Hi all, im seven weeks pregnant and recently have been feeling a bit sick. At first i thought it was all in my head but its getting worse. I have not actually vomited yet...does vomiting usually follow or will i just continue to feel sick.
Dont get me wrong i am over the moon that im expecting but feeling sick is not something im used to feeling everyday and it is worrying first time round. How did you feel??????

I was lucky - only sick for about 3 or 4 weeks.
I found that nibbling biscuits 'little and often' and sipping ice-cold Perrier helped!

And flat cola, melon, lettuce (anything with H20 in!) all help too. And most importantly rest. lots of. very important indeed.

I had hyperemesis too in my first pregnancy, tbh it was bad enough to put me off having any more till the hormones took over 3 years later and I got broody and conceived my db! Am 5 1/2 weeks now and already up in the night throwing up.

People will tell you that morning sickness is actually a positive because it shows there are high levels of HGC in the bloodstream which means the baby is growing well. Fiddlesticks to that let them try throwing up every time they smell something their body doesnt like!

lol at the throwing up in public thing, and yes it does look a little worse if you dont have a visible bump. I remember walking to work once down the round and being sick 4 times in the gutter/gardens/dustbins etc on the way to work. It was a monday morning and you could see people looking at you like a drunkard! I particularly found the "rough weekend" comment every time someone walked past!

on the plus side (for a me at least as I am well swaddled in chocolate induced padding) I lost a fair amount of weight during pregnancy and was lighter the day before I gave birth than I was when I conceived. Plus being sick that often really improves your gag reflex, so you throw up very easily without a lot of straining when you are travel sick or drunk (long after pregnancy and breastfeeding for the drunk bit obviously!) which means you dont just loll around feeling nauseous, you actually throw up and feel better.

If you find you do throw up a lot and are getting a bit bored with it all you could set yourself challenges e.g. see how far you can project, or set a little target up on the wall - it's a bit of fun!

On a more helpful note, I found eating a couple of rich tea biscuits lying down before sitting up in bed in the morning was helpful and drinking lots of fluids.

Also, try taking your folic acid or multivitamin at your least sicky time of day.

Little and often, eat what you fancy and drink lots of water and fruit juices.

Hope you feel better soon

I was 1.5 stone lighter 24 before del;ivery too.... although I gained that weight by delivery (pre-eclampsia. I had no luck)

All the research I read, and this was backed up by the sixty or so hyperemesis sufferers i spoke to whilst on the info line, was that whilst different things DO work for different people, the key is to cherish yourself, rest whenever you can, accept that you are genuinely ill (and not as you will be told 'just having a normal PG symptom), and go to the Dr (repeatedly if necessary) for treatment if needed. There are lots of medicines they can prescribe, the one I took after trialling a few worked wonders for me, and I used it at the worst points of my subsequent PG's as well.

If you cannot keep water down, then you need help quickly- I ended up on a drip for 24 hours because I wasn't oushy enough.

Hi, can anyone tell me are home testing kits usually accurate?

PeachyClair · 01/09/2005 20:52

Yes, they are very reliable nowadays, I have never known a Dr retest after a positive shop test
