Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Oh Preggers - have been looking out for you!

Are you ready to reveal yourself yet? How are you coping? Is eveyrthing starting o feel a bit more real now?

splash · 09/09/2003 15:20

hi to all. good list preggers!please can you reveal your identity, surely its time to tell now. i have been feeling sick all day on and off and when i feel like this it makes me want to have something to eat or drink sugary things. i cant drink tea at all. this all kicked in a week last monday. also i have been feeling really tired since the weekend. when do you start to put on weight? i am overweight at the moment anyway and i cant wait to properly belong to the maternity clothes club so that i dont feel so bad about my weight. my boobs are so big.. my hubby is a boobs and bum man so im ok there. i am always envious of those who lose weight for the first three months. i am eating more to stop from feeling sick. this morning i actually was sick during cleaning teeth, i usually wretch lately, but this morning some was coming up!! enough of that for you queesy mums! speaking of queesy did anyone watch delia smith last night with those eggs!!yuck yuck!
i have a scan on friday also another one in two weeks. im feeling positive about seeing my baby on telly on friday. and i know this was naughty but i actually bought something the other day for the new little one. it feels supersticious or something and that im not allowed.

dot1 · 09/09/2003 16:01

I'm SURE I've put on weight, but can't bring myself to weigh myself - but my boobs have expanded so much there must be a few lbs up there alone...! Am dreading getting weighed tomorrow, as I'm quite overweight anyway - am getting ready to be told off...(midwife won't know I lost 3 stone before getting pregnant - I used to be huge..!).

Just had a bit of a funny turn - stood up quickly, got a bad pain in my side and went all dizzy. Very embarrassing as I'm at work and was talking to someone - so now they're all asking if I'm OK - bless! Feel alright now but it's weird having to be careful - move slower - all the time. Like turning over in bed still gives me a bit of pain if I'm not slow, and getting out of bed makes me dizzy.

What a palaver!

Glad I am not the only one expanding early! Preggers, great list . It seems this intermittent nausea is quite common, I have been having it on and off. Weirdly, I cant eat meat. I used to be vegetarian for 17 years and only started eating meat when I got pg with ds. I was obsessed with eating as much steak as I could. Now I have reverted back to vegetarianism, the thought of meat makes me feel ill, so does Asda for some strange reason. When I was pg with ds, I couldnt go to Asda for months because it made me feel sick, Sainsburys was ok though, the same has happened this time too.

preggers · 09/09/2003 21:41

bunny2 - ROFL at your aversion to supermarkets. Maybe its the putrid green of Asda that puts you off and all those floating green uniforms

Actually wish I didn't type that - I feel a bit queasy now.

hewlettsdaughter · 09/09/2003 21:43

Ooh, weird, bunny2 - wonder what it is about Asda? Maybe they pipe some kind of artificial smell in their stores...
I'm glad some of you have said about needing to eat more often - that's happening to me too.

bunny2 · 09/09/2003 21:47

It's odd isnt it? Tescos was fine today but my MIL gave me some Asda vouchers and I wanted to check out their maternity range but I cant, it really does make me want to heave. I think it's a subconscious association with the horrors they use in their adverts (hope noone here has familiy members in Asda ads !)

Lilysmum · 10/09/2003 10:05

Haven't noticed an aversion to supermarkets - but then I am very, very lucky not to be experiencing nausea or sickness.

I am expanding around the waistline too! This is definitely not baby and definitely due to a lack of self control and being a pig in my case. Pre-pregnancy I was very strict with food (never, ever ate chip, chocolate, cakes, biscuits etc - big on self denial), but all bets are off now and I am merrily chomping through 'banned foods'.

On nuchal fold scans - I'm having one too on the 6th October in London (having to pay for it privately), at the risk of offending those of you who feel strongly about it - I know that I would not be prepared to carry a downs baby to full term. Feel a bit guilty about my attitudes on this (i.e. should be pc and love baby even if it suffers handicaps)- but am a flawed individual I suppose.

preggers · 10/09/2003 10:58

Lilysmum - how did you go about organising your private scan ? And could I ask how much it is - if that is not a rude question ??

preggers · 10/09/2003 11:00

PS - meant to say at least Lilysmum you are giving your honest opinion. I must admit I wouldn't really know what to do. I sincerely hope its a decision I won't have to make because it is a tough one

dot1 · 10/09/2003 14:13

Hello!

Preggers - I'm having a private nuchal scan aswell in London next week - I booked it through the fetal medicine centre - they've got a website but I'm not clever enough to do a link (it's www.fetalmedicine.com). I had an 8 week scan there a few weeks ago and they were lovely. The nuchal scan there costs £130.

Talking of scans, I had one today at my booking in appointment - hurrah! Still can't believe there's a baby in there - but all's well - could see him/her kicking away! They confirmed my dates and no problems so far.

Bunny2 - I'm so glad you mentioned about Asda! I've had this bizarre reaction to our local M&S food store since being pregnant, but haven't even mentioned it to dp! I love M&S food stores, but every time I've been in it recently I've started feeling really sick.... so strange. I don't get it in Tescos/Sainsburys, but definitely as soon as I walk into M&S!

