Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MoppingMummy · 15/10/2010 13:14

Hi all, I'm 9 1/2 wks with 3rd baby and due mid May also! Have been feeling so ill for past 4 weeks with constant nausea and tiredness, but it's hard to get a rest with 2 other children running round (plus major house extension work - argh!). Just hoping it subsides in a few weeks and I can start enjoying feeling normal again (for a bit anyway...!). Booking appointment today answering hundreds of questions, just got to wait for scan date now!

Hope you're all feeling well.

Mintie190 · 15/10/2010 13:50

Hello, I'm a May 2011 mum too, due on 28 May. I found out I was pregnant the Monday after we moved house so I had to register with a new GP. Of course, I have ended up with a terrible one!! I rang up the hospital where she was supposed to refer me to but they didn't have any referral. They took my details so hopefully I will get an appointment soon. As it's my first baby, I don't really know what to expect. When are others who are due at the end of May having their first appointment and scan?

cowboylover · 15/10/2010 15:13

The 3 hours for me is pparently because im also having my blood tests done that day and meeting the genetic councilor so dont be scared girls!

BlueWellies · 15/10/2010 16:10

Hi all,

Booking appointment was like yours Moppingmummy just answering loads of questions and also giving loads of blood. Must have put on a few pounds too as BMI has rocketed up since last checked (we have no scales at home). Scan should be anytime after 11 weeks (tomorrow!) but we're on holiday next week so I'll have to wait a bit longer, yes, please post everyone and let all us first timers know what happens!

Anyone else worried about Toxoplasmosis? We don't have cats, but I spend a lot of time on farms for work and there are plenty of sheep around... MW said she could take more blood to test for it.

Decided seeing as I don't seem to be able to kick my tea habit to get in some decaf tea, but it tastes like cardboard! Anyone found a 'tasty' brand of decaf tea, or I am going to have to alternate with real stuff for the next 6 months?

Bye for now

Katerlina · 15/10/2010 18:00

Right cowboylover a genetic counsellor, that's not scary at all!

BlueWellies I am not able to give up tea - and since I have given up a million other things, including my beloved red wine, I decided decaff tea was a step too far.

All the things we are supposed to stop consuming are 'advisory', bear that in mind for a start, and frankly I think you would have to be drinking about twelve gallons a day to really affect your baby. How many cups do you think you drink - realistically? For me it's probably about 6 or 7 (that I actually finish) and I always make a pot - so figure that surely if I use two bags - even if I get 4 cups out of it, that's still only two bags worth?!

And as has been said to me a million times during pregnancy - it's a wonder any of us 70s babies even made it out of the womb, the bad things OUR mums were doing ;)

Katerlina · 15/10/2010 18:01

And I feel sick, sick, sick - for about three hours between 5 and 8 every evening. Boooo.

Perhaps it's all the tea I'm drinking!!

Hello! I had my booking in on weds (2 hours but I have complications) and my scan on Monday which I am excited but really nervous about... Good luck to you all kx ps my nausea is better I just sipped and ate tiny things all day long - apply juice and melon worked for me!

pissovski · 15/10/2010 19:12

Hi all,

had my booking in and scan yesterday :) It was lovely to see proper proof that there is a baby in there (rather than just a line on a stick!). We have started to tell people other than just our families now, which is nice cos i have nearly exploded with all the waiting!!

Leigh30 · 15/10/2010 19:38

hi guys,
thanks for all your helpful replies and support, i feel really thankful that i found this site. I took the advice of you all and went and had a chat with my GP who checked my bloods and found i was dehydrated and also losing too much weight so i now have "magic wonderful" tablets and they have turned my life around. They dont take away all the feelings of nausea, but they do stop me from actually being sick and i can now eat and drink in small amounts throughout the day and feel so much happier - hurrah!!!
I had my booking appt last week and the midwife was lovely and am just waiting to hear a date for my dating scan now, but am pretty sure i am 10 weeks tomorrow.
Will be interested to hear how others scans go.
speak soon lovely ladies.
L.x

cowboylover · 16/10/2010 17:00

Good news Leigh x

babyjanie · 16/10/2010 20:01

BlueWelllies I bought PG Tips decaf tea and I can't taste the difference! Couldn't live without tea! My husband is even drinking it with me and he's as fussy as anything and hasn't noticed the difference either!

