Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cowboylover · 28/09/2010 19:39

newmaman I am not sure what is considered normal as this is my first but when I over did it last week it let me know with crap all night so I think maybe a sign of 'remember im here!'

Had a little cry to my boss today whos just returned from maternity leave as she was worried I was not myself and quieter than normal, I had a blub and said that I feel like something is taking over my body and I just feel uncomfortable and fat not pregnant at all so I hope it gets better!

DH was laughing with my Mum earlier saying he had his 1st pregnant wife experience last night when I didnt know what I wanted to eat so he look me to Asda to pick something nice, in the car on the way there I decided I wanted rosisery chicken, got there and sold out being 8.30 by this point, burst in the tears, refused all other food and then had to stop the car on the way home to be sick!

We have the booking in appointment on Thursday so im nervously looking forward to meeting her and seeing what happens.

Teasie · 28/09/2010 20:17

fay84- congratulations! trixie123- thanks for the advice.
My husband and I went to the doctor today to register the pregnancy and get advice. Aside from the usual things about unpasteurised and raw food, she said it was fine to eat nuts, have short-haul flights and have the odd glass of wine. I also filled out an NHS form for free prescriptions and dental care for up to a year after the birth- nice!
My gym has told me no bouncing movements so jogging and aerobics are off the menu...also no sit ups or lunges. And the beautician advised no massages.

Now the next thing is to pick a hospital and we need to do that in the next week...We live in SW London so I'll check the other chats here for good hospitals however any advice is welcome!

lilly13 · 28/09/2010 20:31

Hi Teasie, depending on where in SW you live, your choices are probably Chelsea&Westminster, StThomas' and St Mary's. You should visit one or all of them. I visited C&W and it looked quite decent... A friend of mine gave birth a few years ago at St Thomas and was pleased with it, although I found it quite run down and not particularly clean when I visited her there. But things might have changed since then. I heard nice things about St Mary's but have not been there...

Teasie · 28/09/2010 21:23

Thanks lilly13! Before I forget, my doctor told me that once I get my NHS card, I can go into the first class carriage on the overground- good news for those of you who use it :)
Our choices are Chelsea and Westminster, Queen Charlottes, St. Georges, Kingston and West Middlesex. The threads here are fantastic- based on what I've garnered from the other MNers, St. Georges and Kingston seem to be the best. Kingston is closer and they have a really helpful video tour on their website so we have picked them. St. Georges have tours on Mon-Fri between 10.00-15.00 which is no good when you're at work.

I must say the threads here are amazing for getting info!

Hello Mums to be!

We discovered we were pregnant on Sept 20th and are about 7 weeks. I'm SO happy and very excited but also very anxious. I'm becoming obessed with early pregnancy symptons such as nausea and sickness and if I have a day where I feel fine I start to panic (I know I should be happy about these days!!) Is anyone else feeling this way or can offer any advice?

BlueWellies · 28/09/2010 23:16

Hi all,

Out in Spain, finally got the email working dying to catch up with you all - nice to know there is somewhere I can let all the feelings out as hiding it all day is trying, though really as I'm not tired and only hungry and a little nauseous when the hunger pains kick in, there's nothing to hide except pickiness in the food/drink dept. Avoiding wine and jamon here is pretty much impossible, just have to hope everyone else is enjoying the wine so much they're not noticing. Thanks for the tip about ordering drinks Teasie - doesn't work here as they bring to you, but will def try that when back in UK. Two nights to go - didn't think I'd be wishing myself back in freezing north of England, but I guess I've got a baby to worry about now, seems hard to believe!

cowboylover thanks for sharing your story, made me laugh! My OH is already complaining about having to fetch me things, and I seem to be getting away lightly at the mo!

