Anyone due in April 2004?!

Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Udar - isn't it horrible when it comes back? I find eating v. regularly helps aswell - back to my eating something plain every 3 hours or so. I've only been sick once - a few weeks ago - but I'm feeling nauseas all the time again. Must be the whole growth/being tired thing... ooh - I found drinking a lot more water helps aswell! My energy levels are still OK, although I had a really tiring away day work thing yesterday which I'd normally sail through, but knocked me sideways - went to bed at 9am and I've crawled into work late today...

Not quite so bad today as had late night snack.

Had our tour of the hospital last night at antenatal. I'm pleasantly surprised by it all and how friendly everybody was on the ward. The facilities look good and everything was clean (although the ward was very very warm).

Lesley76 · 05/02/2004 12:44

You only have ONE late night snack??!!??Well I suppose I only have one too - if the one about 11pm or midnight is the late night one??? And supper at 8 or 9pm.......... And the early breakfast at 4am.........

vict17 · 05/02/2004 19:10

Hi! I had my 1st antenatal class last night - there were loads of people there and they said end March/early April will be a very busy time! We looked round the labour ward too - the operation bit where they do caesareans was really scary, it looked like a torture chamber! I've been midnight snacking too - philedelphia sandwiches at 4am and chocolate spread on toast at midnight. 3 more weeks at work after this week and then it's maternity leave - yippee!

hewlettsdaughter · 05/02/2004 19:16

When is everyone due? I am due 22 April but get the feeling several of you are further on than me.
Fennel, I am doing pregnancy yoga too - it's nice and relaxing isn't it.

Fennel · 05/02/2004 20:02

yes the pregnancy yoga was nice and relaxing. I'm starting aquanatal classes tomorrow, I have to admit I love pregnancy exercise classes, it's so friendly being surrounded by others at the same stage (everyone looking bloated and tired together).

Lesley76 · 05/02/2004 23:29

I'm due 17 April but trying not to set too much store on exact date........guess it will come when its ready!!!
Tried to sign up for antenatal classes weeks ago but there are no local NCT classes and the ones at the hospital are mornings only and have no creche. Seems a bit stupid really - I can't be the first woman ever to be pregnant AND have a toddler???!!!!
Thank you to the person who suggested that the pain in my hands and wrists was carpal tunnel syndrome - you were right and i am getting supports at the hospital next week.Pain in hips now much reduced so am sleeping much better ( although you may wonder why I'm sufing at this time of night!!) Have now stopped work ( hope you are all jealous) so its relief at not having to deal with my * boss again for ages!!!

dot1 · 06/02/2004 09:02

I'm due March 31st, and it's my first so I know I'm almost bound to go into April (although for sanity's sake I'm thinking it'll be on my due date so not long to go now...). Still got 3 weeks left to work (must be crazy!) but am taking a few days leave when we finally move house - still not completed but hopefully that'll happen Monday/Tuesday next week! Then we're going to paint and stuff for a week and then move in - I'll be about 35 weeks pregnant..! Note to self: moving across the country, working full-time, moving in with your Mum, having a toddler and buying a house when you're v. pregnant is not the best idea!! Good job I've got my wonderful dp who has really kept everything going in the past 3 months - she's a flipping star!

I'm due 31st March by hospital. Thought I was actually due on 6 April by my calculations using ovulation dates, but using the pregnancy calculator page on another thread it predicts about the 25 March so who has a clue...
My antenatal classes haven't said anything about it being busy at our due time but I remember seeing something in the paper about how last summer being so hot is going to cause a baby boom in early spring - hopefully I'll still get to try the pool out.

vict17 · 06/02/2004 19:07

Hi. I've had a few different due dates ranging from 25th - 30th March from various scans! I think I'll be April too cos it's my 1st baby. And I've got 3 weeks to go at work - counting down the days now Hope you are all well.

bluecow · 07/02/2004 20:26

Hi all - been away from Mumsnet as have been staying at parents who are sadly Net-less. Basically it's cos we are having an extension built (work started in the summer so you can imagine how miffed we are, to say the least, that it's not finished yet). Anyway a few weeks ago our kitchen was exposed to the elements as they took doors and bits of walls down so I just about had had enough of being freezing and having to negoitiate rubble on the floor. So me and ds have taken refuge at my parents. Dh works away so is only home a few nights a week.