No use avoiding me preggers...............i'll find out who u r eventually!

bluecow · 10/09/2003 20:04

I love the whole supermarket sickness thing . And my dh thinks I'm weird. My aversion is mostly to the fridge - the smell makes me want to chunder. Have gone off tea and butter, oddly - though can eate numb e number laden spreads. In fact have gone off most foods and most meals are cornflakes at the mo. Tell a lie, my last meal was cornflakes and two liquorice allsorts.
Dot1 - so pleased you've seen your baby live and kicking at last!

bluecow · 10/09/2003 20:05

Hm - make that 'can eat e-number laden spreads' even. Oh and pints of squash (any flavour)

Lilysmum · 11/09/2003 09:19

Preggers,

I am going to the same place as Dot - the Fetal Medicine Centre in London (137 Harley Street, not far from Regents Park tube stop).

The telephone number is 020 7486 0476

emmagee · 11/09/2003 19:29

Mmm things to avoid with chronic nausea....emptying out the compost bucket, nappy bin, kitchen bin! My son having violent upset stomach at 3 in the morning and making tuna mayo sarnies for my 4 year old at lunch time! I think I'll give Asda a miss!

bunny2 · 11/09/2003 23:08

Dot1, at least giving M&S a miss will save you a few quid!

Lilysmum, good for you being so honest. I think sometimes we tiptoe around an issue becasue we are scared of causing offence. I have opted for a NT scan but I would almost certainly keep the baby, I had a termination when I was younger and couldnt go through another. Still, if the scan brings unhappy news perhaps I will change my mind. Who knows. Just want it to be over with so I can relax a little. 4 weeks till mine.

quackers · 12/09/2003 09:38

Hi all, hope you;re all ok!!! Bunny just wanted to ask if u had seen Thomcats story, it'sin Other subjects and called my story. It is just the best! Her daughter has downs and now that I've seen that, I would find it hard to end. xxx

bunny2 · 12/09/2003 22:03

Hi Quacks, ta for that, yes I read it, it is a beautiful tribute and made me cry. After reading it I decided my mind was made up, I wouldnt abort a Downs baby, I have veered towards this anyway (as I mentioned I have had an abortion many years ago and I dont think it is a decision I could repeat). But ... who knows until we are actually faced with that decision, what we would decide. Glad to read you got the green light, go girl!

Lilysmum · 15/09/2003 10:41

Gosh I must be really hard nosed! I've read thomcats story and also found it very moving and uplifting - nevertheless it didn't change my mind....

What puts me off is the life long responsibility. I've seen older people in their 60's and 70's who should be 'slowing' down, accompanied by an adult downs child (and all the continuing responsibility this entails). Also I don't think I could hack the stares and curiousity of the general public ....

Still, I very much admire those with more backbone than me who would unquestionably birth a downs child and stoically accept the challenges that accompany this

preggers · 16/09/2003 12:20

Hi erveryone. Had my bloods taken at the drs yesterday , but the dr has refered me to Kings for my nuchal scan at my request. As I am classed as relatively low risk he warned me that there is sometimes a very long wait - sometimes over 4 hrs. Oh well - can't wait to see the scan though. I think for me it is the only way I'll be convinced that there is actually something inside my flabby belly I've been feeling a lot more sicker too although it tends to be restricted to intermittent bouts. Also I am suffering from a sore lower back. Strange as already this pg is turning out to be v different from my other one.

bluecow · 16/09/2003 12:28

Preggers - does that mean sitting there for 4 hours with a full bladder or is the technology a little more advanced there?!
My scan (dating/nuchal) is October 6.
My pregnancy this time round is panning out differently too - my sickness is not as bad as last time, though I have my gagging moments!

dot1 · 17/09/2003 12:01

Hi,

I had to miss my nuchal scan yesterday as I wasn't too well - a migraine caused by a muscle going into spasm in my neck. Still at least it wasn't anything to do with the pregnancy (apart from the stress of it all probably doing my neck in!). So that's a bit sad, and I think I'm probably going to miss the 'window' to get the scan done, as I'm 12 + 1 today, and I think you can only have it done up to 13 weeks - and there's no time to go!

I've discovered what's making me throw up - fruit!! Twice now I've eaten a nectarine, or bits of orange and then about half an hour later, that's it...Shame really as I've always been completely unhealthy when it comes to eating fruit and veg (i.e. I don't!) but have been trying to make a bit of an effort - but it's no use...!

Hope everyone else is doing OK - I'm really impatient now to get a bump! A friend of mine has just given me a ton of maternity clothes and I know it's really sad, but I can't wait to start wearing them!

Bad luck on missing the scan Dot. You should get one around 20 weeks. I will be getting into my mat clothes very soon me thinks.

My nausea seems to be getting worse, I was dry heaving this morning and spent most of Sunday on the couch feeling ill. The only thing I can do is keep eating carbohydrates, meat makes me gag esp chicken, urggh can hardly write it.

Has anyone else got Strep B? Or anyone Rhesus neg?