Congratulations waffles1 I also feel the same, but guess it is too early for us? I' also around 7-8 weeks and trying not to worry about it as apparently is not a bad sign!

lilly13 · 29/09/2010 08:05

Hi ladies! Has anyone done 8 week scans to check that the pregnancy is not ectopic and there is a heartbeat? Are these very invasive and have bled afterwards? I signed up for one (privately), but am quite nervious...

DrMel · 29/09/2010 08:15

Hi Ladies
I've just found Mum's net!! Hooray!

I'm so relieved to see a support network out there. I'm 9 weeks pregnant with first baby and feel a total mess - nasty insomnia, spots, frizzy hair, gagging all the time and fat! What a joy I must be to be around! It is such a relief to see that other people are going through similar things!

If anyone has a magical cure for insomnia let me know...has anyone tried hypnotherapy?

jbells · 29/09/2010 09:17

waffles, fay84, drmel

congrats to all :)

dr mel- i have the spots and belly seems fatter already to, we must look lovely lol, i also cudnt sleep for about 2 weeks thankfully this has subsided now hope yours does to

CuppaTeaJanice · 29/09/2010 11:25

Hi Everybody!

I've been posting on the June antenatal thread but I had my booking in appointment yesterday and was given a due date of 29th May, so I thought I'd come and say hello to the May crew too!!

This is my second baby, I have a 2.5 year old DS. Not really had many symptoms yet, except a craving for tuna and pilchards (think I'm turning into a cat!) but I'm sure I'll be yakking up many times in the next few weeks!!!

Smile
BlingLoving · 29/09/2010 11:54

Hello everyone, including newbies to the thread.

Lily13 I'm having a private scan at 7-8 weeks with the doctor who has been treating me for PCOS and who put me on the Clomid. As far as I know, the scan isn't invasive at all. I think they do it internally, yes, but I've had a few of those over the last 18 months and they're fine although it can be a little uncomfortable. Good luck and let me know how it goes so I can prepare for mine in a few weeks.

I think the baby doesn't like tea. Period-like pains arrive about 45 minutes after I have some. As I've already, with a wrench, given up coffee, I'm feeling a bit upset that the tea could be a problem too. I also question if this baby really is mine and DH's. He drinks tea and coffee all day and while I drink much less, I am a monster without at least two cups of tea a day.

lilly13 · 29/09/2010 12:49

Hi BlingLoving, thank you for the words of encouragement. Will let you know how the scan goes next week. I recently read that tea (particularly green tea) can inhibit absorbtion of folic acid and should be avoided during the first trimester. I was shocked, as I gave up coffee, but was loading up on green tea as I thought it was a great anti-oxidant... I am now drinking only mint tea and bottled water with lemon Grin. Maybe, you stop the tea for a while, too? Good luck!

BlingLoving · 29/09/2010 13:17

I read the green tea thing too. Depressing isn't it?

I will do a final, scientific, test on the tea thing today and if it proves to be the case, yes, I'll have to stop. God. That's depressing.

Hot chocolate anyone?

I shouldn't complain. So far I'm a symptom-free zone except for the period-like pain. So really, I'm doing okay [well, when I'm not panicking that because I'm not experiencing symptoms there must be something wrong].

lilly13 · 29/09/2010 16:01

Hot chocolate apparently also contains caffeine. It is caffeine that inhibits the absorbtion of folic acid which is needed to prevent birth defects... However, I got good news for you, if you are addicted to chocolate, try organic raw cacao nibs. Apparently, these do not have very insignificant amount of caffeine (it is a bit counterintuitive imho)... www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/cacao.html
Taste really bitter but could help with morning sickness. Maybe your baby will like these better than tea Wink

funnylittlekaty · 29/09/2010 20:43

So no coffee, tea, booze, or chocolate. Rubbbbiiiiisssshhhhh! Having a right nightmare today as I'm going on a hen weekend in 2 weeks. I'll be 11 weeks and the event thing is at a spa. I phoned today but they said I can't use the spa at all. I'm not that close to the girl whose hen it is, and I don't know the others at all. Excuses for a day of spa and a boozy evening when I can't use the spa or have a drink? Anyone?

