How much a sweep hurts??

I had one when I was almost 2 weeks o/d with 2nd and it really didn't hurt at all as I remember it, or if it did it didn't last long. Also did the trick - was in labour the following night....doc said I was almost ready to go anyway.

If you mean how much induction hurts, can't really help you there.

Best of luck anyway

pie · 01/10/2003 15:34

Well I think that they will start with a sweep and then an induction if that doesn't work. But yes I was asking about the sweep.

I'll be 38 weeks though. Oh the nerves.

lazyeye · 01/10/2003 15:48

No, sweep is fine - just a bit uncomfortable, like a smear. I hope it does the trick for you pet. I remember after I had the sweep I went for particularly robust session of shopping with my mum - lots of walking & hey presto went into labout that night...so you could hit the shops.

All the very best pet.

So ... no more Pie! Good news about her baby isn't it? Check out the birth announcements if you missed the news! If you check up on this thread Pie, just wanted to say that although I am delighted you had your baby, I will miss you lots
Hilary ... Hewlettsdaughter ... bunny2 ... keep posting .... it's just us now!
23 weeks now ... coming up for 24 - where is the time going? Had a tough week last week - DH was away for the whole week and DS was on Kindy holidays so there was no let up and when DH isn't here I don't sleep ... I go to bed really late - lie there imagining each little creak is a mad axe murderer trying to get in - then eventually fall asleep at 1am to be woken by DS at 5 every morning.
We did have a nice time away with our friends although 5 children aged 2 - 5 cooped up in a small holiday cottage (peeing with rain outside) for 3 days was a challenge!! No 10 mile hikes thank goodness (on account of the weather) but a morning at the swings was enough to convince me that I seriously need to get my midwife onto referring me to a physio ... SDP is ok and manageable when I don't do too much but any light exertion causes me to be in agony for the rest of the day....
M/W coming tomorrow am so will talk to her about it.

Hilary · 06/10/2003 18:38

Sounds like you do need to talk to her Ghosty, you have a long way to go if you are in this amount of pain already.

I am plodding on as usual, trying to keep up with two boys, school runs, potty training etc. Doing ok pregnancy-wise at the moment, now I have had the scan I have relaxed a lot, and I can feel the baby moving now too which is reassuring. So, on the whole, don't feel too bad.

Just off to check out birth announcements...

hana · 07/10/2003 13:15

Hello ladies, haven't read much of this thread.......but think I'll be catching up - I've just tested positive! Am absolutely thrilled!!

We lost a baby in June. Didn't have a m/c - my scan at 13 weeks showed a very sick fetus and we were told the baby wouldn't survive very much longer...could have waited for a spontaneous m/c or a 'medical' termination, and decided upon the later. We've since found out that that baby had Down's Syndrome. My first pregnancy resulted in a m/c, that was 3 years ago, and I have a 2 year old dd.
Am full of lots of different feelings right now, but the overriding one at the moment is absolute joy!

M2T · 07/10/2003 13:22

Oh congratulations Hana - and fingerscrossed for you this time.

hewlettsdaughter · 07/10/2003 19:02

Hana, that's great news! You must have gone through a very difficult time in June. Welcome to this thread. Ghosty - how did your chat with the midwife go? I am doing ok, still very tired (go to bed early and sometimes sleep in the afternoon at weekends). We are having an extension built on our house and have to discuss bathroom designs etc but never seem to find time to do it!

bunny2 · 07/10/2003 20:09

Congratulations Hana. Welcome.

Ghosty, dh spent Friday night in London and I stayed up all night convinced every noise was a gunman coming in to get me and ds who was snoozing next to me all night. Even at my age I cant sleep on my own, what a coward. Hope you fel ok right now, keeping the SDP under control.

My scan is next week at 12.4 I think. I am quite worried about it, no reason to be but when I read sad storeid such as Hanas, it reminds me it is not necessarily all plain sailing from here.

