strange pregnancy dreams- let's hear them!

I'm guessing a lot of us have been having strange dreams throughout pregnancy, I had a particularly disturbing one-

Dreamt I had a baby girl (have no idea what I'm having, but secretly convinced it's a boy), and that the baby had a traumatic time at delivery and was covered in thick meconium, and was quite abnormal at birth with a HUGE swollen tummy and scrawny little arms and legs...

Fortunately in the next scene baby was fine and was closer to normal. Was glad to wake up quite soon after.

Completely bizarre. Was worrying about the pregnancy yesterday though as went to a countryside pub and had one leaf of salad before noticing that another leaf on the plate hadn't been washed properly, and was trying to convince myself that the chances of me getting toxoplasmosis from that were incredibly slim...

So come on ladies, what other strange / bizarre / disturbing dreams have you been having?

My dreams are always bizarre but when pregnant they take on an even stranger turn. Usually mine were sex-related and unfathomable and strange! I put it down to the hormones.

FloraFinching · 19/09/2010 09:55

I had a really rude one about George Osborne . It's best that I keep the details to myself, as you really don't want those images in your head.

My strangest one so far was that I got a phone call to say my babies had arrived at the hospital and were ready for collection...Like I had pre ordered them, and I was just really annoyed that there was 2 when I only ordered 1, and when I got there they were about the size of a 2 year old...it really freaked me out!

smoggii · 19/09/2010 18:00

I had a dream in the week leading up to my 20week scan that I went to the hospital where they keep your baby in a microwave. The scan involves them turning the light and turntable on in the microwave so that you can see the baby.

I guess it's a modern day take on keeping a bun in the oven!

Speaking of animal babies, I dreamt I had had my baby, but it turned out to be an elephant! And I was trying to explain to everyone else that this was in fact my baby!

I've had a few quite scary ones this time.

When I was pg with DD I dreamt that they took the baby out to check that it was ok and I talked to it for a bit and then they put it back. I also had a dream that I had the baby and then put it in a basket and put it on a roller coaster by itself.

youngblowfish · 19/09/2010 18:16

smoggii, that is very funny!

I recently dreamt of my home birth which bizarrely happened on a surgical table where I painlessly gave birth to a perfectly nice 6 month old girl, fully dressed. I am planning a hospital birth and, whatever the flavour, I do hope the baby does not come fully clothed.

Other dreams include travelling to Columbia with my mother (have no connection to Columbia), and touching my weirdly shaped, protruding bump (I am yet to develop a proper bump as I am only 10 weeks).

Tinwe · 19/09/2010 18:17

Hi PixieOnaLeaf and KnockedUpMell - seems there's an animal theme going on!

Hi laurienamium - wish it was that easy!

I dreamt last night that I'd had the baby but kept losing it... I was out for the day and even checked that it wasn't hiding under the seats in a bus.

I'm in my first trimester so think maybe I really AM worried about losing it and that crept into my dreams.

berrycravings · 19/09/2010 18:26

So glad its not just me. This is my first pregnancy and some of my dreams are more like nightmares. Last night I dreamt I had 4 babies (i'm having just the one) and they were new born and I had to BF them all, burp them, change nappies and tuck back into bed before heading off to work for 8am. I'd asked my gran to tuck them in and she'd wrapped them in lots of blankets and they were too hot. I woke up sweating and in such a panic.

I wish they didn't feel so real or that I had some fun ones...

Tinwe · 19/09/2010 18:56

The dreams are bothering me most because I'm finding it hard to sleep anyway and normally I'm asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow! Waking up several times a night and then taking ages to get back to sleep is making me exhausted and even more nauseous. Anyone got any tips to share?

FourEyesGood · 19/09/2010 19:54

Another animal one, but not related to giving birth: last night I dreamt that DH, DS and I were sharing a bottle of pop. It was like Irn-bru, but inside the bottle was a very small fox, suspended in the liquid. I was assured that it was OK to drink it, as long as the bottom of my straw didn't touch the fox. Might steer clear of orange-coloured pop for the remaining 8+ weeks of my pregnancy...

sanfair · 19/09/2010 20:01

I dreamt I gave birth to the cat and I was watching him in his crib and thinking 'I love my son very much but I really was expecting a human baby'
And then felt really guilty because it wasn't his fault he was a cat and I was a bad mother for being disappointed in him.

