Hi everyone, I have my MW appt on Monday and scan the week after so it's all starting to feel real :) Clothes are not fitting very well because I have to eat to keep the nausea at bay! Glad to say the sickness is easing and I feel like going back to the gym. Hopefully that will keep the weight gain at bay. I'm slightly annoyed at having the MW appointment in a different hospital than the one I wanted to be referred to and it's a hospital that I haven't read great things about in MW. If I don't get good vibes I've decided to investigate going private as the last thing I need is to stress about the level of healthcare I'm getting.

Anyone getting freaked out by TMI in the maternity books? I read the section on 'your body after birth' and found out what lochia was last night! perhaps it's better not to know some things Grin

chester21 · 29/10/2010 22:37

you are all making me feel so much better i am just over 13 weeks and i am struggling to get into quite a few of my clothes. my one main worry is the eating problem i cant seem to be able to eat anything healthy without feeling sick toast and marmite chicken fried rice and very plain food is all i can cope with i just hope my little one is gonna be ok it a long wait till the 20 week scan which we get on the 23rd december what a brilliant xmas pressie. is there anyone out there who is struggling with eating please help me i feel like a fish out of water

Teasie · 29/10/2010 23:18

Hi Chester, I normally eat really well and in the last 4 weeks all I want is very plain food- toast with lots of butter, hula hoops, chips, sausage rolls :) I can't even look at broccoli and I usually love it! Don't beat yourself up- after all our bodies are going through major changes!

Justtrying · 30/10/2010 08:35

Teasie and Chester, I too normally eat a healthy diet, but I second eating to try and keep the nausea at bay salt and vinegar crisps are my thing at the mo. However i'm hopeful that I may be turning the corner as I really enjoyed my tea last night homemade fried rice with loads of veg with BBQ spare ribs, I even managed seconds a first for weeks. :)

suedehead · 30/10/2010 10:03

yes, i agree re the food thing - i'm finding that my tastes have just changed. my sweet tooth has practically disappeared, and i've been enjoying things i previously didn't even bother with like crisps and apple juice - very odd.

clothes are also getting pretty tight around the middle! bought some maternity jeans from ebay for £2 - arrived yesterday and they're brilliant! think will be living in those for a while... i live near a mamas and papas factory shop too - off there this afternoon- heard there are some real bargains!

good luck, and i think the theme of this board at the moment is definitely that we seem to be coming out the other side! vive le second trimester energy boost!

Kazmog · 30/10/2010 10:50

Hello all, I had my consultant appointment yesterday and all is was ok. I got my nuchal tests back which I was concerned about but she put my mind at rest. She did a little portable scan which was really reassuring. Previously I thought I was due on the 1st of May but she confirmed that I due on the 25th of April and they will look to induce me up to three weeks before so likely to be an early April baby - so feel like an intruder on this thread now! Good luck to you all

LabMonkey · 30/10/2010 11:31

I'm 13 weeks now and I'm actually beginning to feel more human. I managed a 5km this morning - I'm now resigned to the fact that I won't be doing any more 10kms until 2011 now :(

I could only eat really crappy food - including choc which I'm normally not that interested in - but I'm starting to crave veggies again which is great. I think now I'm generally only sick when I'm really tired so I'm hoping to be ok this weekend. I also don't seem to be as hungry all the time which is making me feel more like myself again.

My clothes still fit but feel a bit tight around the middle at times. I had to buy a proper maternity dress as I have a 2 day work event in 2 weeks which includes a black tie dinner and last year's dress won't do up! I've managed to buy a couple of maternity bundles on ebay and the first one arrived today - the only maternity jeans I've seen which I actually like :)

Also got the nuchal results back and it seems our ratio is 1 in 9800 which seems pretty good odds to me.

Teasie · 30/10/2010 14:27

Too right Suedehead- sounds like we're turning a corner! I have been too afraid to weigh myself over the last few weeks but did so this morning and was very pleasantly surprised to see I have gained just 2 kg :) Jeans and trousers are getting tighter but after all the maggi noodles, buttery toast, crisps etc I can't complain about a little damage!

cupcakebakerer · 30/10/2010 15:30

I'm a bit of an intruder on this thread too as due April 23 and being induced on 9th but it's nice to read that people have been going through similar things - I was really worried about the damage I'd caused due to my bizarre aversion to vegetables but it seems I'm not alone! I'm 15 weeks today and have to say I feel completely non pregnant now apart from the little bump I'm now sporting - anyone else feel like a fraud? I still find myself questioning if I am actually preggers and if I hadn't seen our baby on the 12weekk scan wouldn't believe it!

newmaman · 30/10/2010 17:16

Hello Ladies. I am with you all about food. I used to eat healthy food and was on a calorie controlled diet before I got pregnant. I am now 10 weeks pregnant and I eat a lot of unhealthy food and it keeps nausea at bay (which is really ironic). I don't know about you ladies but I can't really call them pregancy cravings but more like "food I feel I will keep down". The only blessing so far is that I don't fancy chocolate or much sweets.
Anyone else on this thread with underactive thyroid. Just wanted to share some experiences.

clarabella18 · 31/10/2010 21:00

Hi to all the newbies, all I can say is that august must have been one hell of a boring month!!

