17 days late
dd3 (born 14 months later) 9lb 2oz on due date

She would have been a 10lber as well if I'd left her cooking!

Congratulations Manda!

Although my circumstances probably don't apply:

DC1 Due date 7 lb 11oz
DC2 12 weeks early 2 lb 12oz
DC3 10 weeks early 3 lb 2oz.

There is 9 months between DCs 2 and 3.The Consultant said if DC3 had gone to term he would have been around the 11 lb mark.

Good luck!

DS3 born at 38 weeks 10lb

15 months later..

DS4 born at 40 weeks 8lb 5ozs....

I was induced as they though DS4 would be bigger that DS3..they got that totally wrong! Grin However 8lb 5 birth was a lot harder, longer and more painful!

Good Luck!

girlfromdownsouth · 02/02/2011 14:55

DD 6lb 1oz born 10 days early
Conceived DS when DD was 10 mths old
DS 6lb 10oz born 7 days early
But I am 5'3" and weigh used to weigh 8 stone. Now 17 wks so clearly not 8st anymore!

porcupine11 · 02/02/2011 14:59

I fell pregnant when DS1 was 9.5 months old, and I breastfed him until 11.5 months.

DS1 8lb 10oz
DS2 10 lb 1 oz

Sorry!!!!!!

I think it was due to my sugar consumption though, and I think hospital agreed as they kept asking if I'd had gestational diabetes.

DanJARMouse · 02/02/2011 15:00

DD1 6lbs 6oz

DD2 (DD1 was 15mnths when DD2 born) was 7lbs 3oz

DS (DD2 was 2yrs 1mnth when DS born) was 8lbs 4 oz

No chance in hell will I have another!

systemsaddict · 02/02/2011 15:04

First one 9 lbs 15, fell pregnant almost exactly a year later one week after he stopped breastfeeding, second one 7 lbs something. Both were nearly 2 weeks overdue. First was a boy and second was a girl though - that probably makes a difference.

MandaHugNKiss · 02/02/2011 15:11

Well, firstly, sorry for not reappearing last night; a belly full of thai food + compelling tv (gypsy weddings) + pregnancy -narcolepsy-- tiredness = manda to bed at a surprisingly early hour.

However, I'm very disappointed to find in my absence that you lot haven't worked out you're not to take part in my study unless you CONFIRM the theory! Grin

In all seriousness, thanks for the replies. Not sure we've really proven a darn thing, but somehow it's all making me feel somewhat better. Smile

You'll like me

ds1 9lb 14
fell pg with ds2 when ds1 was 11 mths
ds2 8lb 7.5
had dd 20 mths later 2lb 12

ds3 was 7lb 14 but ddwas over two by then

BlameItOnTheBogey · 02/02/2011 15:36

DS 7lb 4oz
DD 7lb born 16 months later.

fridakahlo · 02/02/2011 16:24

bronze was your dd a premmie? My Dd was 10lb 8 oz, but my ds (born three years later) was 7lb 9oz. The difference was I kept active during my whole pregnancy and did not eat the ton and a half of chocolate the second time round. I learnt from my mistakes, not that that applies to anyone else but I really should of handled the first pregnancy very differently.

Firawla · 02/02/2011 16:24

i was pregnant after 8 months & ds2 was huge 9.5lb, ds1 was aversge sized

CalamityKate · 02/02/2011 16:26

DS1 - a fortnight late. Weighed 10lb 15oz.

DS2 conceived when DS1 was 3 months old. Just over a year between them. Elective section 2 weeks before Due Date. Weighed 10lb 12oz.

MandaHugNKiss · 02/02/2011 16:42

Yes, but you had GD, calamityKate. No, no, don't try to protest, that's what happened and I shall mark it as so on my results chart Grin

DD was 7lb 2oz, 7 hour labour (born 39+6)

Got pregnant again when she was 9 months old.

DS was 7lb, 4 hour labour (born 40+0)
23333333
Had barely any bump with ds, partly because I was running around after dd and partly because they think my pelvis hadn't gone back together properly before I got pregnant again so he was lying really deep inside it.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/02/2011 16:50

(random 2333's are said ds' contribution to thread!)

bronze · 02/02/2011 16:53

fridakahlo yes she was. If I discount her though mine all got lighter

StrangewaysHereICome · 02/02/2011 20:34

DD1 born at 40 weeks 7lb 11
DD2 born at 39 weeks 6lb 10

Fell pg while bfing dd1 who was 9 months at the time

Now pg with my third - dd's now 5 and 4 and so far the predicted weight is 8lb!! I think there might be something in your theory Grin.

On the flip side I did read somewhere that having two children less than 18 months apart knock 5 years off your life expectancy Shock !!!

PacificDogwood · 02/02/2011 22:11

manda, silly pregnant lady Grin!!

Not sure what you'll make of my numbers:

DS1 7lbs 12oz 15 days over
DS2 3lbs 31 weeks Shock 12 months gap
DS3 7lbs 10oz 12 days over 4year gap
DS3 6lbs 9oz bang on due date 2 year gap.

AFAIK, GD apart maternal age also plays a role (I had extra growth scans when expecting DS4 due to my biblical age Wink).

Also, weight doen't matter as much as size: light baby with big head - ouch; heavy, squidgy baby with pinhead small head, no problemo.