Mercedes519 · 19/09/2010 20:08

I dreamt I had a really small baby (about an inch) and I was looking after it but then I put it in a pocket and couldn't find it and I woke up terrified. I had to physically calm myself down.

And as for the bear in the lift dream...exactly what it says. I have no idea what that means Grin but I did avoid lifts for a bit.

kelly2525 · 19/09/2010 22:08

A couple of weeks ago i dreamt i was leaving work one night with my workmate, a small white tardis was flying above our heads, it had three names on, mine, hers and someone elses, it also had our dates of birth and the dates we were going to die on, scary! A couple of nights ago i dreamt i was James Bond, and i had to save the world from poisoned biscuits/cakes

SparklyJules · 19/09/2010 22:19

I dreamt we had a baby boy but after 5yrs we still couldn't decide on a name so we changed him for a baby girl and asked my dad to name her - he called her Zoe!

MrsMogwai · 19/09/2010 22:50

I had a dream last night that I had twins and was flying home to Ireland with them. Everything went wrong and it was bloody hard work! Think it's a bit anxiety related as I'm worried I won't cope physically if I do have twins - scan next week.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 19/09/2010 23:22

Before I got BFP I was waking up every night in cold sweats from the most realistic (if not always scary) dreams. Finding out I was pregnant and not going mad was a huge relief!

Now, a few months on, at least it isn't every night but I was a bit disturbed by the (thankfully human!) baby that popped out without me noticing (if only!). Clearly still had pregnancy brain as I forgot about it until about a day later when I started panicking as to where on earth it was and would it have died without being fed....

laurenamium · 19/09/2010 23:23

lol at panic!

Basketcase28 · 20/09/2010 10:24

Gosh, i've had a few.

Dreamt that my fiance died whilst i was heavily pregnant - i'm 18 weeks pregnant now, and this was a couple of months ago. Strangely, shortly after the dream he was beaten up by 2 random blokes in the street! Thankfully he lived!

In another dream, i was holding a toddler girl and saying 'You're mummy's girl, aren't you?' I later found out, via private scan, that i am in fact having a girl. :-)

But the weirdest so far has been the one in which i was about to embark on an affair with...Simon Cowell!! I'm pretty sure that's one dream that won't come true. Why couldn't i have dreamt about George Clooney instead?

PaigeTurner · 20/09/2010 11:10

My best ones:

Lost my maternity notes in the world's biggest nightclub

Was asked to kill puppies with a hammer Sad

Last night I was asked to be a body-double for a Madonna video (think my subconscious is taking the piss with this one!)

humanfraggle · 20/09/2010 11:32

I had many strange dreams while I was pg, one I particularly remember was just before my 20wk scan.

In my dream, I had my scan, and the picture on screen was in full colour, and the (fully grown) baby was wearing a blue t-shirt. I asked the sonographer if that was relevant, and she answered, "well, yes, durrr" like it was the most obvious thing ever!

I went on to have a girl, and she came out without any t-shirt on, thankfully Grin

lucielooo · 20/09/2010 12:59

Loads of really erotic dreams that I don't normally have!!

And that I gave birth early at 11 weeks (what I am now) to a nice 6 pound baby but then I realised it was probably a bit early and no-one would answer my questions about whether that was ok. And I had to go to work because I haven't told work that I'm pregnant and then realised halfway through the day that I probably shouldn't have left the baby at home on it's own :(

fludnelb · 20/09/2010 14:00

Since getting a BPF I have been having really vivid ones every night.. it's exhausting! Last night I dreamt I dumped DH in favour of Damien Hirst (wtf??) and the previous night I was trying to swat a fly... only when it came buzzing past me I realised it had a baby's face...
