Hi all, im seven weeks pregnant and recently have been feeling a bit sick. At first i thought it was all in my head but its getting worse. I have not actually vomited yet...does vomiting usually follow or will i just continue to feel sick.
Dont get me wrong i am over the moon that im expecting but feeling sick is not something im used to feeling everyday and it is worrying first time round. How did you feel??????

Seasick until 16 weeks, with comedy retching and was actually sick twice.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! It's all worth it, I promise!

Lizzylou · 31/08/2005 11:33

Hi trin, I am 13 weeks pg with my 2nd...this time round I have had a lot of nausea, I have found that if I don't eat (especially first thing in the morning) I feel very ill. I have only actually vomitted a few times but everyone is different, last time I wasn't ill at all! Lots of people swear by ginger beer and ginger biscuits to help combat the nausea....
Congratulations and good luck, hope you start feeling better soon

anchovies · 31/08/2005 11:33

With my first pg I didn't feel that bad but was sick all the time, usually with very little warning. This time I have felt really, really bad but not been sick very often, lots of wretching but not much actual being sick! Good news is I am now nearly 14 weeks and starting to feel normal again!

You will find something's that help you feel better, with me I definitely felt worse when I was either hungry or tired so plenty of snacks and sleep definitely helped. They say ginger ale is supposed to help to but it made me feel worse!

swiperfox · 31/08/2005 11:33

Hiya, i'm 7/8 weeksd and i'm soooooooooooo sick at the moment! I haven't actually been sick yet but the feeling is there all day long. It's making me miserable as Hell!!!!!

Congratulations by the way

swiperfox · 31/08/2005 11:34

orange lucozade helps me a bit

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 11:35

First pregnancy I felt less sick - am 20 weeks pg with second, btw.

Trin · 31/08/2005 11:40

Thank you hunkermunker. Its all scary!!! I am learning to except that there will be pains as there is a baby growing inside me. I can deal with the pains but its feeling sick at work or out in the public. Just the thought of being sick in public...i wouldnt mind if i had a bump because its obvious then.Even the thought of my other half passing wind makes me feel queezy....How am i going to cope????? ive got months to go yet!

Lizzylou · 31/08/2005 11:41

It'll pass soon, Trin!

swiperfox · 31/08/2005 11:42

It really does get better - the sickness will just suddenly disappear and you will move into the stage where you feel brill and love everything about being pregnant

Trin · 31/08/2005 11:43

Thank you everyone. Its nice to know im not the only one who is experiencing the sickness. I know its all worth it in the end but you dont think that when you got your head stuck in the toilet. Work have given me some sick bowls but id rather not be sick infront of people.

One more thing, once you have actually been sick does the feeling go away? Dont want to sound stupid but in the past when i felt sick and then vomited after i felt much better. Is it like that????

anchovies · 31/08/2005 11:48

It was in my first pg but this time it doesn't help at all! You'll have to try it to find out

swiperfox · 31/08/2005 11:49

afraid not - at least not with me. You might not actually be sick. I've felt on the verge of being sick for the last two weeks but nothing's happened yet thank goodness!! It generally all goes away around the 12 week mark....

Have you got your due date yet?

RosiePosie · 31/08/2005 11:58

Morning sickness is the worst part of pregnancy, in my opinion. It really is horrendous. With all three of mine, I have felt horribly nauseous all day, but never actually been sick. Lots of retching though. Was nauseous until 11 weeks with my first, 18 weeks with my second, and it's just easing off now at 14 weeks with my third. Hang on in there, it seems to go on forever, but it will soon be over. Hopefully for you it will disappear around the 12 weeks mark. Eating constantly and lucozade helped me.

Trin · 31/08/2005 12:35

My due date is around the 25th of April. I dont think about giving birth yet as i want to reach 12 weeks safely but its hard as all my friends have got little ones and thats all they seem to talk about.

MT, I once said that to MW, just the look on her face told me it was not the right thing to say .

Thomcat · 31/08/2005 12:43

I felt constantly naseous, would dry retch in toilets at work, esp bad in the afternoons.
Only actually threw up a few times and felt better when I did that, found the just feeling sick but not being quite tough.

Try herbal teas like lemon and ginger.
Eat ginger nut biscuits.

Mine started pretty much straight away and went away just after I reached the 3 month stage.

I also found that complete exhaustion in the afternoons aded to feeling sick, the 2 things together feel pretty rubbish.

But, you're pregnant and that's just great and worth every second spent feling rough.

With my first I felt sick all the time up to about 14 weeks and then I suddenly realised one day it had gone. Never was sick. Lived on cheese salad sandwiches and lucozade most of the time!!!

SIL expecting twins next week was vomitting all day every day for 4/5 months so I guess we were luckly!!

munz · 31/08/2005 12:58

i'm pg with my first and had sickness from about 5 weeks (not sure if it was nerves or not) anyhow got gradually worse I drank ginger ale, but it gradually went around 8 weeks and not I just feel sick aroound meal times - great way to maintain a good diet cos I eat to stop feeli sick also found milk to help and dry buscuts! seems i've been lucky with mine.

8 weeks was the start of the really vivid erotic dreams!

nonstarter · 31/08/2005 12:59

Just be aware that if you are actually vomiting several times a day, dehydration may occur and get your GP to take it seriously.

My biggest mistake was believing that the miserable female GP on duty knew what she was talking about when she sighed dramatically and belittled my symptoms.

Dooberry8683 · 31/08/2005 13:05

OOh Munz! I will be 8 weeks on Saturday hope I will get some of those dreams. lol

LilacLotus · 31/08/2005 13:11

i was sick every day several times a day from 8 weeks till past 20 weeks. i didn't really keep anything down. eating little bits throughout the day helped a bit. i always made sure i drank enough water. DP didn't want to tell his parents until the 20 week scan, so we had loads of visits to their house with me looking green and wanting to run to the bathroom, but they never suspected anything.

PeachyClair · 31/08/2005 14:30

Hi

I went through this, right to the on a drip treatment for rehydration.

I later went on to volunteer for a hyperemesis (for hyperemesis gravidarum is iit's name) charity, the website is

blooming awful web site - loads of great tips on here.

Please feel free to CAT me if you need support too

Nbg · 31/08/2005 14:37

Hiya Trin
Congratulations

I bought some of those sea sickness bands from the chemist. They really helped me.
I also lived on Rich Tea biscuits and oranges for the first few weeks.

Someone I worked with bought me some crystalised ginger from the health food shop. I couldn't eat it but everyones different. It may help.

My sickness passed around 12 weeks and it was then I started to feel alot better.
