Early scan, gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetus yet

This is my fifth pregnancy, I have one dc.

I'm 7+5 based on my lmp, although I chart and know that I ovulated around cd 18 which would make me 7+1, I think.

Because I have a history of miscarriage I had an early scan today. They saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no fetus yet. They are going to rescan me in 2 weeks. They've told me to try and relax and that everything is in line with a very early pregnancy. But although I know it's early, I'm in a complete state. I'm pretty sure with ds I had a scan at around 7+6 and we saw a heartbeat.

I know no-one can tell me how my pregnancy is going to go but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who had a similar experience and to know how it turned out - good or bad.

Hi , we went to A&E and they gave us the number of the epau to call tomorrow morning , and told to go back to A&E if I start to get heavier or pass tissue . It has appeared to stop , but I did get bad period cramps with it . This , with lack of symptoms , and scan results makes it hard to be positive !

Hope you are all ok .

belgina · 19/01/2011 18:33

nell glad the bleeding stopped. Take it easy and go to bed early tonight. Hopefully things will settle down with some rest :)

artifarti · 19/01/2011 19:54

Take care of yourself Nell and try not to worry too much. Call the EPAU tomorrow - they may be able to test your hormones or do another scan.

Had a good retch tonight when changing DS's cheesy nappy - hoping that's a good sign! In work tomorrow so at least the day should go quickly.

OrangeGloss · 20/01/2011 06:59

Nell I hope you manage to get an appointment today, and are feeling a bit better (or as best you can in this situation)

I passed a large clot last night after no bleeding for over a week, no pain or cramps it just dropped out (sorry tmi)

Really freaked me out despite the MW saying don't worry, so I'm going to try my epu when they open at 8 and see if they'll scan me early

Last time, they asked about the clot if it had any blue bits etc in, so I tried to look this time but wasn't sure what I was looking for :(

I hope everyone else is holding out ok?

belgina · 20/01/2011 07:55

nell how are you this morning?

Nell799 · 20/01/2011 08:42

Orangegloss , I hope you are ok. Was reading up on bleeding last night and it seems it can happen in healthy pregnancy. Let me know whether they scan you, and what they say . I was always under the impression that pregnancy was meant to be something to enjoy ! I'm not enjoying it so far !

I stopped bleeding , its more pink and brown when I wipe , but I do keep getting period twinges. Can't phone Epau till 9 ! Am worried about having another scan 5 days after the first one , as there may not be no change , and they may assume the worst . I'll have to wait and see .

I hope everyone else is ok .

artifarti · 20/01/2011 09:12

Morning all, things not so good here. Some red blood last night, quite a bit. No point in calling the EPU really so just going to see what happens. Fed up of this now, just want it over with one way or another.

Nell - a lot can change in 5 days, hope you get some piece of mind.

Orangegloss - hope you are okay too and the EPU can reassure you.

Nell799 · 20/01/2011 09:22

oh no , looks like a few of us are in the same boat . hope you're ok artifarti.

Epau won't see me till Monday , and seemed very stand offish. Don't they realise a few polite words can make all the difference .

I'm off to work now to wait it out too .

Coconutfeet · 20/01/2011 09:36

How horrible for all of you. Sad

Sorry EPAU were unhelpful Nell. You'd think they'd realise what a worrying time this is for someone in your position.

Hopefully you've managed to get an early scan Orangegloss and have some answers.

Thinking about you all. x

Nell I think a lot of them have been there so long they forget that it's such a traumatic time for us. I hope you're doing ok, and the bleeding keeps at bay

artifarti sorry you're bleeding too, I know how you feel, I just want to know one way or the other

I'm still waiting for the epu to ring me back, but have booked a private scan for tomorrow at 12, so I feel a bit better thinking I'll know soon

belgina · 20/01/2011 12:08

Well, started bleeding too :(. AF was due today and it seems to have arrived.... Will phone epau for advice though.

artifarti · 20/01/2011 12:17

Sorry to hear that belgina. Let us know how you get on.

How is everyone else holding up?

belgina · 20/01/2011 12:25

I'm actually feeling ok. I never felt pregnant, like I did with the others. It's like a feeling deep down I knew I was pregnant and a test just confirms this feeling. I never has this.

