Early scan, gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetus yet

This is my fifth pregnancy, I have one dc.

I'm 7+5 based on my lmp, although I chart and know that I ovulated around cd 18 which would make me 7+1, I think.

Because I have a history of miscarriage I had an early scan today. They saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no fetus yet. They are going to rescan me in 2 weeks. They've told me to try and relax and that everything is in line with a very early pregnancy. But although I know it's early, I'm in a complete state. I'm pretty sure with ds I had a scan at around 7+6 and we saw a heartbeat.

I know no-one can tell me how my pregnancy is going to go but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who had a similar experience and to know how it turned out - good or bad.

Nell - Apparently Lewisham hospital also take walk-ins if that's anywhere near you. I think you're right to be realistic, given your other (lack of) symptoms, but I really hope it's not bad news for you.

Orangegloss - Brilliant news!! Really pleased for you. What a relief.

Hi ladies, I had what looked like 'periods' upto 28weeks with my dd.They were regular, very heavy and painfull. She is now a healthy, funny and all round perfect 6yr old. Hang in there.x

Nell799 · 21/01/2011 13:17

chelstonmum , that sounds positive .

I booked private scan for tomorrow . Probably should wait till Monday and go with the flow , but it seems like ages away . Also keep thinking I am being melodramatic . Anyone else feel like that ?

chelstonmum · 21/01/2011 13:23

Nell, you are not being melodramatic at all. My dd is now six. I am 5+2 with baby number 3 and have been trying since dd was very small. This is something you have longed for and it is very hard to be patient. Good luck for tomorrow. x

artifarti · 21/01/2011 13:41

Thanks, chelstonmum - and good luck with your pregnancy.

Absolutely not melodramatic at all Nell; please don't feel like that. Your EPU were very dismissive, which probably hasn't helped how you are feeling one bit. If you look in any pregnancy book or website, they say to talk to medics if you have any pain or bleeding in pregnancy.

That's good that you have a scan tomorrow - what time is it, I will be thinking of you. How is the bleeding now?

Coconutfeet · 21/01/2011 15:36

Definately not melodramatic Nell! You just want to know what's going on - that's completely normal. I'm also shocked by how your EPU brushed you off.

Chelstonmum - That must have been so worrying for you!

Really, really sorry to hear that Nell. Horrible news. I hope you're resting and being very kind to yourself. Take care. x

artifarti · 23/01/2011 08:21

How are you doing Coconutfeet? Is your scan this week? Mine is tomorrow - starting to feel very nervous...

belgina · 23/01/2011 08:45

nell. I'm so sorry for you. It's so hard. Do take it easy and have some time off work. All this takes a lot out of you both physically and emotionally.

orangegloss. I'm so happy for you. Fantastic news :o. Gives us all a little hope I think.

artifarti coconutfeet how are you guys?

chelstonmum thank you so much for your story. It's always nice. To hear positive things.

I've been off line for a bit with moving house. No further fresh loss since Thurs. Just old blood, IYKWIM. I've done another test and it's still very positive. My sptoms are mild though, but I have been very distracted and busy and I do always feel better when active, e.g. Work, so am feeling a bit more positive again. When I phoned work, the person in charge also gave me a little hope by saying that she had a lot of bleeding, incl clots at the start of her pregnancy and that she's still pg.

artifarti · 23/01/2011 08:51

Hello belgina - so glad to hear that you are feeling positive and no more fresh blood. I had been wondering how things were with you. Moving house - that's what I call keeping busy! Are they going to scan you this week?

I've been okay but my scan tomorrow so starting to get nervous. Still brown spotting but so far just the one episode of red blood on Wednesday night. I never had any of this in my first pregnancy so wish I knew what was going on. Confused

Must keep busy, must keep busy...

Coconutfeet · 23/01/2011 09:02

Good to hear you're feeling a bit better Belgina.

Artifarti - I can imagine how nervous you must be feeling about tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes. My scan's not till Friday but already if I think about it, my palms start sweating and I get myself in a complete state. I'm feeling exhausted, so my body's obviously doing something. I've been napping with my son when we're at home (I work p/t) and still need to go to bed at around 9.30. I'm also feeling quite sick - it's a low-level nausea that comes and goes. I had the same symptoms with my ds so I'm hoping that it's a good sign.

I had an acupuncture session yesterday and she asked me what my instinct was about the pregnancy. I realised that, after having a blighted ovum (sac but no fetus) which showed up on a scan and took me by complete suprpise even though I was bleeding slightly, I've completely lost confidence in my instincts. It's sad really.

belgina · 23/01/2011 10:29

coconutfeet I know what you mean with losing trust in your instincts. This pregnancy so far hasn't been anything like my others and I really don't know what to think. If I really had my dates wrong, then the sickness wont kick in properly until next week some time, but if I did have it right, then they're really mild Confused I have had some bleeding in previous pregnancies, hence early scans with all of them, but nothing as dark and as much as it was on Thurs. Today, i'm thinking it'll be ok, but maybe I'm just wishful thinking.

artifarti. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

artifarti · 23/01/2011 16:01

Yes, my instincts have gone out of the window too. One minute I think it's all going to be fine, the next minute the opposite. I had no real symptoms in my first pregnancy to begin with so nothing much to go on there. My breasts are a bit sore and certain smells make me gag but it's hard to know if it's just my imagination - or that my body is still making the hormones as it doesn't realise that it's gone wrong yet.

I am feeling quite down today but at least this time tomorrow I will know one way or the other. Scan at 2.30. Will let you know.

artifarti · 23/01/2011 17:15

AAAAARRRRGH - STOP ME FROM GOOGLING! Confused

belgina · 23/01/2011 17:38

artifarti STOP GOOGLING!!!! :o

Nell799 · 23/01/2011 17:46

good luck artifarti .

artifarti · 23/01/2011 18:33

Thanks Nell. Hope you are okay (as you can be at such a time).

Coconutfeet · 23/01/2011 19:40

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow afternoon, Artifarti. Really hope it goes well.

I've been googling like crazy too. It's not helpful is it...

How are you bearing up Nell?

OP posts:
belgina · 23/01/2011 20:57

Oh no. Bleeding again Sad I hope it stops again. It's all so strange, because my symptoms got worse today. So confused and scared.

artifarti good luck for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. Hopefully it's good news.

nell glad to see you. How are you holding up?

coconutfeet. How are things with you?

artifarti · 23/01/2011 21:24

Sorry to hear that belgina but try and remember that bleeding deosn't always mean bad news (hard, I know). Your EPU said they would scan you this week, didn't they, if there was more bleeding?

And thanks CoconutFeet. Stay away from Dr Google...

Coconutfeet · 23/01/2011 21:30

How horrible for you Belgina. Like Artifarti says, it doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong. Do you think you'll be able to get a scan tomorrow and see what's going on?

OP posts:
belgina · 23/01/2011 21:43

Thanks, artifarti and coconutfeet. I had to use my mooncup as that's all I had to hand when it started and in 2h it was half full and still coming. That's quite a lot of bleeding. I'll phone EPAC tomorrow and see what they say. I'm really not positive though Sad
