Hi - i'm 8 weeks pregnant and having pains in my lower abdomen (sp) which started this morning after going to the toilet. I have called my out of hours surgery and they've arranged for me to have an internal scan on Monday. I just wanted some reassurance over the weekend that this is normal? I had the same with dd but am now very anxious that something is wrong. Thanks for listening to me go on X

Mandymoo - sorry you are going through this. I had bleeding and cramping with both ds and dd - and it all turned out fine - fingers crossed it will be the same for you. If it gets worse I would call back out of hours but I don't suppose there is much they can do until you get the scan. Thinking of you.

Dont lose hope - Im 25 weeks pg npw and had a big bright red bleed which was so painful I nearly passed out at 8 weeks - amazingly heartbeat was still there on scan, kept bleeding till 13 weeks then nothing else
good luck

Thanks Zippy - they said just to take it easy over the weekend (yeah right! with a 2.8yr old? some chance!!. They said if i was going to miscarry there is absolutely nothing i can do about it anyway. So i guess i will just have to wait until Monday for the scan. Thanks for your reply X

hereshopping - thanks for your reply. I'm trying so hard not to think the worst because i had this with dd at 7 weeks.

Thinking of you Mandymoo and hoping it all goes well for you at the scan this morning. I know several people who have had the same and all gone on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy full term babies but you must feel worried. Big hugs to you from me and all of your pals on May ante-natal site. Let us know how you get on.

Hi all

Well i had my scan this morning - had a few scary moments when they told me that they could see the pregnancy sac but couldnt see a foetus . Was told that i needed to come back in 2 weeks (2 weeks?!!!!) for a second scan. Was feeling very but just as we were ending the scan, he managed to find a nice healthy foetus with heart beating! Cannot tell you how relieved i was/am that it showed up and that i didnt have a hellish 2 week wait. I was so relieved i didnt even ask what could have caused the pain etc! I guess it couldnt have been anything too serious or they would have told me.

Anyway, got booking in appt with midwife on Friday. According to today's scan i'm only 7 weeks (not 8 as i thought).

Thanks for all your support and i hope all you guys are ok X

Oh, wow! Congratulations! Look after yourself, and that amazing little one! Bet he or she loves playing hide and seek in a couple of years' time!

Mandymoo · 19/09/2005 15:11

Thanks HM - I am STILL breathing a HUGE sigh of relief. Could not have waited 2 whole weeks before knowing.
X

HI can anyone help I am 10+5weeks and have just found some brown discharge I am now very worried, can any one offer me any advice????? this is my fourth pregnancy & it never happened before. Please anyone any words of advice?????

cori · 20/09/2005 17:06

Think you should call midwife/GP ASAP. It might be nothing but have heard that brown discharge can be a sign of an Ectopic pregnancy. Any pain?

JIFDA · 20/09/2005 19:02

No pain just a lot of worry, we have phoned GP & i have a scan booked for 1p.m. tomorrow. But it is a vaginal one doesnt sound too nice, Ive never had one of these kind before, has any one else????

JIFDA - internal scans are not painful at all and there is really nothing to worry about as far as that is concerned. I hope all is well and please let us know how you get on XXX

Without too much info what exactly do they do?????
Has anyone had an outcome with brown discharge as I am worrying myself sick about this?????

cori · 20/09/2005 19:39

Basically it looks like a long thin dildo [embarrassed]. They put a sheath on it and that gel stuff they use for ultrasounds and insert it into the vagina. Usually have an internal as the baby is to small to be seen by a normal ultrasound. Though at 10.5 weeks they might give it a go first.
Honestly it doesnt hurt, have had loads of them myself.
Do you still have the discharge.?

Mandymoo · 20/09/2005 19:40

I had a browny red "spotting" with dd at 7 and 10 weeks. Had internal scans both times and remainder of pregnancy was fine with a healthy girl at the end of it.

Basically (i had one yesterday so its fresh in my mind!!) they let you strip off your bottom half, you lie down with a cushion under your bum. They put a blanket over you to cover your lady bits and then they put some jelly on the end of the probe thing before inserting into you. Believe me, that bit doesnt hurt. It may be slightly uncomfortable at most but it really doesnt hurt

Good Luck X

Yes i do still have discharge, its worrying as you read so many different things about it. I feel very teary 1 minute all is well & the next this happens. I still have no pain & still feel sick. the scan cant come soon enough i just want to know.

JIFDA · 21/09/2005 14:38

Just to let you all know i had my scan this morning & there was a strong heartbeat, i am so releived. Still having a little brown discharge but it isnt coming from my womb, they said it would just be from my cervix stretching. So I can relax again now.

cori · 21/09/2005 16:14

Very good news. I always glad to hear something that coould be worrying turning out to be normal.

Mandymoo · 21/09/2005 18:06

I am 11 weeks and I´ve had browny discharge twice, once 3 weeks ago and then last week for 5 days! Having a scan next week. So.... you are not the only one!! I hope everything is okay for you from now on! Good Luck.

lucykate · 22/09/2005 11:59

with my dd i bled until 23 wks, sometimes brown, sometimes red and had lots of pains too, she's now 3.75. in my case, the placenta had torn away slightly, but bed rest and all was ok