How are you feeling, artifarti

OrangeGloss · 20/01/2011 13:14

Sorry to hear that Belgina, I'm glad you're feeling ok, and hope the epu are helpful

My epu just rang back, and have moved my appointment forward to 8am tomorrow so I'll be glad to get the news and be in the system. If it's bad news I'm getting drunk this weekend

belgina · 20/01/2011 13:54

EPAC were lovely. They basically said they can't say which way it'll go. To take some paracetamol of I'm in pain, to make sure I'm not alone and I've got a shoulder to cry on and to go to a&e if I haemorrhage. If I bleed again (it's eased a bit) they might scan me next week instead.

Nell799 · 20/01/2011 15:40

oh no . the spotting has started up again, but darker red and slightly more heavy than yesterday . I know no one can do anything , but can a scan actually tell if you are MCing ? If so thinking of booking a private one tomorrow .

what a rubbish weekend for us all !,

artifarti · 20/01/2011 16:00

Nell, I think the scan can tell you if the foetus looks viable for where your dates should be (heartbeat, for instance) and if everything looks 'in order'. Similarly it can tell you if something looks wrong for the dates. So, yes, they can reassure you. Problem is this early there can be so much variance (hence this horrible thread!) How far along do your dates/scans have you?

This is truly rubbish, yes. No more bleeding today (yet). I was meant to be in work on Monday and then I swapped it to today but didn't go in because of last night's bleed. Apparently the rumour going round is that I am pregnant. Great, just what I need when I go back, especially if this all ends badly.

How is everyone else?

artifarti · 20/01/2011 16:03

OrangeGloss - will be thinking of you tomorrow morning.

belgina - look after yourself.

Nell799 · 21/01/2011 07:02

orangegloss , good luck this morning .

belgina, artifarti and coconut feet , how are you doing ?

I am like I am having a period now , so I think ill be having that glass of wine this weekend :(

artifarti · 21/01/2011 08:47

I'm sorry, Nell but it still might be okay. Are you still thinking of a scan? You should take the day off work and put your feet up.

I'm okay. Still spotting but no more blood as yet. Just counting down the days and trying to keep busy.

How's everyone else?

Coconutfeet · 21/01/2011 09:22

So sorry to hear that Nell. Sad Are you going to have a private scan or just wait it out and see what happens? Either way, I hope you're resting and being kind to yourself.

Orangegloss - Hopefully you've had the scan by now and things are a bit clearer. I really hope it's good news for you.

I'm OK. Quite queasy. Hoping that's a good thing.

OrangeGloss · 21/01/2011 09:37

My scan showed me to be measuring 7-8 weeks with a heartbeat Grin which means I've caught up on some of the days I'd lost. I'm taking a day at a time until 12 week scan now

coconutfeet queasy us good!
artifarti glad to hear the bleeding has eased off
Nell I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you have someone to look after you x

I hope the wait isn't too unbearable for you all x

Nell799 · 21/01/2011 09:46

Im really happy for you OrangeGloss! It goes to show that early scans cant always be predictive of what stage we are at, and going by the text book for measurements isnt good so early on in pregnanacy.

CoconutFeet I bet the queasiness is welcomed?

Artifarti, glad you are feeling better.

I am definitly getting heavier. I dont know whether to go for a scan tomorrow or wait till Monday. If it is a MC, I guess they would see the tissue and stuff falling away? They said my sac had a good shape previously, so I guess they could also take a look at the shape and measurements to see if decressed? I know I am sounding negative, but I am just trying to be realistic! My boobs are deflated.

I dont think im going into work today, but I just got a promotion, so I want to tell my new boss what is happening. Im going to email him and chat with him, so that I have a record, just in case.

artifarti · 21/01/2011 09:54

Yaaaaaay OrangeGloss - so pleased for you. GrinGrinGrin

Nell - if it's what you want to do, go for a scan. Will your EPU definitely not do it if you are getting heavier?

artifarti · 21/01/2011 11:29

Nell - you're nowhere near London are you? It's just that St George's in Tooting have an EPU that you can walk into. You have to get there at 8am but they're brilliant.