Haven't been on here for a couple of weeks - been ill with swollen glands and generally very run down with a very stressful job! Feeling bit better now and really excited about our dating scan on Friday - we don't know how far along I am as I wasn't regular when I fell preggars!

Take care ladies xx

Caz10 · 16/10/2010 22:24

Another ill one here! Brought on by being run down as well - how are you meant to avoid that when pg?!?! Doc v lovely and sympathetic at least (although didn't sign me off work as I was hoping Grin)

Anyway more importantly had early scan today, they reckon I am almost 9 weeks and there is a heartbeat, PHEW!! Crazily I am still not relaxed about it, but getting there!

Tea - try redbush tea, it's yum!! I drank loads when pg with DD1, it is caffine free and has loads of healthy things in it. Tick Tock stuff is nice.

Hope sick people are feeling a bit less sick!

clarabella18 · 16/10/2010 22:24

Hi ladies I too have switched to decaf the thought of not having my tea addiction filled was unthinkable, switched to decaf retort and actually can't tell the difference!

Have been feeling pretty rotten today been so lethargic took me hours to get out my jammies and get dressed this morning then had a bit of a funny turn in asda and been feeling pretty pants since been feeling sick and light headed, no appetite which is really unusual for me and slightly achey/twingey in the stomach.
Just trying to take it easy and hopefully feel a bit better in the morning.
Sorry for the moan!

Katerlina · 17/10/2010 12:18

I had a bit of the achey twingey tummy thing yesterday - I think it's just muscles and tendons expanding a little as you do - I'd only worry if it develops to actual pain. If it worries you call your midwife - they would rather you bothered them than not.

clarabella18 · 17/10/2010 14:23

Had a right flakey just now, spent all last night and this morning being such a narky cow my BF just comes and tells me I've made DS cry for shouting at him all the time and I just lost it. Broke down into uncontrollable sobbing. Feel so pathetic I know it's probably just a combo of hormones and stress ( am nearly 10 weeks and still haven't heard a thing from the midwives coupled with feeling really shitty yesterday) and having a slightly insensitive partner, I'm sure he's not doing it on purpose but still doesn't help, and I'm sooo tired not sleeping properly at all.

Sorry for the moan just needed to get it out.

DrMel · 17/10/2010 18:45

Hi ladies...first trimester scan is tomorrow...totally crapping it. I'm convinced that they'll find no baby in there or that it will have three heads!! I keep having nightmares!! Wish me luck!

Clarabella - don't worry about the not sleeping - I've had terrible insomnia and although I might have a three headed baby I think there must be something in there as I feel so sick! And I've been a total basket case - totally stressed out and crying at everything. Everyone says that you'll feel better soon - I'm 12 weeks and I'm not there yet but hopefully it is just around the corner!

About the stomach twinges...i've had them a lot and they get worse when I get stressed out. I asked the doctor about it and they said its normal ...ligament stretching apparently.

Bring on the second trimester!

clarabella18 · 17/10/2010 19:09

Thanks caterlina and Mel feeling a bit better had a good chat with DP then we all cuddled up on the sofa and watches a good family film with my DS who's 8. Still getting the twinned and things but as you said think it's probably just alot of the internal stretching etc. It feels so long since I had DS that I feel like I'm a first timer again!!

Katerlina · 17/10/2010 20:23

Clarabella I often think my DP is insensitive - and then I realise that actually, he's just not psychic!

Always tell them what's on your mind - he can't help if he doesn't know, and men aren't awfully good at 'picking up signals', they just aren't built that way. :)

Tibbo81 · 18/10/2010 02:32

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is alright?
Haven't been on here for a while as i've been at work and life at home has been pretty busy the past week.

We've finally told most of our family, the only person left to tell is my mum which i plan to do when i see her on wednesday.

The in laws were really pleased for us, as were my Dad, stepmum and step sisters.

