Pregnancy insomnia- anyone else suffering?

What with heartburn and restless legs (and arms), I have so far managed a grand total of 1.5 hours sleep so far tonight and I went to bed at 9pm. So many nights I end up in tears because I can't sleep and during the day poor old DD doesn't get to do much because I'm too exhausted to get off the sofa. DH is being brilliant at taking her out but I need sleep!

Am suffering from steroid induced insomnia :( Just wanted to add my sympathy even though not preg! Hope we both get some sleep soon

EauRouge · 01/01/2011 04:26

Good luck! I just tried again but no cigar. DD will be waking up in a couple of hours Hmm

Have had it since the beginning- literally since two weeks after conception, had restless legs for months painful and uncomfortable, then started iron supplements which cured the legs but I still have terrible insomnia.

Went on holiday and spent hours each night Reading, cross legged on the bathroom floor so not to wake dh.

Awake now and just about to iplayer eastenders.... Sometimes catch up on chores/ ironing, sometimes watch tv/ iplayer for hours. It's lonely, boring, frustrating, doctor can't give you anything for it, nothing like yoga/exercise etc makes any difference - I am just counting the days until the birth (60) to hopefully start some kind of deep sleep again.

It's my first so god only knows how you cope with this being your second - all I cam offer is all anyone can offer me which is sympathy and understanding

EauRouge · 01/01/2011 05:00

It sucks, doesn't it? I got it the first time around too and people used to say that it was my body preparing for the sleep deprivation for when the baby arrived which was not only a very annoying thing to say but turned out to be total crap- we co-slept so I got loads of sleep including some very long lie-ins. Hopefully it will be the same for you!

hi fellow sleepless peeps,i have 31 days left and until 3 days ago was sleeping well,i now seem to wake up around 5 and my mind immediately starts to race.I guess its insomnia cos im not uncomfortable,i found reading for a bit sent me back off to sleep but i got up today cos dh has work at 7 and we had alate night,im not even feeling tired in the day tbh.

BabyValentine · 01/01/2011 05:44

Right here with you! Heartburn and a relentless cough at 34 weeks. Driving me mad - and making for a very unfortunate bedfellow - poor DH!

EauRouge · 01/01/2011 05:51

Hi Ledkr! 31 days, wow Shock I can't believe how quickly time has flown. 48 days for me

BabyValentine, are you on the February 2011 thread?

Morning ladies! Just seen this thread - been watching ER from 4am pretty much regularly these past few weeks.

Sweep booked in ten days, then hopefully the lack of sleep will be for a more worthwhile reason! :o

giraffesCantGoFirstFooting · 01/01/2011 06:17

Hi am still up. About to watch corrie on iplayer. Have watched 6 episodes of friends. My brains awake awake awake and my body is exhausted.

ledkrsbellyislikesantas · 01/01/2011 06:25

i think it maybe to do with slowing down, cos when i broke my ankle a few yrs ago i couldnt sleep and always sleep well if have been to the gym.The last few weeks i have had a cold and what with xmas i have virtually slowed down to a crawl.I am really not that tired tbh and have even been staying awake till past midnight!
Are any of you getting worried something will go wrong now?I keep worrying that i have "got this far" and it will be snatched away!Maybe thats why i wake up??

EauRouge · 01/01/2011 06:43

I'm worrying, I've been avoiding my SiL like the plague because she's one of those women that will spend her whole pregnancy watching Babies at Risk on Sky and then telling everyone stories about things that have gone wrong Hmm She's already told me one horror story this pregnancy and that's been enough for me not to phone her again. If I was in a more charitable mood I'd say it was hormonal but she's just bonkers.

Good morning! I'm not as bad as some of you but my sleep is definitely all over the place. Have had this all through my pregnancy. Didn't happen last time till about 35 weeks. Hopefully this baby will sleep more than DD does Grin

ThisIsYourSong · 01/01/2011 11:56

Eurgh, I'm another one! I had sinusitis for about a month and found sleeping really difficult, and the sleeping hasn't improved since then (although sinuses have). I agree that worrying is keeping me up. We're moving back to New Zealand in a few weeks and there is a lot to think about. I'm also worried about the birth (trying for a VBAC) and breastfeeding! I wish I could just switch off but I can't seem to. About 11pm I get really awake and that's it, I'm up and down all night.

