MuffinMouse · 26/11/2010 22:24

I haven't found a recent thread for older mums. I am 39 and expecting DC3.

Are there any other 'older mums' out there?

How are you feeling?

Almost 40, expecting twins v shortly!

ckny1 · 27/11/2010 10:35

Hi MM, I just turned 40 and am in my 25th week. For the most part have felt excellent these past months, healthier than ever due to my persistent diet and exercise. But perhaps things like fibroids and blood pressure, which younger mums may not be susceptible to, are on the radar for me. I've just been sticking to organic meats & dairy for the fibroids, and loads of grapefruit and garlic for the bp (don't know if any of it works...)

Also, I wonder whether my lack of understanding of ANY of the acronyms is is the biggest sign of my age! :)

Take care, everyone!!!

MrsFC · 27/11/2010 11:02

I'm in my 32nd week and have also just turned 40. I have a 7 yr old DS1, and I'm SO much more tired and achey this time round, although Ive put on much less weight, which is pleasing me!

It's DP's first child, and I'm wondering whether he's going to want another one, not sure I'd have the energy TBH!!

Oh oven, the 2WW is so stressful, keep us updated!!

DuelingFanio · 27/11/2010 11:18

I am 40 and expecting an IVF baby in 2 weeks, have a feeling it will be late. It's my first and I feel incredibly lucky.

brokeoven good luck for the 2ww, I know how it feels.

Southsearocks · 27/11/2010 14:26

My first at 40 too and like DuelingFanio feel very very lucky and excited! Good luck to you all, I'm sure there must be benefits to being maturer mums!

strawberriesncream · 27/11/2010 20:02

Hello everyone! I'm 39 and I'm 24 weeks with DC2.

Goodluck with 2ww Brokeoven!

Wow Bagofholly hope it all goes well. Are they your first?

mejon · 27/11/2010 20:46

42 with DC2 due in 8 weeks. Feeling a bit achey at the moment - no idea if it is the baby's position (was breech at latest scan this week) or my fibroids giving me jip. Sneezing/coughig/blowing my nose is absolute agony but the area of the pain moves about which makes me suspect it is the position. No other problems apart from that - though hoping there won't be snow in mid-January for me to worry about.

DrSeuss · 27/11/2010 21:41

Nearly forty, 17 weeks. So tired!

MrsFC · 27/11/2010 21:45

I'm spotting a definite 'tired' theme!!

BadMutha · 27/11/2010 22:01

Hi Everyone!
I'm 43 on Tues and 13 weeks gone with "surprise" #3. DS and DD are 10 and 7 respectively and live with their father: all fairly amicable for now but no idea what's going to happen when I have to tell him. Def leaving that until after Xmas!
as for how i'm feeling; well it's just been delight-free so far. Constant nausea and overwhelming tiredness, SPD since week 10, just got promotion I had been working towards for 3 years so feeling crappy about that. Sorry to whinge, esp when I know some are so keen to be pregnant, just I'm not very good at it. And Surprise's father currently lives 150 miles from me, so having to do a lot of life reorganisation too.
well, have got that off my chest and will try to post more perkily henceforth Blush. Best wishes to all!

moirasings · 28/11/2010 05:51

40 and 30 weeks with no 3. DD and DS are 8 and 11. Much more tired and achy this time around, also problems putting weight on because I'm too tired to eat!

Prinpo · 28/11/2010 09:13

Hello, I'm 39 and newly pregnant with DC3. Smile

DDs are 8 and 5 and the thing I'm worrying about most is the big age gap. This was a planned baby - it's just taken a long time to happen (mcs along the way). Still, my reasoning is that you get what you're given and it all works out.

Definitely feeling the tiredness. Also, wondering how I'll fare with the nights at the grand old age of 40 Confused.

Above all, though, I just feel really, really lucky. I was beginning to reconcile myself to the idea that it wasn't going to happen for us this time round so I'm just delighted to be pregnant.

mslucy · 28/11/2010 11:36

hello, I'm 40 and 17 weeks with DC3.

Bit of a shock as DS2 took years to come and this one was conceived 2 weeks after a mc and about 2 days after 40th birthday Wink.

With the rest of you all on the tiredness - sooooooo knackered. Like the living dead at times.

Not sure if that is pg or life - 2 boys (one 5, one nearly 2) plus work (I'm self employed and do teaching and writing/research for TV) and studying (doing a part time PGCE).

I have a tendency to spread myself too thin - naturally a bit hyper and get bored and depressed if I'm not busy.

Worried loads about risks of being an older mum (Downs etc) but came back from hospital on Friday and was told my test results would be normal for a woman of 28!!!

ng1412 · 28/11/2010 15:56

heya, i am 41 in three weeks (yikes) and 16 weeks with my first following m/c earlier this year. very tired, very hormonal and feeling very old!!

mslucy · 28/11/2010 16:56

ng you are so not old.
a woman I know had her first at 47 and the consultant I saw at the hospital said she had delivered a woman of 50.

katherine2008 · 28/11/2010 17:44

Hi, I'm 40 and 9 weeks with dc2 - like everyone just feel exhausted and emotional!... looking forward to getting scary nuchal test over and one with.. and then it's christmas time! Amazingly hardly any nausea this time, was sick as a dog with dd1.. good luck everyone!

katherine2008 · 28/11/2010 17:45

oops - over and done with not one with..

bonnymiffy · 29/11/2010 10:18

I am 42 and 13 weeks with DC1... what the HELL am I doing????

Stangirl · 29/11/2010 10:38

I am 41 and 7 weeks with DC2. Had DD earlier this year. I have found being an older Mum completely brilliant and it has energised me. My Stepmum (who had her daughter in the 60s when she was a teenager) says that having a child later on means you appreciate them more - every little developmental step DD takes I am in awe of whereas my stepmum said she just wanted her daughter to hurry up and grow and be less hassle. I do find pregnancy a bit annoying and tiring but I've been a lazy cow all my life and I don't think I would have been much different in my 20s.

Hersetta · 29/11/2010 10:42

I am 40 and 5 weeks with DC2. Got my BFP last week. Feeling fine at the moment.

JBrd · 29/11/2010 11:13

I'm a month short of 39 and 17 weeks pg with DC1. I can relate to the 'What the hell am I doing?!' feeling, but now that the sickness has stopped, I feel almost normal again!

mamacorner · 29/11/2010 12:50

I'm 40 and 30 weeks with my DC3.My other DC's are 10 & 11. Bigger gap than I'd have chosen but we're all so excited about the new baby on it's way..I have found this pregnancy much more hard work, physically & emotionally. The tiredness is horrendous and I wander if I'll ever have my usual energy level again, coping with a newborn as I feel right now could be a challenge but I can't wait!!
Thankfully the DC's are old enough to help me out a bit, and since they are at school all day and I'm self employed and work from home, I can indulge myself with blissfull afternoon naps & checking out MN with my feet up and a cuppa!
