Anyone due in April 2004?!

Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

I don't care! I honestly can't believe I could feel much worse than I have done in this flipping pregnancy..! I'm craving my old body - with its many (many) faults! Yes, the lack of sleep is going to be a killer, but I reckon I'm only getting about 5 decent hours at the moment anyway, and night feeds won't last as long as the pregnancy!! (I'm such a moaner - can't believe how much I've not enjoyed being pregnant...really never thought for a minute that I wouldn't)

Yeah I'm often awake for a couple of hours in the night. eating helps (but have just weighed myself for the first time in 2 months, put on 2 stone so far this pregnancy and still 10 weeks to go. sigh)

Just had most stupid comment of the year from a work colleague. Told him I was due mid april so he replied asking if I would be able to make an important meeting "in the second half of April". I know I said I might be able to do the occasional thing during maternity leave but honestly, how unaware can people be?

dot1 · 28/01/2004 15:38

Fennel - me too - just hit the 2 stone mark... bit annoyed 'cos in the middle bit I actually lost weight for a couple of weeks, and thought I wouldn't put on much, but my bump's gone mad in the last few weeks - I'm sure I'm not eating tons more as I'm feeling sick, so am trying to convince myself it must just be baby..! (OK - and maybe the odd Turkish Delight!).

Yes, work's very strange - I get comments every now and then about what a shame it is I'll miss the x meeting in March/April/May etc... Do they really think I'm going to care?! I've said I'll keep in touch with things via e-mail, but to be honest I don't know how often that's going to happen..!

I think I've put on one stone but I feel as though my bump is just huge and has grown so much in the last month. Bit scared about how much more it could grow in the next 2.

Fennel · 28/01/2004 16:42

Dot, yes my boss keeps telling me what a shame (for me) it is to miss things like conferences in May. as if, like you, I care. I have 30 more years of working life ahead if I want it.

I didn't think I was eating that much more than usual but I am eating now again (marmite toast) so I guess I must be.

Metrobaby · 29/01/2004 14:04

I haven't weighed myself yet - I'm sure I must be 2 stone though. I feel a lot bigger this time around.

I've also noticed that I have a tendancy to get very stroppy with people, and have a much shorter temper than usual. Poor dh often bears the brunt of it. I am hoping that these feelings don't pass over to the baby though !

Lesley76 · 29/01/2004 17:31

Hi I'm Lesley, can i join in this thread as i'm also due in mid April ( first baby)? I don't have many aches and pains so far except the sore hips at night - what helps with these? I also have pain in my hands and wrists, but only at night (very strange).

As soon as i lie down in bed i feel like a beached whale & struggle to turn over. In the day i feel fine and have only put on 8kg so far. Any suggestions to help the aching joints?

vict17 · 29/01/2004 19:14

Hi everyone. I've started waking up in the night with leg cramps now. Still taking Gaviscon on and off for that yukky acidy taste! Feel like an old woman walking very carefully to work on the icy pavements! Is any one still taking pregnancy vitamins? I was taking pregnacare but seem very expensive, now just taking cheapy vitamin C only.

hewlettsdaughter · 29/01/2004 19:45

I'm taking an iron supplement because my iron levels were borderline. No idea what weight I am - don't usually weigh myself and haven't during the pregnancy (think they weighed me on my first midwife visit but not sure they've done it since).
Lesley, could the pain in your hands and wrists be carpal tunnel syndrome? It is something that pregnant women can get I think.

Isn't it funny how varied everybody's aches and pains are yet we are going through the same thing.

No real aches and pains yet but am starting to get almost niggly pains down in my lower pelvis and some of my braxton hicks are a little painful (not quite a contraction painful though).
Anyone else noticing changes in the braxon hicks?

PS: I'm still taking pregnacare.

Lesley76 · 30/01/2004 16:23

Thanks for carpal tunnel suggestion - I'll check it out.

Dot1 re night time wees - I was constantly peeing from the first few weeks until about week 26 or 27. They checked me several times for UTIs and others nasties but nothing. I thought it was meant to ease up in 2nd trimester& was VERY fed up with it.

Anyway the good news is that i stopped having to get up in the night at about week 27. For no reason that I know of. I can drink right up until bedtime. And EAT oh yes I can eat!! Still need to go to the loo all the time in the day but as you know, its the broken sleep that really gets you down....

I know you are a few weeks ahead of me but maybe will stop just out of the bue for you as well????

dot1 · 02/02/2004 08:51

ooh - I hope it does stop..! I think it was only 3 times last night - if I can get back to sleep straight away I'm OK and it doesn't bother me, but we're hopefully completing on our house this week and the stress of thinking about moving in the next couple of weeks isn't helping....! CALM is what I keep telling myself...