Just coming up for 12 weeks and have my first antinatal appointment on the 9th feelsmlike it's been forever in coming. Am starting to feel a bit less tired and my headaches are easing however I know have sciatica and my second cold in the past 6 weeks oh the joy!
I have noticed my once thin limp hair is now becoming thicker and glossier the downside is I seem to sprouting a beard!! There's always a flipside eh?!

BlueWellies · 31/10/2010 21:24

Hi everyone, new and old,

Feeling fat too, though OH thinks there's a bump there. I jusk know I can't do up the top button of my jeans and think all my work colleagues noticed on Friday as I forgot and was weraring a not-long-enough top. Doh. Should be able to tell my boss this week though so will soon be common knowledge.

Is anyone else nervous about telling people? Should be excited, but am anxious in case something goes wrong (have seen it on the scan, but yes, cupcakebakerer, I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and also feel like a fraud - wish there was some kicking or something to know it's still alive), and wondering how everyone at work will react to me once they know (it's not common to see a pg woman in my workplace).

BlingLoving, glad it's not just me that's confused over threads.

Birchykel, how are you doing? Guess you might not want to be looking at this if you are worried, but if you do read this, just to let you know I'm thinking about you.

funnylittlekaty · 01/11/2010 19:10

Evening ladies,
Glad to hear you're all ok. Agreed on the food thing...usually not a fan of anything sweet, much rather have crisps and nuts, but since pregnancy, love love love all the sweeties! Pain au choc and cookies all day long thanks! Have a question though, am getting totally rotten headaches all the time, it's making work really hard. Midwife said I'm ok taking paracetamol occasionally but I'm getting them everyday and don't want to do that. Any suggestions? Wish maternity leave could start at 14 weeks! No such luck.
Take care xxx

MoppingMummy · 01/11/2010 20:46

Headaches are awful especially if they're every day - I had a terrible one last wk and took paracetamol for it. I remember in first and second pregnancies I tried to avoid all medicines, but I'm feeling less worried this time... my friend had a serious accident during her pregnancy, had to have operations and was put on strong painkillers including morphine - put it in to perspective for me!

cowboylover · 01/11/2010 21:06

I would love to start maternity now funkylittlekaty! If only we could but some days im feeling better than I have in a few weeks so fingers crossed the good will continue and we will all be enjoying the 'blooming' period soon x

I have been using the cooling head packs for head aches and they have helped if its either helping me relax or that they actually work and my MW said they where ok to use.

clarabella18 · 01/11/2010 21:32

I've had horrendous headaches also been taking paracetamol when it's gets too bad otherwise I've been using the 4head stick thing that you can get from the chemist. Seems to take the edge off the worst of it.

jojosmaman · 02/11/2010 12:45

Hello! I've not been on mumsnet for ages (have a ds who is now nearly 4 and used to visit regularly to calm my precious first born paranoia fears!) but am 14 weeks pregnant and due May the 4th (May the forth be with you!).

Had my 12 week scan a couple of weeks ago and all fine but can't believe how much the level of care has increased since DS1! I saw the midwife, a doctor, a consultant and a senior consultant all in the space of 1.5hrs.. Last time I don't think I saw the midwife properly until I was about 30 weeks!

I have an underactive thyroid (that's the fat one!) and had to have an emergency CS under a GA with DS1 so can't have midwife led birth which was a bit gutting. POssibly looking like an elective CS as don't want to risk another emergency CS.

So, that's me! Oh, symptoms wise I have been completely different this time round to last. Had horrible headaches for first few weeks last time but nothing this. Last time nausea kicked in around 9-12weeks but then food aversion stayed throughout my whole pregnancy (could only eat bland white food, potatoes, pasta, cheese, chips.. very healthy!) but this time sickness almost immediately and constant until about 12 weeks. However now I am pretty much eating anything, had Thai and Indian recently which no way I could have even smelt last time. Also this time my hair is so lank and my skin is worse than a teenagers. Great!

Having said that, even though completely different symptoms I feel like I'm carrying a boy but will find out on the 20week scan on 23rd Dec! Would love one of each but DS is keen on having a boy (girls are boring apparantly!) and actually said we can give it back if its a girl Hmm

Anyway, looking forward to checking on this post!

xx

JBrd · 02/11/2010 15:39

I've had bad headaches around 8-9 weeks, probably more due to low blod pressure than anything else. I still get woozy and light-headed at times, and today I've been feeling sick ever since I had lunch. I really hope the stupid sickness stops soon, I'm so fed up with it!

