16 Weeks and not showing *apparently*

Sorry to arrive at only my second post with a rant...but otherwise I have to wait until 7pm when DH gets home...and I might have exploded by then Smile
At work today a customer came in and overheard a conversation between myself and a colleague re; me being pregnant, she said congratulations (lovely) asked when I was due and I told her end of June ... she looked amazed and said
"well, I wouldn't have guessed, you don't look at all pregnant..."
Totally well meaning and she is a lovely lady but having suffered a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks last year I am now a wreck - I nearly persuaded myself to buy an fetal heart monitor on my way home...£££!!!
When I look at myself in the mirror I can see a small bump and my lower stomach(?) feels hard when I press it - but I don't feel that I have popped like a lot of ladies have described ... I think I am just hear to ask if anyone else is on their first and not really looking pregnant...and then I shall stop panicing and wait patiently until my MW appt next tuesday...

Is it your first (apart from the MMC obviously)? With DD I hardly showed at all till about 24 weeks although obviously I could see a little bump. I found it reassuring but was annoyed no-one else could see it.
By about 24 weeks I was quite uncomfortable and it did then pop out and I felt much better and looked pregnant!
I'm now expecting DC2 and am bigger than the first time although apparently still tiny! I think people think they are being kind but I actually quite like looking pregnant! If YOU can tell then be reassured.

With ds1 I didn't tell people I was pg until 16 weeks and no one had guessed, and I was wearing my usual clothes until about 24 weeks - and I really don't think that that is very unusual.

Easier said than done I know, but try and relax.

Don't worry! Everyone shows at different times.
When i left work with dc1 a few people asked why i was leaving, i was 37 weeks and huge! I am a larger lady so never really showed until 24 weeks ish with all 4!x

When I was pregnant with my first I didn't show until nearly 20 weeks. People at work began suspecting around 17/18 but I had been on holiday and they thought it might be post holiday bulge Grin.

I know it's hard not to worry when you've suffered a mmc (had one myself) but be reassured as it's your first you won't properly show for a while. My friend only really showed, just, when she was 37 weeks!

June is a long way off, please don't worry! I didn't show (obviously enough to other people) until about 25 weeks with DS2 and everyone tells you that you show much quicker than with your first, not true for me! You will start blossoming before long I'm sure, but you are bound to get loads more insensitive comments too, people like to tell you scare stories of births, how to deal with the baby and all sorts so try to grow a thicker skin.

Thank you so much for the reassurances (and so quickly!) - I shall now stop looking at google images of people who are 16 weeks pregnant and the size of a 3-bed-semi!!
...and then go and eat a tub of ice-cream to fatten myself up!

Wouldn't worry at all.

I definitely didn't look pregnant at 16 weeks and concealed it fairly succesfully at a family 'do' (didn't want to detract from the focus of attention) at 21 weeks. You do suddenly pop, which is bizarre when it does happen!

KK I'm 20 weeks with my first & someone finally commented on my "tiny" bump this morning!

Like you so many people were asking where I was keeping it etc. Before I got pregnant I thought I'd be delighted with such comments. But I worked myself up into a right frenzy! However, I had my 20 week scan last week & there it was, wriggling around, all prefectly formed.

Can I ask perhaps a personal question - are you a slightly larger lady anyway? I am, & I just think there's more room for my body to accomodate baby before it starts to really show.

I'm sure that everything is fine, but if you're seriously worried maybe give your MW a call.

littlemisslozza - oo yes insensitive comments...someone has already, helpfully, told me that the midwife I have is totally rubbish - I have chosen not to listen to that comment!

Oh and I've just taught an intensive English course to a load of blokes I last taught in August and not one of them noticed, so I'm clearly not that obviously pregnant now either at 26 weeks.

Don't worry, if anyone says anything tell them that yes your bump is very neat.

laurielou nope - I think I am average-ish - 5 ft 3 and was just under 10 stone when i got pregnant...
I shall have to start wearing leggings and tight tshirts just to prove a point Shock

Gold, I hate to say this but I think they probably just thought you were eating too much chocolate over Christmas! Grin. Or they suspect, but are too scared to ask in case it is the result of too much chocolate over Christmas!

dont worry, I got a lot of that and this is my first still freaks me out.. stay calm, I had a friend who had a miscarriage and she found the heart monitor a real help for reassurance :-)

A friend who weights about 7 stone did not show more than the tiniest bump at 7 months.

When her baby was born it weighed 9lbs, it is a complete mystery to me where it was hiding.

Ah, don't worry about it.

I was the size of a 3-bed semi and into maternity close by 14 weeks.

My friend hardly showed at all. She went into maternity leave 6 weeks before she was due with a tiny bump. Looked like she had been eating to many cream cakes, but not pregnant.

We both had healthy babies.

Just be careful that you don't overdo it, because you don't look very pregnant. Friend found it hard to get support from colleagues because she wasn't showing much, they kept forgetting.

Oh and when I was 8 months pregnant the comments at work ranged from 'cor blimey, you sure you aren't having twins' to 'you don't even look 3 months'!.

Fattening up with ice cream a truly wonderful idea. Might follow suit, although this being my third I don't need fattening up Grin.

Oh and come join us on the Jue in June ante-natal, we talk a lot but a great bunch of girls who happily answer all questions :)

Lol!

It's true that I am carrying quite oddly (very low, tranverse lie) but I don't think it looks like the result of Christmas excess.

Given how small I am, I'm really looking forward to telling my students at the beginning of Feb when uni restarts that I'm off on maternity leave.....in 8 weeks. I definitely didn't show at all at the end of last term.

Don't worry at all! I still wasn't showing at 18+ weeks and it's only really since hitting 25 weeks that I look properly pregnant. Not that anyone on the train or bus thinks I do!

I've felt mahuuusive since about week 8, as I was really bloated in the early days and ate so much crap, but it's taken ages to get a genuine bump.

When I was 9 months pregnant with ds I could still wear my normal coat and got elbowed in the stomach on the bus by someone who was irritated that I was taking up too much room - if I wasn't wearing a tight top I didn't really look pregnant, just a bit tubby.

Ds was 7lbs 12 oz and apparently it was down to good stomach muscles (go figure Hmm).

oh i didnt show at all with my first till i was about 24 weeks pregnant! like NOTHING. by god did i make up for it when i got to 34 weeks and just went MASSIVE LOL. DONT WORRY X

I'm 17 weeks with #1 and having the opposite problem - everyone's been telling me I have a bump for weeks now. It's ALL been bloating until very recently, but no-one believes me (including one particularly irritating colleague who told me I was in denial! Shock). I'd say it's now approx 80% bloat and 20% baby, if that.

I bet the people you saw on Google images were either walking hot air balloons like me, or had perhaps just eaten too much Ben and Jerrys...

Sorry about your MMC, I hope your bump 'pops' very soon and you can enjoy showing it off!

(I'm quite curious about the popping thing - do you just wake up one morning with a huge bump, I wonder?!)

aww try not to worry, everyones different, with ds i was showing from 3 months, but was teeny when i gave birth at 42 weeks i looked about 4 months preg. now im 26+1 with number 2 (due in april) and i havent even got a bump really, i can tell i look abit fuller but to others i dont look pregnant at all, and im only really skinny they say your supposed to show earlier with your 2nd and if your slim you show earlier, but im proof that isnt nessaceraly true. were just all different. you will be fine :)

SerenaJoy that's literally what happened to me. I reckon your stomach muscles go 'fuck this' and part ways.

Amusingly I popped after 2 weeks of not going to the gym. Go figure...
