do taller women make bigger babies?

everytime i go to see my midwife she says my baby is measuring big (i'm 36+5) but it is probably just because i'm tall. I'm 5ft10 which isn't particularly tall, but is it true that taller women make bigger babies?

can anyone speak from experience?

Me- 5ft 10, dd 3.1 kilo (and midwife had told me she would be "colossal" )

My stepmother- 4ft 10, my step-sis 10lb 10oz (in old money)

So, no, taller women do not necessarily make bigger babies. (on the anecdotal evidence of me and my sm!)

I think it's generally thought that taller ladies do make bigger babies, prob just because there is more room!

But I'm 5"1 and my biggest baby was 9lb 4oz so I personally just think it's as likely that a taller lady will have a smaller/average baby too.

I was told the said above 9lber was going to be no more than 7lb too

I'm 5'10 and mine were just over the 4lb mark (I am cheating here though as they were twins and 6 weeks early

They are heads and shoulders above all their classmates though.

That should say that they are twins (as much as they would like to untwin themselves sometimes).

I'm 5"2 and mine were 8lb3.5oz and 9lb4.5oz. My friend is 5"10 and her's were 6lb, 6lb5oz and 7lb. So I would say no!

Im 5'8" & DD was 3.4kg which I think is bang on average for a girl.

My Mum is a couple of inches shorter than me & her babies were all 9.5lb PLUS.

I'm 5ft 11, 32+5 and 2 midwives say the baby is measuring big.

I questioned this and she said it's nothing to worry about as different midwives measure differently (wasn't really sure what that meant TBH ).

But on my 20 week scan I asked if the baby was longer than usual (my DH is 6ft 5) and she said the femur bone was slightly longer than average - so I guess there may be some truth in the that idea taller people have bigger babies.

I'm five foot 2 and size 8/10. My babies were 8lb 10 and 8lb 15. My bumps were v neat and all through my pregnancy people told me I was having tiny babies!!

I'm tall, 6ft, and my DDs were 7lb13 and 8lb4, so not partic heavy. However both on or above 98 percentile for length.

I'm 5ft 10; DD1 7lbs 1oz, DD2 7lbs 2oz and DS1 7lbs 5oz - so I suggest not!

I'm 6ft and DS was 12lb 12oz (and honestly not 'fat' just VERY long), and is now the height of an average 7 year old at 4. He was born at 42+1. Then had DT's who were 5lb11oz and 5lb12oz at 35 weeks. So good weights really for premmie twins. They are only 10 months but also look set to be tall.

I'm 5ft9, babies were 8lb 8oz (DS) and 8lb (DD), so fairly average. Although there was a lot of fretting and extra scans with DD because she was apparently measuring big for dates

My mum is 5ft2 and her largest (and last) baby was well over 10lb.

weegle, how tall is your DS?

I ask as I have a v tall DD, she's 3 and not at all swamped in her age 6 school dresses!

DD 7 lbs 2 oz

If your DH is tall, too, you're unlikely to have tiddlers unless you deliver early.

Tobermory he's about 123cm - well was at the beginning of term but he's just grown out of his trousers again so might have just had another growth spurt! He's also just had his long floppy hair cut so he really does look at least 7 if not older!

My over 6 foot friend had a little 6lb baby, I am 5 ft 6 and had an 8lb baby, the biggest baby I ever saw was my really very small friend who is a bit over 5ft...the tallest/longest baby I ever saw was my 5ft 4 friend but her DH was 6ft 7 and the baby took after him and is now very tall indeed.

I'm 4ft 10 and my oldest daughter was 8lb 1 and my oldest son was 10 pounds.

I am 5ft 9 and my two babies were 9lb5 and 10lb 6oz.

DP is 6ft 3.He was 10lb at birth (I was 7lb ish) and I think that was more a consideration tbh.

Also although my DS was a biggun he was very long (over 60cm's) with a small head and skinnny.

DD's GM was 6' 2" and says all her LOs were around 7lb. This includes DD's father who is 6'6".

Schoolfriend 4'9" had 8.5-9lbers.

I do believe parental birthweights have more of a bearing on this tbh.

haha sounds like it is the small ladies that have big babies!

I'm 5' dd2 was 10lb6oz and incredibly long, she didn't hit the height centiles until she was 6 months old! Dh is very tall though.

5'2" mum of a 9lb 2oz and 8lb 15oz here (dad is 6'4" though).

No I was quite hurt actually because i'm tall and was a size 14 everyone kept harping on about how massive my babies would be and how cute little babies are ie yours won't be.
As it happens my biggest was 8lb 5oz and he looked tiny (and cute).
