3 weeks to go and discomfort

Hi ladies,

3 weeks to go till due date and for the last few days I have begun to feel really uncomfortable, esp. down below, like something is being stretched/ overstretched. Is this a normal feeling? Is this because the baby is pushing down on the vagina? No Braxton Hicks or anything, just back pain, heavy bump and genital discomfort when I walk around. Just hoping this won't last for next 3 weeks!
Feeling nervous about the birth, too... but looking forward hugely to meeting little one.

I know exactly how you feel, I also have 3 weeks to go. I feel huge, have a constant back ache, baby keeps on punching my bladder and I have a really strange pain that can only be compared with period pain. I am just praying that she will make an appearence soon and not make me go on like this for another 3 weeks!! I too have had no braxton hicks, just feel as though my period is due to start!!

Lia1977 · 06/09/2010 15:48

Hi ladies! EDD 29/09 so I also have 3 weeks to go. Ive been feeling pain down below as well, especially when I walk a lot. I saw MW this morning and apparently pain is the result of baby starting to engage. My baby is 3/5 in terms of engagement. Im a bit worried that I dont have braxton hicks because I really dont want this baby to be overdue. Yesterday I also found out Ive piles:( The joys of pregnancy...

MadameCheese · 06/09/2010 15:56

Me too, baby has probably engaged so yes there will be more pressure on your pelvic floor than before, hence the increase in discomfort in that area. I especially dislike the shooting pains in my nether regions and back being out of whack. I don't think the lack of braxton hicks is anything to worry about though. lola me too re period type pains.

saoirse86 · 06/09/2010 21:30

I'm 37+3 and have all these feelings too. Lots of discomfort down there, it changes between feeling a lot of pressure to sharp pains, sometimes a combination. I was 2/5 4 days ago so it all makes sense. I've been having on/off period type pains.
I'd like to think things will happen soon, but hopefully not this week as I don't start mat leave till thursday, have uni assignments due next tues, and still have things to sort out. Then exams in 5 weeks so this LO has a small time frame for arriving. I hope she's been listening when I've explained it all to her!

watersprite · 06/09/2010 22:10

Hi,

I also have 3 wks to go due 27 Sept and have been having period type cramps from 30 wks but have increased over the past couple of wks. I also feel really uncomfortable down below and it's really hard to walk now, the pressure down there is so intence when I stand up that I feel like any minute she will just pop out Confused The shooting pain are really weird and make me shout which can be embarrassing!
and I've been having really bad tightenings since 30 wks but have also got more intence and last a lot longer, really hope I dont go over.

Good luck ladies :)

cardamomginger · 06/09/2010 23:21

37+1. Same here! I am starting to have seriously had enough. Good luck to all of us!!

OnEdge · 06/09/2010 23:27

I started a similar thread to this one about two weeks ago and went into labour two days later Grin My two week old DD is due on Friday !!

I just felt all wrong, uncomfortable, unsettled and nervous.I had really had enough. I also stayed up until 03.00 packing bag and preparing. Looking back i think it was all signs of labour, so you never know.

ohnororo · 07/09/2010 01:40

37+3 here. Had a private growth scan last Tuesday because i'm measuring large for dates and bebe was 8 estimated to be 8 pounds 2 at 36+3 so I'm a little worried about labour! Hospital suggesting induction at 38/39 weeks but would much prefer to go into labour naturally. I've also been having period type pains on and off all of this week so really hope it's a sign somethings happening! Anyone else find the weight of the bump feels like it's pulling on your abs?and my skin feels too tight! How are you all sleeping?

lolabanola · 07/09/2010 06:22

I'm not sleeping Ohnororo! Seem to have a serious case of insomnia, I can sleep fine from about 9pm - 1 am and then i'm up and down all night, am usually getting up at about 5am, can't sleep in the day either.

Hopefully the rest of us will be early like OnEdge ... I am so fed up of waiting now! ... my body just feels so 'wrong' and I can't get comfortable at all.

nattiecake · 07/09/2010 08:33

36+2 and i've stopped sleeping too! i've gone from sleeping about 23 hours a day to about 3.

and yep, i'm getting all the random discomfort too. baba was 3/5 engaged at my last antenatal, my next one is thurs so we'll see if hes moved down any more.

i'm getting nasty stabbing pain in my cervix so think it may be effacing ready. i think hes gonna be here before his due date... (dont hold me to that though, lol). I also keep getting cramp similar to an upset stomach?

hopingforanother · 07/09/2010 11:36

I'm on 2nd baby and am 36+2. Was 1/5 engaged on Sun. I've got lots to get done at work and seem to have a million appointments of unknown duration due to high BP - best way to give a person high BP is sit them in a hospital waiting room endlessly!

I can relate to the achey period type pains. And the little wriggler seems to be turning somersaults today, ust to make it all a bit LESS comfortable! My DD was born at 37+3 but I didn't have any build up, just woke up in labour and DD born 8 hours later, so I'm not sure how indicative it is!

Does anyone else get pins and needles in their hands while sleeping and then wake up really achey?