Bump-wise we're doing ok! My back's giving me a lot of gip - sometimes after lying down it gets really painful and I can only get out of bed by pulling myself up using the bedhead!

Heartburns's bad but not as bad as Dot's was by the sound of it - Gaviscon usually works for me though I have found using an extra pillow has stopped me needing to swig quite so much during the night. I've put on about a stone so far, I think.

My due date is April 15 and it can't come soon enough!

hewlettsdaughter · 08/02/2004 19:18

Hi bluecow, we have just been through the whole extension thing - December was our worst month, we went and stayed in a Travel Inn for 3 days. Still some bits to do, but it's all liveable in now. Hope yours is getting better! Good luck for completion, dot1 (and yes, I am jealous of you stopping work Lesley!)

dot1 · 09/02/2004 09:17

Bluecow - are you back at home now? Hope all the work is done/gets done v. soon - it's tooooo stressful worrying about house stuff aswell as everything else..!

Woke up this morning and bump seems to have doubled in size - it's almost obscene! Don't know if baby's in a different position or something, or if it's had a growing spurt but it's really weird - dp and my Mum just laughed when they saw it..!

handlemecarefully · 09/02/2004 10:02

I'm due 19th April. Went into labour with dd on my due date, so I 'expect' this one to be punctual too. Will be most indignant and peed off if he goes overdue...

Will anyone be taking raspberry leaf?

Found out why I am tired - a recent blood test says I'm anaemic!

dot1 · 09/02/2004 10:14

I'll be taking everything I can to get this baby moving (as long as we've unpacked the baby stuff so it's got something to wear!).

I've been worrying a bit - might start a new thread - 'cos I don't feel at all 'bonded' or attached to bump - how does everyone else feel at this stage? When it's wriggling (which feels like all the time) I just feel irritated 'cos it's slightly uncomfortable. When dp was pregnant I used to talk to her bump all the time, and prod it around and felt really bonded, but now I'm pregnant I just don't feel the same - just want it out... I do worry if it's not moved for a while, but that's about it.

Let me know how you're feeling towards your bumps..!

OP posts:
udar · 09/02/2004 11:24

Have bought the Rasberry Leaf Tea already - going to start at 34 wks with one cup a day.
Have certainly been bonding with the baby loads - The house was silent and dh and I told it goodnight and 'love you' last night and got rewarded with visible movement which was lovely. I agree dot1 it is starting to get uncomfortable when the baby wriggles and it does feel like all the time but I'm pleased to say that it seems to sleep all night still which I'm hoping will be a habit that continues.
Very proud of ourselves as this weekend we washed all the baby clothes in preparation for some hospital bag packing next weekend. Didn't realise how many things we have that are 'do not tumble dry'.

dot1 · 09/02/2004 11:34

aarrgghh!! Hospital bag packing - my hospital bag is in storage, along with everything that needs to go in it!! (not that I'm stressed or anything). I have to say the one thing that's helping me slightly with the bump/bonding thing is that ds is starting to take an interest in it - blows raspberrys on it and hugs it! That makes me feel better - I'm feeling guilty we're going to be throwing his life upside down, but we talk a lot about the baby and how it won't take his toys etc. - although he's started to offer it his dummy - so touching as that's a big gesture!

Baby gets v. active if I lie on my right hand side at night, which is my tummy to dp's back, so we all lie there wide awake!

OP posts:
Metrobaby · 09/02/2004 14:11

Gosh udar you sound organised ! We are still in the midst of decorating the baby's room so I haven't organised all the baby's clothes and equipment yet. I'm hoping that I'll get around to it when I start ML whch I am counting down the weeks to.

I'm due on the 20th April btw. Its come around v fast.

