Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hilary · 19/09/2003 17:41

Oh pie, that sounds just awful! When I still had morning sickness, my youngest son waited until my husband had gone out before choking on a carrot and bringing up the whole of his tea. Not only that, but the position of him meant that he covered both settees, large proportion of floor, several toys, cushions etc. Couldn't have been standing in a worse place...had to clean the whole lot up, bath him etc on my own. I nearly added to the pile a couple of times, I can tell you!

Anyway, my appointment today went well though she couldn't listen for the heartbeat as she didn't have the right equipment with her! 'Er, Hello, you're a midwife just started a day at work!' Anyway, everything else was fine and only 10 days until my next scan now...

pie · 19/09/2003 17:50

Hilary, thats crazy, will you be seeing this m/w at every appointment. Maybe you should give her reminder calls to check she has the right equipment!!

Hilary · 19/09/2003 18:25

Daft, isn't it? I don't know whether she will be there every time or not as this is the first time (at 17 weeks) that I have been to my normal surgery for an appointment, having been everywhere else instead.

bunny2 · 19/09/2003 19:44

Oh Hillary, how bloomin' disappointing. Bad luck.

Pie, what a terrible day but your account made me smile.

Hi all, hope you are ok and having better days (Pie, especially). I have been on hols for a week. Had a good time, although first trimester not the best time to travel, I think. I ducked out of a couple of trips and went to bed early. Have been feeling very tired and also 'off' (nauseous). Wanted to feel symptoms earlier but they're not much fun, are they... I don't remember feeling like this in my first pregnancy. They do say they are all different, I suppose. I'm 9 weeks now.

Ghosty · 20/09/2003 21:17

HD ... where'd you go?
Although I had similar symptoms in my first pregnancy I seemed to cope better with them. I think that it is a whole new ball game when you already have a child or toddler. I feel much more tired than I did first time around ... I think it must be that I don't have the chance to rest like I did with DS ...
Have you got a 12 week scan booked? Not long to go now if you have!!

hewlettsdaughter · 21/09/2003 19:26

We were in Ireland. Managed a day on a fantastic beach - big expanse of sand, sea with big waves to jump over, rock pools, limpets, crabs etc. Highlight of the week I think.
Don't have a 12 week scan booked but will be asking about scans when I ring up to arrange my booking-in appointment soon. Not much early pregnancy care here

Ghosty · 21/09/2003 21:08

I've never been to Ireland ... I would love to go one day ... I hear it is beautiful ... But then I live in NZ and it's pretty gorgeous here too!!
I am seriously having the start of SPD now ... though not as bad a poor Pie ... there was a fete type thing at the local ... um ... want to say farm but it isn't a farm ... nor is it a park ... more a Nature reserve/farm with rare breeds type place. I had offered to do an hour stint on the Kindergarten fundraising stall (selling hotdogs/sweets/drinks etc) so DH, DS and I set off to walk the 2 miles there. It pi$$ed with rain (got totally soaked) - my hour turned into 2 as no-one turned up to relieve me - and then we walked the 2 miles back in the pouring rain again. I then spent the rest of the afternoon lying on the sofa because my 'nunney' was soooooo sore ... felt like I had been kicked in the fanny by a horse!
Feels a bit better today after a good nights sleep (DS finally slept through hurrah!) but will it get worse? I really need and want to do some exercise but will that exacerbate the problems? Pie? What do you think? SPD didn't start until about 34 weeks with DS and by then I wasn't doing much by way of exercise anyway ... but if I have to go through the next 19 weeks not doing anything I will be HUUUUUGE!

pie · 21/09/2003 22:10

Ghosty...noooo...please be ok!!!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but my SPD kicked in at 12 weeks, was on crutches by 17 weeks and finally wheelchair at 22 week. So I'm afraid it is possible.

The thing that I should have done is not pushed it in the beginning, I thought that it wouldn't get worse so I didn't cut back as much as I needed to, until it was too late.

Have you go access to a physio, just for things like a support belt and tubigrip.

Act now!!!

pupuce · 21/09/2003 22:35

Ghosty - SPD sensations started from week 2 for me (that's how I knew I was pregnant!!!!) and got bad (i.e. limping) from 12 weeks. At 20 weeks went to see an osteopath as I was starting to be in agony - he did wonders (had to see him every 2 weeks)! At 36 weeks (baby's head dropped) and I was basically bed bound.
I would keep your legs together ! Be careful about your choice of exercise. I think if your joints are getting too lax your muscles take over so generally I can't see benefits in exercising as you will put a lot of strain on your body. One of the problems I had was that after my labour I was in agony from inflammed muscles !

pie · 21/09/2003 22:44

Just to agree with pupuce, be very careful about your choice of exercise. I would recommend swimming...the weightlessness really gave relief. I had to give it up though as it got to painful to get to and in and out of the pool.

