Inspired by the fabulous 'first weeks' thread, I have decided to add some TV boxsets to my Christmas list! So far I have only thought of Downton Abbey as have missed the series but hear it was brilliant.

So ladies, and recommendations for bleary eyed, baby brain, bfing viewing!?

Pride and Prejudice series.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes would be among my choices.

themymble · 05/11/2010 11:54

The Wire
It is the best series ever made. Ever.

applecharlotte · 05/11/2010 11:54

House

Gossip Girl (if you're into a bit of trash)

24

Six feet Under

lainey1981 · 05/11/2010 11:55

my friend has given me

The Wire
Dexter
the inbetweeners

SpringHeeledJack · 05/11/2010 11:57

I did Brideshead Revisited

it was great

faverolles · 05/11/2010 11:58

Glee.
No concentration skills required at all.

nymphadora · 05/11/2010 11:58

Dollhouse
Buffy
Angel
Charmed
Scrubs
Just started Roswell but not as hooked.

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 05/11/2010 11:58

The Wire is indeed the best tv series ever, but I found I was more in need of fluffy comedy during the first few weeks. Father Ted, Black Books and Frasier all the way.

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 05/11/2010 11:59

I wouldn't recommend Homicide: Life On The Street, not because it isn't brilliant (it is) but because you will almost certainly end up in a blubbering heap thinking 'why have I brought my baby into such an awful world?'

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/11/2010 12:01

Definitely agree with House. Compulsory veiwing IMO

ER (but skip the birth/baby related ones if feeling fragile)

Can't believe nobody's mentioned the West Wing yet (maybe a bit too much for the early weeks of BFing)

Everybody Loves Raymond is on early on C4, that's always a good one to start the day off

People are going to mock me, but Stargate/Stargate Atlantis are actually very good as well.

FourEyesGood · 05/11/2010 12:07

I've just started my maternity leave and was given the Mad Men season 1 box set. I'm really enjoying it so far, although I've never seen so much smoking! I gave up four years ago but watching Mad Men sort of makes me want a cigarette. Shock

PGWomble · 05/11/2010 12:07

Thanks ladies.

Jareth- I still maintain that West Wing was the best television series of all time- I think bfing is the perfect time to watch the whole lot again!

PGW, sounds like a good idea to me!

On Mat Leave I watched FAR too much CSI/Law & Order/Without a Trace for my sanity. I would not recommend :-p

FindingGuysMojo · 05/11/2010 12:48

Mad Men
Curb Your Enthusiasim
Kath & Kim

Indith · 05/11/2010 13:14

Red Dwarf
Family Guy
Yes Minister/Prime Minister

My first was a very speedy feeder so I relived my childhood and watch The Animals of Farthing Wood in 10 min segments on youtube!

laurenamium · 05/11/2010 18:36

ICantGetMuchSleep · 05/11/2010 18:41

Bones is excellent

Rocklover · 05/11/2010 18:48

The Mentalist, the season 1/2 boxset is out on the 8th of Nov. It is my absolute favourite programme, I would highly recommend it.

gateacre1 · 05/11/2010 18:56

amazon have 70% off box sets at the moment!

I watched Friends and sex and hte city while on my last mat leave, but need some new ideas for the next time round!

FingonTheValiant · 05/11/2010 19:11

Super thread - I've just ordered the complete West Wing and Life on Mars Series 2. And I'm going to get Downton Abbey when it's released.

Rocklover - I'm going to have a look at The Mentalist - I've been meaning to watch it, but was put off by the name, now might be the time.

Thanks all :o

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/11/2010 19:57

Bones is actually quite good, in a ridiculous sort of way.

People - Love Film is your friend! Grin

planner26 · 05/11/2010 20:10

Fringe and True Blood (yep my DC1 is going to come out a bit weird I think!).

Also, just borrowed House off my brother, hoping that's good!

msbossy · 05/11/2010 21:13

House
West Wing

Or get a PVR, sky+ or similar so when you miss all normal tv during the colic hours you can catch up later. Saved my sanity with DD1. Had to quit CSI when I thought she started focusing on the tv gore!

wigglesrock · 05/11/2010 21:18

I second Fringe, Arrested Development, Frasier, An American Office, Entourage, Early Doors.