Not sure if my Braxton Hicks are changing - maybe starting to be a bit more uncomfortable, and I'm getting sharper pains when I'm walking - I think it's just bump growing and pulling a bit - I keep wanting to 'carry' it in my hands! Strangely though I weighed myself yesterday (I do this whenever I go to my MIL's house - she's got posh scales!) and they were showing I'd lost 2lbs - but bump's getting HUGE and people are starting to ask when I'm due.... Baby must be eating into all my fat - hurrah!

udar · 02/02/2004 10:54

I've been asked so many times in the past couple of days 'so when is it due?' The other funny thing is almost everybody is saying you are having a boy. We are going to wait for a surprise but apparently there is something about the way I'm carrying that makes everybody think it is a boy - some man actually said it while I was having a rest between lengths at the pool yesterday.
My bump seems to be expanding at a great rate.

How often is everybody doing pelvic floor - I'm starting to find them more difficult to do now that the baby is getting heavier? I find I'm not doing them as often and it is probably now that I should be.

handlemecarefully · 02/02/2004 13:13

I've put on 2 stone 5 lbs so far (am 29 weeks) and I'm actually surprised it isn't more given my continuing gluttony (mars bar for breakfast - that kind of thing).

Had comments from "What a neat small little bump" (wot? - come again?), to "Not long now then, eh?". I'm not offended or bothered by such comments - just intrigued that they are diametrically opposed!

Sorry to hear that people are suffering from aches and pains. Apart from a couple of juicy varicose veins developing I haven't been too bad.

udar · 02/02/2004 13:22

Definately not offended - I'd rather people comment than touch my stomach which was something I had been warned happened all the time (hasn't happened yet thank goodness).
It is just curious that people seem to be so sure that I am having a boy - even people I hardly know.

I think my mother is getting worried about how little physical weight I have put on (via scales) but as she is in NZ and I'm in London she hasn't actually seen how big the bump actually is (certainly not small).

Not too many aches and pains except my back for which the accupuncture has been helping.
Isn't time ticking away quickly now January seems to have flown by.

Metrobaby · 02/02/2004 14:59

I weighed myself this morning and have put on 2stones already. I'm almost 30 weeks. Ho hum - not much I can do now - certainly not intending on dieting now ! Besides I tell myself I have to eat what am I eating as baby wants it.

Udar - I can't stand it if people touch my bump either. I hate it. Luckily no-one has done so so far, but I do tend to put my hands around my bump - hopefully it warns them off.

Bump is now starting to grow so much I am struggling to do my coat up !

handlemecarefully · 02/02/2004 15:07

Udar,

I think the amount of weight you have put on - i.e. one stone, is very healthy actually. I think ideally you are only supposed to gain one and a half to two stones by full term!

hewlettsdaughter · 02/02/2004 20:14

Hi all, well we bought a beanbag at the weekend as an alternative for me to sit on (I did wonder about a birthing ball, udar - but wasn't sure whether it would be comfortable enough for watching tv?). Lots of people seem to have an opinion on what sex your baby is going to be, don't they. I would have thought how you carry a baby had more to do with your physical build than what sex you're carrying, really - but, who knows? I'm all bump again this time - wonder whether it'll be another boy?

dot1 · 03/02/2004 12:01

I'm just hovering around the 2 stone mark - am 32 weeks today! Still pleased because I'd lost 3 stone before I got pregnant so I'm still winning!!

Just had ante natal and all's well - v. funny - had a medical student feel my bump after the midwife had and he couldn't tell which way up the baby was, bless him... I know it's not very sharing of me, but I'm going to ask for no medical students when I'm in labour - can't be doing with being a 'learning experience' whilst huffing and puffing!

Feels weird that my next hospital ante natal will be when I'm on maternity leave - just under 4 weeks to go until I finish!!

And no, I'm doing hardly any pelvic floors - keep forgetting...must try harder...

That's a positive approach Dot, if I count in the 2.5 stone I lost before this pregnancy after putting it on last pregnancy and breastfeeding dd2, I also have negative weight gain this pregnancy!

Went to my first ever pregnancy yoga class. it was the most sedentary exercise class ever, lots of sitting on a big birthing ball (which was actually quite comfy to sit on, surprisingly) and breathing gently.

udar · 03/02/2004 16:08

Is anybody else feeling suddenly more tired? I've just hit 32wk also and this week I have been feeling really tired and crap when I haven't really had a problem with energy levels through the pregnancy at all.
I suppose it is a question of is this normal or am I about to come down with the flu or something as it is going around work. Any thoughts.

dot1 · 03/02/2004 16:11

Hi Udar - bizarrely I'm feeling full of beans this week - for the first time in about a month..! I got v. tired and down at 29 weeks, but seem to be having an energy burst (won't last long...). Funny how it's so different for all of us - I think for me, bump seems to grow tons every couple of weeks, which makes me feel funny/tired/down and then I get used to it and I'm OK - probably time for another growth spurt soon but at the moment I'm enjoying feeling OK!

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 04/02/2004 09:08

Yes quite tired and not my usual stamina when dealing with dd!

udar · 04/02/2004 20:28

The last two days I've started having a bit of nausea - actually worse than what I had in the first trimester - it goes away when I eat. Probably means a growth spurt I would say, which would explain the growth spurt.
