Seems a lot of us are fat and hot and fed up of being pregnant. So any tips? We have all heard the curry, sex, pineapple suggestions. How about something interesting and a little inventive?

At the very least it will make us giggle and forget about not being able to see our feet

Ask someone strong to help roll you onto the trampoline, and bounce, bounce, bounce!

PixieCake · 27/07/2010 17:51

What are you supposed to do with the pineapple??

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 27/07/2010 17:55

You know, I have been wishing I could have a go on a trampoline for days now

I just have this feeling its what I need to do. I thought about going on the bouncy castle at the car boot on sunday morning but DP was aghast at the idea.

My other half has taken to knocking on my belly and loudly saying "helloooo, little guy? It's about time you came out now", on a regular basis. Not working so far.

What about space hopper races?

Alicetheinvisible · 27/07/2010 20:20

Space hopper race could do

I'm thinking about getting on my horse, if it worked for Mary on the donkey......

The husband has taken to giving precise instructions to my belly on how she is to get out...nothing yet. Am very hot and uncomfortable today!

Have tried a few pineapples...nothing yet. Ditto curry, but then I only had a tikka masala so maybe that's why!

Porcelain · 27/07/2010 20:31

apparently you need about 3 whole fresh pineapples a day to get enough of the magic substance therin.

I had a curry at the weekend but it didn't bother my digestive system one bit, so I couldn't expect it to bother baby. Stupid iron clad constitution. That said, I really don't think I would want curry tummy in labour.

Alicetheinvisible · 27/07/2010 20:32

So with pineapples it is something in it, not just too much fruit?

Ok, there are more tried and tested methods, but these have worked for friends...

Borrow a toddler and chase it around a soft play place.

Get really really angry about something (you've heard the expression "fit to burst")

Someone I know swears by holding a newborn.

Alicetheinvisible · 27/07/2010 20:41

Already have a toddler, perhaps we should go climbing at the soft play

Well obviously nothing works. It's all crap old wives' tales. Of course people have sex/eat pineapple/eat curry and go into labour but for every one of them there are 100 other women who sat on the sofa or slept.

So, in the spirit of nothing working anyway I vote you do whatever you bloomin' well please. May as well.

And the pineapple thing, you'd need 8 in one sitting to even start approaching the levels of enzyme you're after. And even then it's unlikely to work. And you'd feel rubbish.

Wallace · 27/07/2010 20:42

I swear by nipple twiddling

Alicetheinvisible · 27/07/2010 20:42

Bollocks to that!

Alicetheinvisible · 27/07/2010 20:42

I meant to the 8 pineapples!

OP posts:
Wallace · 27/07/2010 20:44

I thought so, the nipple-twiddling can be quite fun actually

I ate about 6 pineapples in 4 days. I've NEVER felt so awful. And it didn't work.

Walk sideways up and down the stairs 10 times before you go to bed tonight. Yes. That's 10 times up, and 10 times down, sideways. Apparently it softens your cervix - worked for me!! (and I was DESPERATE!!)

catinboots · 27/07/2010 21:33

Please let me know if the stair thing works?? Then I can say ner ner ner to all my friends who said it was just coincidence!!!

RoseNoir · 27/07/2010 22:26

Ha ha, for a moment I was picturing you lying down sideways and trying to manouevre yourself up and doen stairs, lol!!

Then thought no, you prbably mean walking ie facing the wall or banister type sideways brilliant! Doh.

My friend said a bus ride/car journey over some very bumpy (think sleeping policemen style) roads.

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 07:02

Well, plan for today:

Walk sideways up and down the stairs then go for a drive round the new housing development over all the bumps. Do i need to go at speed?

How about going sledging down a dry bumpy hill?

What you need is to get the oxytocin hormone flowing- that means get loved up and relaxed. What gets the baby in gets it out. That's why nipple stimulation works (Need to keep at it for quite a while though) and is probably where the hold a newborn story comes from too. lots french kissing, heavy petting etc. Apparently clary sage oil on belly also works though I'm no expert on aromatherapy. Google accupressure points for stimulating labour too.

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 07:23

DH helped me out last night

Keep us updated

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 08:49

Think it is unlikely as have 12days til due date. Feel just poorly today

Kitchen is being started today, do you think that is an inventive way to get labour started?

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 28/07/2010 08:56

Plan to do something you've wanted to do for ages, sod's law means that you will end up going into labour so you can't do it!
