Was your 2nd babies bigger than 1st?

DS was 8lbs 11oz and 10 days early.

I was told at one point I would have growth scans this time but that seems to have been forgotten about. I also had a forceps and 3rd degree tear with DS.

I want a natural birth this time, I am allowed as I healed well, although if I want a c section I can.

Are 2nd babies always bigger than 1st?

Not 2nd but 3rd was a bit, all same gestation week.
DS - 7lb 13oz @ 40+1wks
DD1 - 7lb 10oz @ 40+5wks
DD2 - 8lb 2oz @ 40+3wks

OhLuckyYou · 07/10/2010 10:39

Yes, but I think it was because second time round I saw pregnancy as a licence to eat cake!!

juuule · 07/10/2010 10:40

No. 2nd baby almost a full pound lighter than the first.
dc1 - 7lb 13
dc2 - 6lb 15

ConnorTraceptive · 07/10/2010 10:41

Yes a pound heavier BUT actually a much esier birth than the first

DetectivePotato · 07/10/2010 19:31

So probably random then. I am hoping it will be easier as everything has been 'stretched'.

Second baby 1lb 4oz lighter than first, born only 4 days earlier.

sheeplikessleep · 07/10/2010 19:40

DS1 6lbs2
DS2 6lbs7

DS2 WAY easier and quicker to birth than DS1.

Stray · 07/10/2010 19:45

Second was bigger but easier
DS 9lb 1oz
DD 10lb 8oz

not doing it again incase they get bigger Hmm

TruthSweet · 07/10/2010 21:05

DD1 was 7lb 12oz @ 38w 3d
DD2 was 7lb 6oz @ 39w 5d
DD3 was 8lb 10oz @ 39w 5d

DD2 was the easiest labour by far - her 2nd stage was 4mins! DD1's was 2 1/2 hours (induced) and DD3 was 17 mins.

rubyslippers · 07/10/2010 21:06

DD was a mere 3 oz heavier than DS who was 6 lbs 3 oz

Not much in it

Faaamily · 07/10/2010 21:08

No, much smaller, but gestation was quite different.

DS was 10 lbs 2 oz at 42+5
DD was 7 lbs 2 oz at 37 +5, so would probably have been a big 'un, too, if she had gone full term

WhatSheSaid · 07/10/2010 21:08

Dd1 was 7lb 14oz and 50 cm long
Dd2 was 7lb 14oz and 50 cm long!

I make clone babies Grin

(Btw, I had growth scans with both and was told they would be 9lb-ish)

AlgebraKnocksItUpANotchBAM · 07/10/2010 21:10

DD born on due date, 8lb 4oz. long, difficult 2nd stage.
DS born 11 days late, 11lb 14oz, easy birth (21 mins 2nd stage).

am not risking another baby though. second pregnancy was awful.

blametheparents · 07/10/2010 21:11

DS was 8lb 12oz

DD was 7lb 6oz

so, in my case, no! Second baby good bit smaller than first, and much easier labour

EdgarAllInPink · 07/10/2010 21:11

yes, a pound bigger, but no tearing that time - had 2nd degree with first baby, no stitches with second.

Mw guessed he'd be 7-8lbs. he was 8lb13oz.

the second one, i went easy on the last push.

AlgebraKnocksItUpANotchBAM · 07/10/2010 21:13

FWIW DetectivePotato, I think if you want a VB you should go for it, although the fact you tore before may change your mind... it's up to you. but I'm sure I wouldn't have been allowed to have a VB if they'd known how big DS was, I'm really glad they didn't know! (Dr on the day of the birth felt my tummy and said "oh don't worry, I don't think he'll be that big" lol)

thisisyesterday · 07/10/2010 21:13

1st: 9lb 1. long labour, ventouse, 2nd degree tear

2nd: 9lb 5, 6 hr labour (depsite being OP) no tears. i wanted to do it agian straight after, it was such a lovely birth!!!

3rd: 9lb 11. 45 min labour. no tears

so yes, mine got progressively bigger, but not by a huge amount and the labours were quicker and easier each time

franke · 07/10/2010 21:13

Nope. dc1 was biggest of them all at around 8lb. 2nd was the smallest, 3rd somewhere in between.

KittyFoyle · 07/10/2010 21:15

1 7 and a half
2 9 and a half
3 8

Three lovely births - no tears or tears! Two of them at home.

mole1 · 07/10/2010 21:16

dd1 - 4lb 5oz at 38 weeks
dd2 - 6lb 6oz at 40 weeks

I seem to grow little babies!

katiepotatie · 07/10/2010 21:18

dd was 7lb and 5 days overdue
ds was 8lb 5oz 10 days overdue, both 52cm!

blueberryboybait · 07/10/2010 21:18

DD1 - 7lb10 7 hours, 15mins second stage
DD2 - 8lb1 1 hours labour, second stage 3 mins

ChasingSquirrels · 07/10/2010 21:19

mine was 1/2oz smaller - same gestation (to within about an hour!)

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/10/2010 21:20

DD1 7lb 11oz - 40 weeks
DD2 6lb 10oz - 39 weeks

Both reasonably straightforward births

withorwithoutyou · 07/10/2010 21:22

Nope, mine was much smaller:

DD1 - 9 pounds 11 - 40 plus 2
DD2 - 7 pounds 14 - 39 weeks exactly.

Have a friend who had a DS who was around 9 pounds 6 and second was 8ish pounds, sameish gestations.

Other friend had her two boys at 39 weeks - DS1 8 pounds 2 and DS2 around 7 pounds 6 I think
