I took my mum for one of DS2s scans because DH couldn't make it - she loved it! Also went to a 37 week growth scan alone which was fine.

I went to my first scan on my own...there were loads of other women without their husbands/partners there - in fact, the sonographer was really nice to me and I found it quite a pleasant experience!

KateF · 13/09/2005 19:18

Yes, all of them. Dh does not take time off for non-emergencies!

DelGirl · 13/09/2005 19:18

I had all my scans on my own and it was fine, honest. However, I understand that you'd want your dh there, anyone would, wouldn't they!

MaryBS · 13/09/2005 19:18

I had that many scans that I took my mum one time, and my MIL another time. Sometimes I did go on my own. You probably won't be the only one.

Feel sorry for your DH, because he'll miss it and you won't!

Medea · 13/09/2005 19:18

I think I've only been to baby scans on my own. Maybe dh accompanied me once (I had 2 pregnancies). . .but I don't see it as sad at all.

Can you find a friend to go with you? A good friend of mine is pregnant now and I felt so touched that she invited me to go with her. . .I LOVED watching her little baby move about. . .but god did it make me broody. . .So--yeah, a friend maybe?

SleepySuzy · 13/09/2005 19:18

I had no problems going alone.

dropinthe · 13/09/2005 19:19

My second one-wasn't too bothered but if my first, would be!

Enid · 13/09/2005 19:20

I went to all scans on my own apart from one. I much prefer it actually.

spacecadet · 13/09/2005 19:20

yes i went to my 20 week scan with ds on my own and also went for a baby bond scan with dd on my own, dh was off work that day too, but still wouldnt come!
could you take a friend?

SleepySuzy · 13/09/2005 19:20

Can I come?

I do feel sad for dh as he is going to miss out and i feel it is a special time but not much we can do about that, Yes he did come to the first scan and also tomorrow i will get some pics for him to see.

It's a bit sad as we are finding out the sex if poss and i wanted him to be there when we were told (as it is mainly him who wants to find out) but i suppose i can just call him as soon as i walk out.

I do have a sister who i could invite and am thinking about it but feel its quite a private time and maybe i should just go on my own hmm decisions i don't know, either way i am sure i will be ok, i just wanted to check others have done this and that i will not look like a saddo

Ask them to write the sex down and take an envelope to put it in. Then see if you can wait until he is there to open it.

BunnyBoo · 13/09/2005 19:40

cooperoo - what a fab idea i really like that, But and thats a big BUT i don't think i could wait but i think i will try it anyway and see how far i get! lol

i went to loads on my own. with dd2, dh had admitted to hospital the night before and was fighting for his life basically. he was critical.

with dd3 he made it to the 1st scan, and one fetal cardiac scan at Guys, but the rest i went on my own or took my mum/sister with me.

SoupDragon · 13/09/2005 19:44

I was going to suggest you get them to put the sex in a sealed envelope too. And then be strict with yourself It'll only be a matter of a few hourse afterall.

MarsLady · 13/09/2005 19:47

Yup! And wouldn't you believe it but it's the one that I found out I was having the DTs lmao (now).

I told DH not to waste the day off as he'd been to so many scans and he could come to the next one. Typical!

misdee · 13/09/2005 19:48

PMSL mars, typical isnt it. bet you left feelign shell shocked, how did u tell him? did he belive you?

Eve · 13/09/2005 19:49

been to all of my scans and hospital appointments on my own.

Couldn't understand people who turned up to ante natal appointments with partner in tow.

happymerryberries · 13/09/2005 19:51

Yes, to most of mine on my own. I was also admitted to hospital with pre eclampsia on my own as dh was out of the country, a mate had to look after dd until he could be flown home.

Lua · 13/09/2005 19:56

bunnyboo, are you sure you can't reschedule
I had10 scans last pregnancy, sowas on my own for most of it - no problem.
however, if youwould like him there, and he wants to be there , I would rewshedule. Know lots of people who have done it.

MarsLady · 13/09/2005 19:58

yeah he believed me... when I showed him the scan photos and he wanted to know why there were 2 circles on the page lol. He didn't talk for 2 weeks. Me.... I laughed for 5 weeks. Couldn't believe it!

expatinscotland · 13/09/2005 20:12

Yep. Both of my 12 weeks scans DH missed. The first he had to work, the second he couldn't find a place to park.

It's not sad, it's over in 5 minutes anyhow.