Ghosty · 22/09/2003 03:15

Bugger ...
I have just been round the shops with DS to get a few bits and was walking (or should I say waddling) like I did at 8months pg last time ...
I remember having to stop swimming at that point with DS as I couldn't do breast stroke legs ...
Oh what an a*se this is! Why can't I be like other pg mums I see around who are a)thin ... b) tiny little bump and c)going on power walks etc ...
Feel like a wimp!!!
Ho hum ... will keep focussing on the end product ... that is why I am doing this after all ... and will try hard not to moan as there are lots of people worse off than me ... (like Pie for example ... sorry schweetie ... and people who are still ttc after months/years etc) ... I don't like to moan, but it is good to have MN to do that.
The good news is that I can be referred to a physio ... will take it easy in the next two weeks and will talk to my m/w about it when I next see her (in two weeks) ... if it gets worse in the mean time I will give her a ring.
Thanks for your advice Pie and Pupuce ... really appreciate it ...

pupuce · 22/09/2003 09:52

Ghosty - IMO osteo is better than physio... and Honeybunny (who use to post) is a physio, she had SPD and saw an osteopath... says a lot I think

hewlettsdaughter · 28/09/2003 19:16

Hi, how's everyone doing? Pie, Ghosty, splash, preggers... have just read you have a scan soon Hilary, good luck!
Feeling a bit rough myself (tired, sick etc etc). It's quite hard pretending I'm fine at work too (haven't told most people I'm pregnant yet). Hoping it will get better soon...

pie · 29/09/2003 12:55

Hewlettsdaughter, how many weeks are you now? Hope you don't feel rough for much longer

I'm trying to get my head round that, as I'm going to be induced, this time next week I will either have my baby or be in labour. I have concentrated so much on staying pregnant and then getting through each day as its been such a disaster that I never saw far enough ahead to the actual baby being here. Does that sound stupid?

I can't walk now, I can only shuffle about 3 meters before having to give up completely. I have visions of having the baby and then breakdancing Ok I know thats not going to happen but I can dream.

I weighed myself today for the first time since my 14 week check and I've lost 2kgs.

If my bump has been getting bigger (which it has) then the baby is ok isn't she? I mean its just me thats losing out...feeling really unconfident today!!

bunny2 · 29/09/2003 20:51

Pi,e you are so close now! I imagine your pg has really dragged but only a few more days to go now. Good luck with the induction.

Ghosty · 29/09/2003 21:03

Oh Pie ... so ironic that you can't eat when you have this nickname .... definitely 'Who didn't eat all the pies!!"
I think that if your baby was suffering from your malnourishment then you would have been in hospital by now on a drip surely? The thing is that babies are parasites ... they take what they need from mum and it is poor mum that suffers .... I think your little one will be fine ...
I wish I could give you some of the kgs that I have gained ... I refuse to weigh myself but I have put on tons and tons and tons ... the only thing that doesn't look fat is my face.
Only a week to go now honey ... I don't think I have ever been so looking forward to a birth announcement!!!!!
HD ... remind me how many weeks you are now? In fact ... everyone on this thread, if you could just post your due dates? Pregnancy brain has taken over and I can't remember anything at the moment
I am fine ... 22 and a half weeks now ... no more sickness ... uncomfortable with SPD ... had my hair done yesterday which really lifted my spirits ... feeling knackered as DH is away for a week and because I am a woosy la la when I am on my own I am going to bed far to late and not getting much sleep ...
DS and I are going away on Thursday till Sunday to a lovely coastal spot in NZ with two other families - bit worried as they are not pg and very fit and healthy 'Let's go for a 10 mile hike' types and I will have to be the party pooper and not do that sort of stuff ...
Anyway ... too much boring blurb for you all so will stop now

hewlettsdaughter · 30/09/2003 19:38

Hi Pie, not much longer for you to wait! I like the idea of you breakdancing after the birth . Babies are very resilient - try not to worry about whether she's ok (Ghosty's right, they would have you on a drip if they were worried).
I will be 11 weeks this Thurs. Today I organised my booking-in appointment with one of the midwives attached to my GP practice - it will be a week on Thurs ie when I'm exactly 12 weeks. I'm still feeling 'off', looking forward to getting past this bit. Have a good trip, Ghosty!

Hilary · 30/09/2003 21:52

Hi all,

Keep going pie, it's nearly over now.

I have reached 18.5 weeks and have had a lovely scan which not only showed us everything was fine but what sex we are having. We are pleased to know but aren't telling anyone!

My due date is officially 29th February but the scan said 26th and I know the baby won't arrive until halfway through March!

janh · 30/09/2003 22:28

But you might be lucky and get a Leap Year baby, then it only has to have a birthday party once every 4 years!

Ghosty · 30/09/2003 23:38

Hilary ... so glad that all is well ... I have been wondering how you were ... you must be feeling all at one with everything now ...

pie · 01/10/2003 07:51

Glad to hear you have such a lovely scan Hilary.

HewlettsDaughter, I hear that most women feel better in their second trimester, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you feel better soon.

Ghosty, make sure that your DH takes your DS off your hands then you can just take it easy whilst he does the 10 mile bike ride

pie · 01/10/2003 07:51

bike = hike...been awake far too long!!

Katherine · 01/10/2003 11:19

Pie - I was just wondering when you were due and see that you will have your baby NEXT WEEK! You are nearly at the finishing line. Congratulations. Must feel like this has been going on forever. I hope all your problems resolve after the delivery and will be watching the birth announcements avidly from now on.

Ghosty - past the half way mark. Hugs

Everyone else - hugs too!

pie · 01/10/2003 15:20

Hi Katherine Forever just about covers it!

I'm gettin really nervous about tomorrow morning. I will probably have a sweep before a formal induction. Anyone gonna tell me how much they hurt?