Myself and BF had a manic trip to Bluewater the other day trying to find an outfit for me to wear to my Stepsisters wedding on saturday. the trip was successfull, but i think i'm only going to get wear it once!!

Still suffering with nausea and actually ended up running to the loo the other morning at work to be sick.

Also i've had a few wibble moments which have ended in tears, strange thing is it only happens at work and i'm starting to struggle with working shifts as i get so tired.

I'm currently on nights and have 3 1/2 hours of my shift left and all i want to do is go to sleep. roll on 6am when i can go home to bed.

I still haven't heard from my midwife about any of my appointments so if i haven't heard from the by friday im going to phone them.

Speak to you all soon
Tibbo xx

emmah194 · 18/10/2010 13:59

hi

I'm just back from my booking appointment, which took about an hour and was a bit of an anti-climax. Midwife was nice and everything seems simple enough. Maybe I didn't go in with enough questions but I don't feel like I got anything out of it except for being told I need to eat more calcium, I don't need to take prenatal vitamin supplements and being slightly frowned at for not sounding enthusiastic enough about breastfeeding.

I'm sure its just hormones talking but I felt like I was expected to know everything before I went in and she was just there to remind me about what I'd read, but I don't know where I'm supposed to have read it. Now I've made myself cry - not unusal the last couple of days. Time for a tea break me thinks.

Kazmog · 18/10/2010 16:34

Just had my 12 week scan - really lovely to see his/her arms and legs kicking away! I was so nervous that I didn't sleep last night so I am now at my desk exhausted! They pulled my dates forward to April - so hope that you don't mind if I stay on here! Good luck with all of your scans x

cowboylover · 18/10/2010 17:28

I have got my scan tomorrow and going in excited and nervous! DH is super excited and its nice to see him like it as not someone who shows much emotion normally.

A close friend of ours had a miscarridge on the weekend at 7 and a half months I was hoping that after the scan we would be able to relax but that is going to take a bit longer now. DH keeps saying not to let it rock my confidence but its hard not to.

TrinityCalling · 18/10/2010 18:16

Evening everyone, been away for a few days which has been lovely but have really missed my daily fix of reading this thread!

BlueWellies and LittleMilla thanks for replies to my post re booking-in last week!

Cowboylover sorry to hear such sad news about your friend it's only natural that it would shake you but sounds like your DH is saying exactly the right things x

Bit of an update: I have my booking in appt coming up on Thurs and scan this coming Friday but I got myself really (irrationally) worked up about the fact that that would be over 13 weeks at that point so when I spoke to a lovely midwife last Friday to my complete surprise she said that if I could make it up to the hospital within the next hour she could do the scan then Shock so I drank as much as I could to get the bladder nicely full and DH and I dashed up there.

In short, they did the scan and got a good clear image of heartbeat which was wonderful but according to measurements on the day I was 8+4 at that point (9 weeks today). Sonographer reassured me that it is very accurate and wasn't an underdeveloped 12 week baby which was my first worry, just that I obviously did miss a period prior to conceiving so the good news is that I was lucky enough to get an early scan unintentionally and that I'm not as unobservant as I initially though I was!! The only downside is that I have to wait longer to tell everyone, providing everything is ok at the rebooked 12 week scan.

Also the new dates mean I'll be 11+3 when DH and I are supposed to be flying to Prague for long weekend. I know you're supposed to avoid flying in first trimester but as it's only short-haul and relatively late in trimester I'm in two minds. Will ask MW on Thurs ... any thoughts or similar dilemmas for anyone else?

Teasie · 18/10/2010 18:21

Trinitycalling- my doctor said short haul flights are perfectly ok. I've just returned from Germany, where funnily enough all my sickness went away, and I went to Ireland a few weeks back.. Don't intend to fly again though. Must be the German air but as soon as I got back home the nausea came back!! Confused

TrinityCalling · 18/10/2010 18:22

Hmm sorry everyone have just Googled 'flying in first trimester' and it doesn't seem to be a problem so sorry if I just panicked anyoneBlush. Goodness knows where I got that particular worry from, perhaps my subconscious is just making them up now... Still interested to know if anyone else is flying/travelling while pregnant x
