I'm guessing a lot of us have been having strange dreams throughout pregnancy, I had a particularly disturbing one-

Dreamt I had a baby girl (have no idea what I'm having, but secretly convinced it's a boy), and that the baby had a traumatic time at delivery and was covered in thick meconium, and was quite abnormal at birth with a HUGE swollen tummy and scrawny little arms and legs...

Fortunately in the next scene baby was fine and was closer to normal. Was glad to wake up quite soon after.

Completely bizarre. Was worrying about the pregnancy yesterday though as went to a countryside pub and had one leaf of salad before noticing that another leaf on the plate hadn't been washed properly, and was trying to convince myself that the chances of me getting toxoplasmosis from that were incredibly slim...

So come on ladies, what other strange / bizarre / disturbing dreams have you been having?

At the moment mine are all sex related & involve me getting my leg over with people like the plumber...and they are usually really grubby & unattractive! I have no idea why! Confused

nagoo · 20/09/2010 20:39

sex dreams... DH trying to seduce me in a school toilet (bought condoms from the vending machine on wall Shock) when interpuppted by Bob Hoskins in a brown ballgown talking to his wife about his recent performance in a dancing competition.

Also one based on board a pirate ship where I had to help my friend to sabotage a lasagne being cooked by the captain Omid Djialli and held in a talking oven.

This kind of exhausting crap every night. No giving birth to kittens though.

laurenamium · 21/09/2010 23:18

nagoo i love your lasagne dream...I want to have that dream!

I've had a few where I suddenly had a fully grown baby, the first one was about a month ago (am 22 weeks now) and I was carrying it around in a car seat, it was about eight months old and it had recently occurred to me that the hospital had given me the wrong one because this one was too big. But I'd gotten attached to it and really didn't want to give it back, but I was worried about my actual baby, but didn't want to have to trade this one in in order to get the actual one.

The other two were a few nights ago, in the first of those I'd just realised that I'd had the baby too early, as January is ages away (but it was newborn sized rather than premature) and I was worried people would think I was irresponsible for having it too soon, and also was confused because I couldn't remember the actual birth. The one after that was entirely about not being able to remember the birth, this one was actually quite distressing.

I think I might be having background worries about being in enough control of the birth process!

I have just woken up (averaging about 3 hours sleep a night at the moment), from a dream where i was in labour- roller skating. One of those really 80's roller rinks, where you have to wear legwarmers.

I am not sure why this is. i have never worn a pair of roller skates, or indeed legwarmers, in my life- and at 39 weeks, am not about to start!

Wonder if it means anything?

Actually, i am so fed up with being pregnant, could it be worth a try??? (The drawback being i can't even stand, so maybe not Grin)

I might just buy legwarmers.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2010 02:58

BasketCase, Ellesbelles, and Nagoo at least it wasn't ... Boris Yeltsin

I dreamed about a little red haired girl when pg with DD1, and she turned out to be a little red haired girl.

nymphadora · 22/09/2010 05:04

I was looking for Frodo for about a week. Very exhausting!

slimyak · 23/09/2010 13:09

A couple of weeks ago I had a spell of really violent dreams. The strangest being that a bloke from work and one of DH friends had moved into our house and were trying to kill me with a jews harp and the wire off the top of a champagne bottle, and the other was being forced to witness a public stoning, which really up-set me for days.

Thankfully now I've moved on to minor random dream thoughts really. Last night I lost my work trousers on the way home and couldn't find them anywhere. Thankfully they were over the chair this morning when I woke up and I'm please to report I still have them on at lunchtime!

Cyclebump · 23/09/2010 13:55

I dreamt I went for what I thought was a scan but actually was sat down by a doctor who'd heard I 'was telling people I'm pregnant'. He then told me I shouldn't lie about these things while I hysterically tried to convince him I WAS pregnant. Had to wake DP up and ask if I was really pregnant.

RooBear · 23/09/2010 14:06

I had one a couple of months ago where I had 8 cat babies and I had them all on the changing table with their furry legs in the air!

yellowflowers · 23/09/2010 14:19

I am having lots of these often about ex boyfriends or colleagues (sometimes women too) propositioning me and me becoming involved in romantic entanglements. All very odd. My dh finds them very funny.

Antidote · 23/09/2010 14:59

I've just started getting really horrid dreams:

Walking all round the hospital complex where DH works with a drip stand and a tiny new baby hidden in my trousers Hmm trying to find him to ask what we should call it, as his mother is bugging me about it.

Having a still-born baby and having to take everything back to the shop. This one was definitely triggered by a beautiful hand knitted toy from a lovely elderly relative, which had been carefully placed in a clear plastic bag to keep it clean, but which looked like a body bag/medical waste bag in my hormone addled state. Sad

Me and the baby dying in labour and DH having to take everything back to the shops, and being really pissed off at me for having got so much stuff.

Going into labour, having the baby at home by accident and the ambulance men taking it away.

Having the baby and not being able to take it home because the car seat had not arrived, and DH refused to buy another 'emergency' one.