lilly13 · 29/09/2010 21:05

Funnylittlekaty, If I were in your shoes and this was not my best friend's hen weekend, I would tell the hen that you got a terrible flu the last minute and cannot make it. I would be very appologetic about it and would probably send her a small basket of flowers with a note that I'd so wish I could be there for her special occasion and that I am so sorry that I would not be able to make it... I think a friend would understand, particularly if she already has a gang of girls coming to party along.... Also, I would not tell anyone except my close family that I am pregnant until 16-20 weeks (I am very superstitious)... This is a personal choice.

Caz10 · 29/09/2010 21:21

Hello all, tentatively marking my place! I reckon I am 6wks pregnant, MN calculator tells me my due date is 24th May. I certainly feel very pregnant, ie sick as a bloody dog! Aargh! This will hopefully be my 2nd dc, dd is almost 3.

trixie123 I pounced on your comment further up re marking books - are you a teacher? How are you coping?! I am finding kids at school, DD at home, school work and sickness a very bad combo at the mo!!

BlingLoving · 30/09/2010 09:33

Funny - I agree with Lilly. You need to pull out at the last minute, be hugely apologetic, send gifts and accept the financial loss of not being there.

If it was a good friend, I'd be tempted to tell her the truth but otherwise, a good excuse and a follow up when you go public will probably suffice.

Lilly - 16 weeks? Really? I'm going for 12 at most and will probably tell my closest friends after the scan we're having next week.

Welcome Caz. We share a due date!

jbells · 30/09/2010 10:33

i have still had no news from hosp or doctor for scan or midwife date, getting very frustrating now grrr

jessi0343 · 30/09/2010 12:15

Hi Ladies, I have a quick, newbie question here: I went to visit my GP a few weeks ago and just today received an Outpatient Appointment letter for "Endocrinology". Is this my 12 week scan? It makes no mention of it

Thanks!

daddy2be · 30/09/2010 12:47

emmywoo, that's funny ... my gf only came off the pill and 2 weeks later we had conceived! Like your hubby ... I have been strutting about the house in pants with the superman logo on the front of the crotch! hehehehe

trixie123 · 30/09/2010 13:00

hi Caz10 yes I am a teacher at secondary level but I only do 2 days (as DS is only 13months) so tiredness is ok. Luckily I don't seem to get sickness (sorry, don't hate me) so thats ok. Last time I had one day around 16 weeks where I felt awful and left classes twice because I thought I was going to throw up. Have no idea how I would have dealt with it if I'd felt like that for ages. The kids don't know yet. Its an all boys school and they don;t really now how to deal with it. My GCSE class last time gave me a round of applause when I told them Grin. Am sitting here mnetting with DS1 asleep and I really should be marking essays but just can't be arsed! How are you getting on? Are you working full time?

Waffle1 see above for feeling fine. I felt so ok when pregnant with DS1 I kept going and buying more tests because I thought it must mean it had just gone away! Embrace it, feel lucky and enjoy your pregnancy. I love being pregnant - everyone is so nice to you all the time Smile

Jessie0343 endocrinology is about diabetes not scans. To avoid a possible wasted visit I would give them a call and just clarify whats going on.

everyone else wave hello (we should have an emoticon for that). Hope you are all ok and enjoying the brief respite from the rain!

cowboylover · 30/09/2010 14:34

I had my booking in appointment today with the midwife and she was really nice! Very down to earth and hippy type so suits me great!

I gave her all my dates and she worked them out totally differently to me and she thinks I am sue in April! She said she will organise the scan soon as she can as she thinks im 11 weeks and then see from there so I may be leaving our little May club but I hope not Smile

flugella · 30/09/2010 15:53

baby no.1 is due May 10th! Very excited in between bouts of stunning sickness!

jbells · 30/09/2010 18:02
