Seems a lot of us are fat and hot and fed up of being pregnant. So any tips? We have all heard the curry, sex, pineapple suggestions. How about something interesting and a little inventive?

At the very least it will make us giggle and forget about not being able to see our feet

I ate two pineapples in one sitting when I was overdue with DS. All I managed to do was burn my lips with all that acid.

BalloonSlayer · 28/07/2010 08:59

Oh yes I know someone convinced that hearing a (newborn?) baby cry started her off

LooL00 · 28/07/2010 10:16

We bought a new fridge the day i went into labour with dc2, and a new freezer a few days before labour started with dc3.So who knows if your new kitchen will make a difference Alicetheinvis ?

ShowOfHands · 28/07/2010 10:21

I was eating rice and watching Kill Bill when my waters popped out of nowhere. That must mean that rice induces labour and viewing of Kill Bill has a direct causal link to waters breaking.

I may write a book.

I imagine that having a housefull of workmen would be enough to make going to labour quite inconvenient Alice, so sods law says, it may well work.

Palace39 · 28/07/2010 14:18

Ah you're thinking on my wavelength- i've booked various things in for the next two weeks like a sofa delivery, carpet fitting and fireplace fitting. The 'law of sod' says that labour will only start when i need to be at home for something, so i expect baby to turn up on one of these three days.

SPD has interupted every lunch plan i had so surely this is guaranteed to work.....?

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 17:32

Well i tried to go on a bouncy castle this afternoon but the man wouldn't let me. Planning on the park tomorrow and possibly softplay next week.

Hey, what's a bit of amniotic fluid in the ball pool

My midwife also recommended reflexology...not sure of the science but seemed a good excuse to have a lovely lady come to the house and play with my feet for an hour this afternoon!

mears · 28/07/2010 21:46

Forget them all as a waste of space. 'when the apple is ripe, it will drop' as my old Dad alwyas said to me

Haliborange · 28/07/2010 21:49

Lol at the bouncy castle. Me and my cousin both went on one when nearly term and our babies were both born within 3 weeks of that. Admittedly that was when they were due so not terribly surprising...

Haliborange · 28/07/2010 21:49

...and there is little that scares a bouncy-castle man more than a couple of heavily pregnant women creeping on for a turn!

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 21:57

Mrs - i had reflexology on monday - bliss!

ANy luck yet?

Porcelain · 03/08/2010 14:35

None here, although I keep having one-off contractions (and a couple of times had 2/3 at 10 min intervals) over the last couple of days. Not sure if this is significant or not, but it's really frustrating when one starts and I get all hopeful, then it goes away again.

MrsC2010 · 03/08/2010 16:33

Grrr nothing here.

I went to the unit yesterday as I hadn't felt much movement so was having a worry, heart rate and everything was fine. The monitors picked up some small, fairly regular contractions while I was there, which felt lower than normal BH which got my hopes up a little, nothing concrete yet though. MW said that all signs were good, so keeping fingers crossed. Have had the odd BH today, am also feeling v tired, sore and grumpy today...poor husband!

I see the MW tomorrow for routine appt, had hoped I wouldn't be needing it but guess I will, she is just too comfy in there! She mentioned at the last appt that she would book me a sweep for next Mon or Tues at the appt tomorrow, I think I'm going to ask if she can do it on Fri instead, otherwise there is only a day or so for the sweep to have any effect before they move straight onto induction, which I want to avoid as much as physically possible.

Come on baby!!!

broughthimroundtotheidea · 06/08/2010 19:34

Nipple twiddling worked for me with my second who was 5 days overdue. When I got to the hospital the contractions slowed right down so I twiddled again and they were back and really nasty ones!! Still ended up with a second CS though due to my "funny shaped pelvis"

lilllysa · 07/08/2010 09:42

I was told by the midwife that sex doesn't work as well as people think as the 'magic stuff' isn't getting to the right place! Need to swallow it. Iyswim lol

YummyMummy1208 · 07/08/2010 20:00

Heres another vote for the Bumpy Road idea! My OH took me down THE bumpiest country road i have ever been down, next morning i went into labour.

Obviously could have been a coincidence so i plan to try it this time round aswell to test it out!

Candinha · 07/08/2010 20:10

I went for long walks and both times it started labour - mind you I was very tired by the time babies arrived Hmm Despite that I am doing the same this time, as soon as my due date is imminient I will be taking dogs up the hill Smile and hope for the best!

Alicetheinvisible · 11/08/2010 09:57

Ok, now 40+2 and despite early labour signs, my cervix is apparently so far back it is practically non existant Hmm

Off up the gallops for a walk this lunchtime i think.

How would swallowing 'it' help? Surely the idea is that it needs to pool against your cervix to help soften?

I had a couple of acupuncture treatments to help DS2 along, he arrived the day after the second one at 40+4.

redpickle · 11/08/2010 11:05

Get thee to Holland and Barrett and get some Rasperry Leaf Tea! Worked for me (or it could have been coincidence)

Alicetheinvisible · 11/08/2010 11:10

Already on it!

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 11/08/2010 12:43

Swallowing it won't help at all as the essential ingredients - prostaglandins - are destroyed by the acid and enzymes in the stomach. Clearly a myth invented by a man wanting a blow job! Grin

No idea if sex does work, but the theory is better - that's why you have a pessary for induction, after all. Gets the prostaglandins right next to the cervix. Based on that, you should obviuously stay lying down afterwards, to keep the good stuff there, don't dash off to the loo! Wink

Alicetheinvisible · 11/08/2010 16:49

Right, early night tonight Wink