I feel such a terrible mother and wife. DTs are 14 months and not walking yet, so carrying them around is hard. I feel too tired to get out of the house some days and it really affects them although they are brilliant. DH is doing so much which is great but then I feel guilty about that too!

Sorry for the depressing post!

CardyMow · 01/01/2011 13:53

I have got 15 days left. Where the heck did that go?? The insomnia is driving me barmy now, I can't get to sleep at all until 2am, am waking up at 6am, then I'm needing at least one nap during the day, sometimes two! Which is a bit difficult considering it's the school holidays, and I have 3 dc at home that are busy trying to kill each other!

Thankfully DP is off today, DD (12yo) has gone out to her friends' house, DS1 (8yo) is due back from Ex-H's in the next hour, DS2 (7yo) is watching Handy Manny on Playhouse Disney. When DP gets back from doing the shopping, I'm going back to bed for a bit! (In my defence, DP did have a massive lay in until 12 today, while I was up at 6!)

Bumperlicious · 01/01/2011 14:45

I had it really badly throughout my pregnancy. Two things helped: sleeping tablets which I begged my dr for (though not to be taken too close to EDD) and going to bed later rather than earlier, honestly that really helped.

flowerfairy · 01/01/2011 15:39

I was just about to start a thread on this. LAst night was one of the worst. HAd been to new year's eve party and didn't get home until 4am! Felt tired as we left the party and thought sleep would just come as soon as my head hit the pillow into bed. But alas I tried and tried, pillow between knees and under bump one side then the other. Sit up with many cushions behind me. Meanwhile DH is snoring his head off next to me probably due to large amount of alcohol consumed , lucky him! Just couldn't drop off. DS was sleeping at in-laws so even tried sleeping in his bed to no avail. Went back to our bed, then go downstairs to pace around and i think it was 5.30 when i eventually dropped off, then woke every hour for a wee. I still have 8 weeks to go. I don't remember being like this with ds at all.
HAve tried going to bed later than normal which helps sometimes, if i haven't nodded off for half an hour on the settee in the meantime. Am going to have a bath and read for a while tonight. It's not filling me with confidence for returning to work next week though. My eyes feel like p*holes in the snow and i just want to go to sleep. Can't even nod off on the settee today, my body just won't seem to let go.
SOrry rant over now. Good luck for a successful nights sleep everyone.

autumnberry · 01/01/2011 18:43

Yes, it does suck. I still haven't come up with a solution. Being tired in the day is the worst thing as it limits the amount you can get done. Best of luck to everyone tonight.

EauRouge · 01/01/2011 19:40

I'm going to have a soak in the bath tonight too and hope that it will relax me. I would say that it's nice that I'm not alone but I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

sighs Anyone else awake? Lack of being able to sleep is driving me insane. Anyone doing anything interesting whilst wide awake? Smile

8 weeks to go..!!

websticks · 02/01/2011 06:00

I have slept a total of 2 hours tonight, i am 11 days over due and so uncomfortable at night, bump is really big, restless leg and i keep getting hot flushes. Being induced tomorrow so hopefully tonight is my last night of no sleep! I wish!

Tarlia · 02/01/2011 06:17

Good luck with your induction. How exciting, you will meet your baby before long! Do you know which flavour you are having?

nomoreheels · 02/01/2011 06:18

Yep, I have it too. First trimester I could get off to sleep but woke at 3 am & couldn't get back to sleep.

It's settled a bit now (am 18 wks) but I woke at 5 am today & no chance of dozing off again!

Thank god for my ipod touch is all I can say. I use it to have a mooch on the internet when I can't sleep.

ledkr · 02/01/2011 10:29