Welcome Hana ... I remember reading about your problems in June so I am really pleased to see you back again ... lots of hugs and best wishes for this pregnancy for you {{{}}}
My midwife appointment went well ... she said straight away, when I told her about the SPD, that there was no time to waste and she would send off my referral to the physio immediately. She told me not to do anything too strenuous in the meantime as exercise will make it worse ... I told her about our mate Pie and she said that she had heard of that happening but thankfully it was rare!
Heard the baby's heartbeat again and she (the m/w) made me feel good because she said that I looked fantastic and not huge at all ... although I do feel like a whale - that is probably because I always have to work hard to keep slim and so pregnancy is a green light for all that lard to stick to my bottom!!!
So ... all well in the Ghosty household ... DH's birthday to day and I have baked a chocolate cake ... my friend gave me the recipe and when she made it for me it was to die for ... if it turns out well I will post it on M/N for all those chocoholics out there.
Bunny2 ... lol at you being like me without your DH ... I really am a big baby when I am on my own .... need to get a grip!

pie · 12/10/2003 06:56

Hey Ghosty, don't worry I'm still around, haven't abandoned you!!

How is the SPD now? Can you get a referral to an osteopath?

Bunny, how did the scan go? Hilary, you must feel good with babe moving, its so reassuring isn't it?

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping.it.together!!

Ghosty · 12/10/2003 09:45

Pie ... Hellooooooooo! How are you feeling now? Are you feeling better????? How is young Anastacia?
SPD is ok - ish ... I walked down to our local shops yesterday (half a mile) and back and was pretty sore afterwards ... so today I have done diddly squat and it is not too bad. But I am having some back problems too on top of that so when I am sore it is SPD and lower back and hip pain at the same time ...
I hate sitting around and not doing anything though ...
I forgot to ask the m/w about the osteopath ... I will see how the physio goes and take it from there....
Bunny ... how was the scan, or is it next week?
Hope everyone else is ok ...

bunny2 · 12/10/2003 17:35

Hi, scan on Tuesday, thanks for asking. I'll let you know the (hopefully) good news then. Tomorow the midwife is going to listen for a heartbeat so I may have some reassurance then, or maybe I'll just panic even more if she cant hear anything. Fingers crossed.

Ghosty · 12/10/2003 19:46

Bunny .... will be thinking of you tomorrow ... keep us posted won't you??

bunny2 · 12/10/2003 21:15

I have just started to bleed, very lightly but it'sdefinately there. ALmost exactly 2 yrs ago the same happened and the following scan confirmed my fears. Cant believe it's happening again and am desperate for reassurance but where can I get it at 9.00 on a Sunday night. Dh is sending me to bed now so I'll go and pray that the bleeding stops by morning. . Bugger. I'mso worried, how can I sleep?

OP posts:
Ghosty · 12/10/2003 21:19

Oh Bunny ... I am so sorry ... I wish I could say something to set your mind at rest. As many mumsnetters have said in the past bleeding does not always mean the worst ... but I know how upset and worried I would be.
Try to get some sleep ... and ring your Early Pregnancy Unit or Midwife first thing in the morning ... Let us know how you are ... Hugs {{{}}}

pie · 12/10/2003 21:47

Bunny, I too am sorry to hear that you are bleeding, I hope that you can get some reassurance first thing tomorrow. Rest as much as you can.

I will be thinking of you

Ghosty · 12/10/2003 23:58

Bogwoppit ... welcome! and congratulations on your pregnancy! I have found this thread (this is the third one!!) really useful and it is nice to chat to others who are pregnant but have had an m/c in the past so they know about the worries and concerns ...
How many weeks do you think you are?

Ghosty · 13/10/2003 09:54

Bunny .... How are you this morning????

hewlettsdaughter · 13/10/2003 19:46

Hi, welcome Bogwoppit. Bunny, did you see your midwife today? I saw mine last week and she tried to listen for the heartbeat but couldn't pick it up - too early, I think. You have a scan booked for tomorrow don't you? I have everything crossed for you.

bunny2 · 13/10/2003 20:04

Thanks for the messages but I already know I had a missed abortion, the foetus died at 9+4. I go in tomorrow to have the contents removed. Too numb to say more really.

Ghosty · 13/10/2003 20:09

Oh Bunny ... I am so sorry. That is exactly what happened to me when I had my m/c last year ... but for it to happen twice for you is just terrible.
I am sending lots of cyber hugs and am thinking of you {{{{{}}}}}

pie · 13/10/2003 20:34

Oh Bunny. My heart and hugs go out to you. Please know that we are all here should you ever need us.