I'm don't think I'll be taking raspberry leaf tea. I tried the capsules last time and they were hiue and tasted awful taken in a drink.

dot1 your ds sounds lovely

Metrobaby · 09/02/2004 14:16

dot1 - forgot to say that I haven't bonded with the bump at all either. I just tend to get frustrated that it seems to be in the way. Also I am a bit scared of becoming attached to it too in case if anything happens too. For me with dd, the bonding process took ages to happen anyway - even after she was born. I think I had to get to know her and the idea of being a Mum, so I must admit I am not overly concerned about the bonding thing now

Gosh - I sound like a cruel and heartless mummy. Promise I am not, and love my dd to bits!

dot1 · 09/02/2004 14:41

thanks Metrobaby - I'm just worried 'cos I bonded instantly with ds - although maybe I 'had to' in a way 'cos he wasn't biologically mine? Now I'm pregnant I just don't feel the same way, but again, maybe I've got that luxury now I'm carrying this one. I don't know - I suppose I still haven't got over the fact that pregnancy's not been how I always imagined it would be - too many floaty images in my head and reality's been much tougher!

OP posts:
udar · 09/02/2004 15:06

Maybe it makes a difference with the bonding as it is no.1 and all in all (apart from the damn back pain) it has been a pretty easy pregnancy for me.
I don't go on maternity leave until 19 March yet due date is on 31 so need to have things a little bit more organised for the 'just in case'. It is also in my nature...(virgo)
No nursery to decorate or anything as d? will be sleeping in a cot beside ours for the first 6 months. The cot is being put up this weekend. We still seem to have lists of 'things to do' and 'things still to buy'.

dot1 · 09/02/2004 15:31

Blimey you're working late into your pregnancy Udar! Hope you'll be OK energy-wise - can you finish earlier if you're feeling too tired?

We had planned to have ds in our room for the first few months - it turned out he was the most noisy sleeper in the world and we chucked him into his own room at 6 weeks so dp and I could get some sleep! Just in case you might want to think about getting the nursery done sooner anyway! You never know how it's going to work out....!

We've got a few bits to buy - another Moses Basket so we've got one upstairs and one downstairs - the stairs in our new house are pretty steep, so the less we've got to haul around the better! (top tip from when ds was a baby - if you can, get 2 of everything - for upstairs and downstairs - so you don't have to spend precious energy/time going up and down..!).

OP posts:
Lesley76 · 09/02/2004 15:37

I am seriously impressed by how organised you all are!!! We havent bought one thing for the baby yet, although already have things like cot, car seat and buggy from last time. All we've done is start to clear out some of things from what will be the baby's room (now my office).

Dot1 - I don;t feel particularly bonded to bump either. Until recently found all the movements reassuring, but now its getting a bit uncomfortable.

NOW FEELING LIKE VERY BAD MOTHER

Have been given wrist supports for carpal tunnel syndrome. They are about 6 inches long and go from your knuckles over your wrists. They are VERY noticable. Too early to tell if they help the pain. However are extremely good at making friends/colleagues/family and husband feel very guilty to see you doing ANYTHING and want to make you cups of tea and carry things for you. I would recommend them for this reason alone. Dr at hospital told me to tell DH that I wasn't to do any housework for the rest of the pregnancy. Didn't want to tell him I don't do any anyway.

NOW FEELING LIKE VERY BAD PERSON

Ps Should point out, in the interests of fairness, that I have the BEST husband in the world who has pampered me since the day I conceived this baby & doesn't really need any more prompting to look after me..............

bea · 09/02/2004 15:57

dot1!!!

you can have the winnie pooh moses basket!!!! back...!!! will talk to you/e mail you later!

Metrobaby · 09/02/2004 16:00

we had dd in our room for about 12 weeks before we cracked too. Like dot1 ds, dd was a noisy sleeper and I couldn't relax enough to get any decent sleep. DH slept fine nonetheless of course. DD ended up sleeping in a half decorated room.

lesley your post made me laugh ! Enjoy your DH's pampering too.
