I am 40 weeks today. I have hyperemesis and SPD. I am FED UP. So far this week I have : Eaten industrial quantities of pineapple (Thursday daytime) - did nothing. made DP have sex with me (Friday night) - did nothing. Went for a very busy and brisk 3hr walk around the town centre (Saturday daytime) - did nothing. Had a hot curry (Saturday night) - did nothing except give me heartburn and the farts. I have been drinking raspberry leaf tea religiously since 37 weeks.

WHY WON'T HE GET OUT????????

My other 3 dc were induced at 34+5, 40 weeks, and 40+2. My maternity ward is so short staffed at the moment that they are refusing to even see me to book an induction date until I am 41+1. And they have said it could be up to 8 days AFTER that before they have space for me to be induced. Which will take me over 42 weeks.

Thing is, this time I am absolutely CERTAIN of my dates, as I fell pg on DP's birthday. Blush. With my DS2 (the one I went 2 days over with), there was a high chane that he was (by MY reckoning rather than the scan) actually due on the day he was born. SO I kind of expected to go +2 anyway IYSWIM. This time, as I know when I fell pg, I expected to have baby today!

And I've been getting those phone calls for over a week already anyway. Phone is being left on silent now! AND I am refusing to go on fb until baby is actually here.

My Dutch friends swear by riding a bicycle over cobbles! Unfortunately the mode if transport and terrain aren't always so easy to come by in the UK.

StartingAfresh · 16/01/2011 14:21

LOL - poor you.

Promise this works:

Get hold of an errotic novel and read it on the loo. If you can manage it face backwards on the loo so you can slump forward a bit and lean on the top over your book.

This gets the right hormones going and opens your pelvis as well.

In between chapters, walk up and down the stairs sideways.

Applemuncher · 16/01/2011 14:36

At my ante natal yoga class they do this thig where you stand on the earth and stomp your feet whilst bringing your hands up. Apparantly it makes the baby know you're ready (and may have something to do with nature, can't remember).

I'm only 30 weeks so haven't tried it but when the 'due' mums have tried it they all gave birth within 2 days.

Got to be worth trying, it only takes a couple of minutes. Good luck! Smile

Theantsgomarching · 16/01/2011 15:08

Castor oil. Nasty but very very effective.

greenbeanie · 16/01/2011 15:33

Acupuncture can be very effective and is worth a try, it worked for me with dc2 but not with dc3. Like others have said it is hard to tell what works or what is coincidence and some babies do need that extra help with induction.

I hope that things start to happen soon for you.

OmicronPersei8 · 16/01/2011 15:59

Evening primrose oil - I had a friend who tried this. Open a capsule and apply directly to your cervix, apparently. And you can take it orally too. It's full of prostaglandins and so may help the cervix to ripen, which may help a little.

It's one of the only things I didn't try when I went over. Nothing I tried worked - I hope you have better luck!

Theeverexpandingrodders · 16/01/2011 16:08

I'm 8 days overdue now and nothing has worked I think that babies will come when they want I have tried everything but castor oil and am being induced next week

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 16/01/2011 16:17

I'm not overdue yet (38+2) but I sympathise. My pelvis is not very well at all and I am puking IN MY SLEEP. :(

I reckon just shag as much as possible.

That is the method we're using.

Plus a pineapple a day.

Oh and the space hopper.

gingercat12 · 16/01/2011 16:17

A little bit of swimming (more like bobbing along) in the warm children's pool helped me. Good luck.

lainey1981 · 16/01/2011 16:26

Have you been offered/asked for a sweep? I had 2 one at 40+3 and one at 40+5 i went into labour on 40+6( though didn't deliver til 40+8 < still not over it 7 weeks later lol>

I really think the second sweep helped as had a show that evening then went for massive walk the next day and started contracting later that afternoon.

I also tried pretty much everything else prior to the sweep and nothing worked.

One other thing to think of, could the baby be malpositioned? Mine was slightly on the wonk and hence stuck which they didn't realise til had been pushing for an hour and half. Reading up on this later, i realised that malpoisitioned babies are late as they don't out pressure on the cervix in the same way as a baby who is the optimum position. Might be worth looking at spinning babies website - can help you figure out how LO is lying and how to move them if necessary

IMO the baby will come when they are cooked and you Might as well put your feet up and rest because you will need all your energy for labour.

Just remember you WILL be meeting your baby soon

It has to be fresh pineapple, not tinned. I ate a whole pineapple, minus the peelings and went into labour within an hour of finishing it.

jimmijam · 16/01/2011 20:32

hiya, with my 1st i ate pineapple for a good few weeks, uber spicy currys (our local indian gradually made them hotter each time we went in 2 help out), 3 or 4 membrane sweeps, sex, walking round the streets at night with 1 foot on the pavement and 1 on the road, plenty of walking and moving around on the gym ball, rasperry leaf tea, u name it i did it- 8 days overdue a whole day of labour then a c-section.
2nd time around-i did NONE of it, he was 1 day early!
i think baby will come whenever he/she is ready

kelly2525 · 17/01/2011 01:28

Im 3 days overdue Loudlass and apart from the odd tight feeling, I just dont feel like Im close to giving birth.

I hate pineapple, urghhh makes me shudder just to type the word, curry, erm no thanks, would be terrified it would work and i`d shit on the midwife in labour, or even fart my way through it. Same goes for castor oil Blush

Sex is out of the question, as ive spilt up with baby`s dad, and as for long walks and exercise, my legs, from the knees down are so swollen it bloody hurts to walk.

Anyone else getting 1000 texts and phonecalls everyday asking if anything is happening yet?

Applemuncher · 17/01/2011 09:17

lilly13 - where does that woman doing the dance get her energy from??????

CardyMow · 17/01/2011 09:40

40+1 now, and no signs of anything starting to happen. Have decided I'm obviously an elephant and am going to be pregnant for 18 months. Hmm

littlemissw · 17/01/2011 10:52

I can second acupuncture or acupressure. Also reflexology can help induce labour.

LOADS of sex!

Some essential oils can help too, but consult an aromatherapist/homeopath before using any as some can be harmful.

Definitely DO NOT take castor oil ... bad news.
Best of luck!

LittleBugsMum · 17/01/2011 11:02

Ha, I tried the curry, raspberry leaf & nipple stimulation with DH :)

It was enjoyable. And sent me into false labour (pulsing/painful lower belly). Nightmare, couldn't look after DS & DH had to have a day off work. Then they stopped. I have since given up & am waiting.

Try the nipple stimulation anyway, just for the hell of.

that video's so funny, but where does she get the energy from?! Grin

ShowOfHands · 17/01/2011 16:08

Nothing works. It just doesn't. Of course people will coincidentally try stuff and go into labour, thousands of others won't. For example, you'd need 8 fresh pineapples at least in one very quick sitting to even remotely replicate the enzyme you're after.

It's bloody annoying I know and there's nothing that will make you feel better. But a pregnancy lasts between 37 and 42 weeks. You don't want to force out a baby who isn't ready, even if you could.

Oh and raspberry leaf tea isn't meant to induce labour, doesn't it strengthen the uterus?

Just do ANYTHING that makes you remotely comfortable and/or happy.

Chelle1986 · 17/01/2011 16:24

Have a spoonful of Califig - it helps you go for a poo (which helps you poo less in labour! Grin)and honest to god I was 6 days over due and had him 12 hours after I had the Califig.

Hope he pops out soon.xx