Oh dear, hope this stops soon......

I love this thread, it's a curious combination of truly hilarious and also quite frightening! Confused

My most recent one was animal but not really baby related - my SIL had bought us a pet tiger, which we thought was slightly strange but we accepted just to be polite (!). He slept behind the couch. And the weirdest, and most inappropriate thing, was that having the tiger in the house made me really worried - not that he would attack us, or the baby, but because I was scared he might hurt/bite/eat the cat while we were out! Hmm

I also had endless inappropriate sex dreams in the first tri... DH was quite miffed that I was getting all this dream action when I was in fact too sick and grumpy for any real life sex. The best one involved his secret brother who appeared out of nowhere (in real life DH only has sisters), and who looked just like DH, only taller and with bigger muscles Grin

prettywhiteguitar · 23/09/2010 15:35

I'm totally loving all these dreams, espec. not touching the fox one ! absolutely bonkers

all mine are v. sexual and last night I was trying to bed some ramdom who was selling me a vintage satchel in an indoor market...they were having none of it though, then saw a guy from secondary school and his twin(he isn't one) who looked like Captain Sparrow, needless to say I had a go....but failed

think its worry about twins...and not enough sex

KnockedUpMell · 23/09/2010 16:52

Hmmm... Had strange ones last night about going round to a friends for tea and finding her entertaining election campaigners, and then another one with me finally having the baby, but it had no nose! I was really puzzled in my dream and telling everyone I wasn't sure it was ours as we both had noses...

I dreamt that Theo Pathetis was trying to steal my baby.

And had another this week that the baby had to be delivered early because his toe nails had become too long and were sticking out of my belly...

SilverBoots · 24/09/2010 11:07

Another animal one here.

On wednesday night I gave birth to a cat & was shocked that it wasn't a kitten.

Last night I installed a beehive in the bathroom, but the bees ignored it & flew up my skirt. Very strange - I NEVER wear skirts when I'm pg.

All these mad dreams are a bit tiring though.

1Catherine1 · 28/09/2010 11:13

In the last week I have had 2 Lucid dreams which I have found rather disturbing. Never had these dreams before but I don't find them particularly interesting or enjoyable since the first time I became obsessed with trying to wake up. I had a false awakening but realized fairly quickly and became again obsessed with trying to wake up. Last night I again realized I was dreaming and decided that this time I would try to control my dream instead but I failed and woke up due to the excitement of being in control of a dream.

Does anyone know if you are more likely to have lucid dreams while pregnant or is it just a coincidence?

islandbaby · 28/09/2010 11:20

I've just woken at 6am following a nightmare in which I was at an NCT sale, but all it was was boxes upon boxes, all unmarked, and I had to go through each one individually looking for a breast pump, but they were all empty and I was becoming more and more frustrated.

I haven't been to any nct sales, but was talking with my mother earlier about going to a big one in her area soon, and had been reading the posts about what a fight they are...

One of my weirdest was in early pregnancy, when I had watched a tv programme about how marsupials such as kangaroos give birth. That night I dreamed that I gave birth to a very small, fully formed red toddler, the size of (and not unlike) a lego man. After giving birth, i just picked him up and popped him in my mouth to carry on growing him...

fayc84 · 28/09/2010 11:25

I woke up at 4am and hubby was sleeping very peacefully beside me and I was convinced he was dead so I woke him up screaming and shaking him. He found it hilarious but I was rather upset.

A funnier one was I drempt I was at a zoo wrestling a bear. It wasn't scary at all and I won!

bundlebelly · 28/09/2010 11:46

Exceedindly rude one about James McAvoy last night. So strong it woke me up, but then I realised that it was only a dream so I went back to sleep and enjoyed!

fanofpeamum · 02/10/2010 00:24

OMG this thread is incredible!

lainey1981 · 02/10/2010 09:22

had a really strange oneearlier iin the week. I was in labour at hospital but as i went to delivery room there was already someone in there who was giving birth standing up. no one seemed to think it was strange.
not even when she began giving birth to giant eggs in plastic pods, each of which had a face 'carved' in the yolk. the face of the woman's daughter was slightly different in each yolk (ie bigger nose, smaller lips etc) and she had to choose which one she wanted to keep.

can't remember how it ended as i woke up soon after rather disturbed!

lilmamma · 02/10/2010 13:09

I remember dreaming i had given birth,in my mums hallway, the baby just fell out ..and when i woke in the morning i was soooo disapointed my huge bump was still there and i hadnt had a painless quick birth lol x

daisystone · 02/10/2010 14:09

I mainly dream about very tiny babies being kept in small dishes.

The first one I had involved me going into premature labour and the baby being kept in a petri dish Shock

The most recent one involved me seeing an old friend who I hadn't seen in ages and she was pushing a pram. When I looked inside, this very very tiny baby was lying in an unwashed ashtray with a fried egg pulled up to its nose as a blanket! I remember thinking 'that's a bit odd'.....