Dreemagurl · 07/09/2010 13:06

Definitely getting the pins and needles hoping - not fun especially as sleeping is so difficult at the mo. I'm 34+2 but having the same feelings as the rest - really achey down below, and was having serious problems walking normally just now - felt like a watermelon was squeezing between my nethers! Hoping this isn't going to turn into pre-term labour, but on the other hand, my LO has been really low down for weeks now. Got midwife tomorrow and wouldn't be surprised if she says she's starting to be engaged. Hope you all get what you're hoping for - keep posting! :)

hopingforanother · 07/09/2010 15:39

Dreemagurl yes I definately had a(nother) down turn in how I felt at 35 weeks, with achiness and lack of sleep too!

Is it your first LO? I think they engage quite early sometimes - though I don't think I actually noticed engagement the first time! Good luck with the midwife tomorrow - hope all is well!

nattiecake · 07/09/2010 16:38

Dreemagurl, mine was engaged at 30 weeks so its def possible :)

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 07/09/2010 16:49

I'm due on 28th Sept and completely fed up. Back ache, pins and needles and no sleep make Grotbags very grumpy. Poor DH has moved into the spare room as i wake him as i try to turn over. Poor DS wants to know where his nice mummy has gone.

I just want to wave a magic wand and my house be spotless and in order, to have loads of energy, to work out how to remove the cover from my car seat so i can wash it and to sleep comfortably.

Then this baby can arrive!

hopingforanother · 07/09/2010 18:57

Yes the carseat cover conundrum is enough to drive a person insane at the best of times grotbags I did mine at about 28 weeks and it was hard enough then - you have my sympathy!

I am swinging between looking forward to a few days glorious 'me' time once I finish work and just wanting the baby to arrive asap. There are good points to both! I know though that even if I get this lovely time between ending work and giving birth I'll find something ridiculous to fill it with like dusting light switches and re-organising the airing cupboard...

Ah but even though the last bit is uncomfy, aggravating, tear jerking and pins and needly, isn't it lovely to know your little one will be here soon?!!! [hormonal].

watersprite · 08/09/2010 21:07

Hi,

I'm so not sleeping that during the day I feel like a zombie. Every little movement now seems to bring on another tightening :( the period type cramps are getting worse a long with the bk ache and dragging down feeling I have down there.

Booked an appontment with midwife tomorrow as I feel like something is going on, felt off colour all day today and started being sick last night, I'm hopeing she will say something good like I'm at lease starting to dilate. First pregrenancy was like this but It took ages to dilate, one day I would be 1cm then nothing for a couple of days then by day 4 I was 4cm.

Fed up now and soooo uncomfortable, sorry for the moan feel a little better for it.

Good luck ladies :)

watersprite · 08/09/2010 21:09

Forgot to mention 37+2

excitedmummy2be · 08/09/2010 21:24

I'm 32+2. Just reading the posts here about a painful fanjo. I have this... Feels like I've got a bowling ball in my knickers! It makes it really uncomfortable to walk. Could this be the baby is engaged already?? If so, should I be worried about pre term labour? Any advice gratefully received :)

hopingforanother · 09/09/2010 08:45

Hi excitedmummy I don't know about pre-term labour but it sounds like your baby is engaging - nattiecake and dreemagurl have posted above with the same sort of thing!

Watersprite how are you feeling? When are you off to see your midwife? I've got an appointment today too.

Feeling slightly edgy about my horrible hospital at the mo :-( wondering if I'll be able to give birth in a hedge/airing cupboard/anywhere else on earth instead but I need antibiotics so have to go there :-(

Confident people - please post tips for effectively refusing things you don't want?!!

Dreemagurl · 09/09/2010 12:29

Hoping - yes it is my first (and possibly my last! Smile). Midwife said yesterday she wasn't engaged yet but was definitely low down. Have to say I don't have the greatest of trust in my MW though, bless her, not sure she's all there.... I'm needing to pee every half an hour, and as soon as I get the urge it really starts to hurt (sorry TMI) so I gotta go immediately! I think she's engaging and popping out again - is this possible?

hopingforanother · 09/09/2010 13:44

Yes I think it is possible for them to move up and down still, and I'm not sure it's an exact science deciding whether they are a bit engaged or not at all engaged either...?

Just got back from my m/w appt and she has declared LO engaged! This is quite exciting news at 36+4 with DC2 - esp as I had my DD at 37+4 last time around! Oh just need to finish work first though..... She has also exceeded my expectation in making me feel better about hospital!

Dreemagurl · 09/09/2010 14:27

That's very exciting - congrats :) Hope it's not a long wait for you (but yes, probably best to finish work first....! Grin)

watersprite · 09/09/2010 21:15

Hoping
Glad to here the little ones engaged :) As for the hospital I didn't have any faith in mine so I ended up being transfered to another but this was quite early on in the pregnancy and it's the best thing I've ever done :)

Went to see midwife at GP's today, what a waste of time! told her all about what I'd mentioned earlier in my post and all she could say was that she wouldn't examine me as because I'm under a different hospital it's their policy not too :( Why did I bother going! also (sorry TMI) last night I felt like their was something pushing out from down below so I took a look and one side of down their is so swollen and purple bit like a soft lump. Mentioned this to midwife who again told me about their policy and said I would need to speak to hospital when I'm nxt their Angry.

So really fed up today, think I will just stick to having appointments at the hospital from now on.

Dreemagurl · 10/09/2010 10:41

watersprite - seriously, she wouldn't examine you? What would they do if you went into labour right then and there - refuse to deliver your baby because it's "not their policy"?? Honestly - the bureaucracy of this country sometimes..... Hope someone has the sense to have a look at you soon and you find out what's going on, good luck! :)
