My last dc was fairly big (9lb 12oz) and whilst my labour was very quick and I didn't tear, I'm kinda concerned my next baby will be even bigger (given so far I've gone 7lb 13oz, 8lb 1oz and 9lb 12oz).

I know there are many things that can influence dc's weight BUT a thought occured to me just now. If you fall pregnant fairly quickly after giving birth are you more likely to have a SMALLER baby, given that perhaps your body doesn't have quite the resources stored up that it did when cooking the previous? Further to that, does breastfeeding come into the equation ie, not only are your stores depleted, but there is still a drain on them!

Yes, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with a 10month old. I'm also bricking it that this one will be bigger - the speed and very distinct feeling of birthing a bigger baby freaked me out last time and I lost control (even though my notes said I was coping well).

SO! If you had two babies within a short space of time how was the second baby's weight?

Wink

My ds1 was 9lbs 10oz.
He was born 6 days over.
I fell pregnant when ds1 was 9months old.
Ds2 was 7lbs 13oz. He was born 6 days early

robino · 01/02/2011 20:04

You might not want to hear this..

DD1 was 5lb12oz, born 5 days early.

Fell pregnant when she was 8 months old.

DD2 7lb3oz, also born 5 days early.

bally2 · 01/02/2011 20:06

MY ds1 was 7lbs, i fell pregnant when he was 8 weeks old and ds2 was 8lbs 10oz...sorry i domt think your theory is correct!

midnightexpress · 01/02/2011 20:08

I got pg with ds2 when ds1 was 5 months old. ds1 was about 4 days late, ds2 was a day early. They were exactly the same weight. Grin

Ds1 was not in the least bit interested in bf and was ff from about 10 weeks. DS2 latched on and didn't unlatch until he was nearly 2.

MandaHugNKiss · 01/02/2011 20:08

silverymoon I love you!

robino LALALALA, I can't see you! Heh. Seriously, though, were there other factors that may have caused DD1 to be petite? Or likewise any reason for DD2 to be so much bigger

Foxinsocks · 01/02/2011 20:09

Dd was 7lbs 10oz. Ds born 15 months later was around 3 weeks early and 7lbs 1oz

whomovedmychocolate · 01/02/2011 20:10

DD is 20 months older than DS (so I got pregnant when she was 10 months old.) He was a pound lighter than her.

MandaHugNKiss · 01/02/2011 20:11

bally and midnight thanks for your replies but you're not really playing nicely are you?! Smile

THere's still time for many, many people to prove my theory and you guys can be the exceptions to the rule. Sound good? Sounds great to me!

There is 360 days between my DS2 and DS3 (okay I could have just said just under a yearWink) and my DS2 was 8lb 6oz and my DS3 was 7lb 9.5oz. (though both were 4 weeks early so chubby for their gestation!)

MandaHugNKiss · 01/02/2011 20:14

THanks, ladies. I'm also ignoring the part where DS came a few weeks early and so probably would have piled on more weight, fox Wink

My methodology is watertight!

Twinklebum · 01/02/2011 20:15

i think babies weights will be what they will be. i have 3ds and my first was the biggest so i have buckled the trend!

ds1 7.8
ds2 6.3
ds3 7.3

all 3 pregnancies were very similar. fell pregnant with ds3 when ds2 was 3 months old.

2cats2many · 01/02/2011 20:17

DD 9.13 - on her due date
DS 10.4 - 4 days overdue

Sorry...

WomanwiththeYellowHat · 01/02/2011 20:21

DS1 - 11 lb 1oz
DS2 - 10 lb 5oz
(18 months apart)

To be honest, if they know you have a tendency towards big babies, they do mamnage you a bit more carefully next time!

toddlerama · 01/02/2011 20:21

Sorry to confirm what you already know....

DD1 - 9lbs
6months later, fell pregnant with DD2, 9lbs 15oz.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 01/02/2011 20:22

DS1 (9lb 9.5) was 4 months old when I fell for DS2 (10lb 12.5)

Then came DS3 but he was 2 years later.

Fell for DD (8lb14) when DS3 (8lb12) was 16 months old.

2 slightly bigger ones then 2 slightly smaller ones.

:)

(Labour wise - if that was asked too - DS3 was the shortest at 4 hours)

PatriciaHolm · 01/02/2011 20:23

Hmmmm...I fell pregnant when DD was 9 months. DD was 6lb 7 (10 days early) and DS was 7lb 6 (7 days). So didn't really follow here....!

robino · 01/02/2011 20:24

Manda - no, 'fraid not! No reason why DD1 was so petite (she's a giant nowadays at 4) and no other issues with DD2. DC3 is due next week so I'll keep quiet if they are bigger again (although there's 2.5 yrs between no2 and no3)

ajandjjmum · 01/02/2011 20:25

I think you're right Grin

DS 8 lbs 8 ozs
DD 7 lbs 13 ozs

15 months apart!

MandaHugNKiss · 01/02/2011 20:30

Thank you so much for all the replies so far. Can't pretend I'm not disappointed that my, frankly, brilliant theory is being smashed to pieces though!

Ok, I'm clearly not going to win this one. Damn! 2cats2many you, particularly, with DD being almost bang on ds2's weight... well, my nether regions are packing their bags and getting ready to leave, I think...(please tell me breaking the 10lb barrier isn't that bad!)

(I'm not really panicking. I mean, I am. But I realise that I've birthed a big baby easily and I'll do it again if I have to. I'd just really like NOT to have to! And to have statistics on my side Grin )

I got pregnant when DS was 13 months old so a little outside your year limit. He was 6lb 1oz and DD was 7lb 11oz. Hers was a much easier birth though.

Carikube · 01/02/2011 20:34

I think the theory has already been blown out of the water but here goes :

DD1 7lb 10 ozs 3 days early
DD2 8lb 5 ozs 7 days late

14 months apart...

amidaiwish · 01/02/2011 20:38

DD1 6lbs 6oz (3 days late)
DD2 6lbs 10oz (morning after due date)

19 months apart

abeautifulbutterfly · 01/02/2011 20:42

Well my dr said (when I was bricking it with DD2 after DD1 4.5 kg - don't do imperial, sorry, but that's quite big) that after a bigger baby the second is likely to be smaller. And she was, a whole kilo - 3.5 kg. Both well past term, 20 mths difference between them. Don't know if that only "works" for no. 1 & no. 2 though (see yours are no 3 and no 4....)

roomforthree · 01/02/2011 20:43

DC2 9lb 4oz, born on due date and DC3 8lb 1oz, 13 days late. 17 months between them.

MandaHugNKiss · 01/02/2011 20:43

Aha carikube ! You're not really disproving the theory though - with another 10 days of gestation, DD1 could easily have been the same weight, or more than DD2.

My thai take away has just arrived (the baby made me do it - who am I kidding if I think this one is gonna be smaller?) Back soon.