Got my 12-week scan tomorrow, am really excited but also nervous...1st baby, and I'm 38, so worried about Down's and other things. We're getting the nuchal translucency with blood test done to check the risks. Hopefully, it'll be fine, fingers crossed!

jojosmaman · 02/11/2010 17:13

Good luck JBrd, I'm sure you'll be fine but just try and enjoy it, its a very special time!
xx

Teasie · 02/11/2010 21:05

Hi everyone! Sorry to hear about the headaches- I hope they go away soon :( I had my booking appointment yesterday and the midwife said headaches are very common. It was a nice session and she is very pleasant so no complaints. My boss has guessed the situation (my colleague told me she's wondering if I'm in the family way) but I can't/won't tell her personally as I'm a contractor so I have no obligation to say anything as my contract finishes well before I would have to leave anyway. I've told close family and some colleagues (had to as they backed me up when I was feeling awful) and after the nuchal and scan next week we'll tell more people if everything is good :) JBrd- good luck XX

crazydayz · 03/11/2010 11:46

Hi all,

I know I haven't posted for ages and ages but I do read the thread every day to see how you all are doing and keep up Smile.

I thought I was being a bit of a wet blanket as my symptoms of tiredness and vomiting felt dreadful and I didn't want to whinge as it being our first I thought that everyone else was handling it better than me!

Well we had our 12 week scan yesterday and it turns out that there are actually 2 in there!!!! Shock So I wasn't being a wuss after all.

We haven't come to terms with having twins at all yet but thought I'd better share my news!

LondonCityGirl · 03/11/2010 13:06

Hello everyone,

I'm joining a bit late but have been following the thread for a while and it's been giving me so much comfort. I'm 15 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I'm actually due on 28th April but as am pretty convinced my baby will be late - so hopefully I just scrape into being accepted into this thread!

My pregnancy hasn't been going as smooth as I was expecting. I had a little bit of bleeding on 6th and 7th week and then in the 3 days leading up to my first scan had heavy bleeding with clots. I ended up in A & E where they did an internal exam saying my cervix was closed and everything looked normal. Then at the scan the next day they again said my baby and position of placenta looked really healthy and normal. But I'm still getting dark brown spotting every day so I'm finding it hard to relax and enjoy pregnancy when every time I go to the toilet there's a reminder everything's perhaps not as it should be.

Has anyone else experienced bleeding? Do you think I should request another scan sooner than my 20 week one which is on 10th December?

Looking forward to being part of this wonderful group! xx

soandsosmum · 03/11/2010 14:33

Hi

I had my 12 week scan yesterday and got moved 'forward' three days, so now due 12th May - so I can leave work three days earlier!

crazydayz - wow! that must have been a shocker! I can imagine it will take you a while to get your heads round two, but good news :-)

LondonCity Girl - sorry to hear about your bleeding. Cant give advice, but maybe call your midwife and have a chat about the way forward?

I have a crazy situation in that when I told my boss I was pregnant, he told me the board decided to make me redundant a few weeks ago! arg! So now we're in negotiations, where I'm trying to persuade him to keep me on til the end of my maternity leave, but agree to take it earlier rather than later, which will save them about 1.5 months salary. (I think they can claim almost all the SMP back from the gov). Not such a bad thing, as I don't love the job, but just a bit of a shocker!

ariadnestar · 03/11/2010 16:56

Hi Everyone - been watching from the sidelines for a while, but felt I had to respond to LondonCityGirl. I had a large bleed 2 weeks ago, and like you was told the baby was fine and the cervix was closed.

I went into the EPU for a scan a week later (having had brown spotting the whole time) and it seems I've got blood clot inside the uterus, near the cervix. It's a subchorionic haematoma, and they're not that uncommon. The midwife and sonographers were completely calm about it, and don't seem to think it'll be an issue. I was rescanned this week and the sonographer thinks it's resolving itself. They don't want to scan me again until my 20 week.

I wonder if you had a similar bleed? If it's all bled out it won't show on the scan.

Even if it is still there, they often reabsorb and disappear by 20 weeks. Although there are some horror stories on Google, from what I can gather these are nothing to worry about in over 90% of cases, unless they're threatening the placenta, and your scan would have shown that. I'm still spotting brown every day after 18 days, and some of the women in the SCH support groups I've found online have been the same for several weeks and even months!

Hope that helps to put your mind at rest a little - as long as it's brown blood it should be nothing to worry about, but you should contact your midwife if you get any more red (although it's not uncommon to have a few red bleeds if you do have an SCH).

LondonCityGirl · 04/11/2010 15:34

Thanks so much for the message Ariadnestar. I had wondered if it could be an SCH as I'd read about them but neither my midwife, nor the A & E gynacologist, nor the sonographer ever raised that as a potential cause. They just looked a bit blank and said the spectrum of symptoms pregnant women experience is so wide, anything can be normal and sometimes women bleed for no apparent cause. But my experience sounds very similar to yours so I'm fairly convinced it must be that.

My spotting seems to be getting much lighter now (fingers crossed) after 18 days, so I'm hoping I can put it all behind me now. But I might put a call into the midwife and let her know what's been happening just in case she feels like offering me an earlier scan to put my mind at rest.

Soandsomum - what a shocker. I'm sure having 1.5 months off before the birth will make you much more relaxed before you give birth though which is definitely an added bonus. If it makes you feel any better, I'm self-employed so only get the statutory maternity pay of £120 week. I look upon anyone with 6 months maternity pay with green-eyed envy!
