my dd's pony is called Harvey.

I REALLY wanted to call him Tony the Pony but he came ready named, sadly.

I might use the name Shane if I had a Great Dane though...

princesspeahead · 24/08/2005 14:13

Don't think I'm upsetting anyone - if they are called Shane they KNOW it is a crap name and wouldn't inflict it on anyone else.
If they called their kid Shane they need to be told it is crap so they try harder next time.

I know of a Shane - he is 7. He was born when his mother was 16; she managed to fit her GCSEs around the birth but left school straight after. He is a nice little boy, actually (his mum was at school with DD1 who encounters them occasionally) but the name does imply otherwise - sorry, Maddison.

You could always move to the US - you can call a child anything there - totally non-judgmental. DD1 just came back from counseling at summer camp and I have had my usual glorious time poring over the names in the yearbook

Sterling & Sydney Dixon
Shira Clement
Moranda Bromberg
Daveed Audel
Shayne Hindes (there's one )
Jordyn Honigfeld
Audrey Engelman
Coby Greenberg
Mila Heneck
Briana Lapa
Dolly Kasner
Bari Lager
Blair & Lexi Lipkin
Milena Newmark
Harli Thau

(I could go on but I won't!)

She travelled back to NYC in a coach with some of the kids and was talking to twins called Dylan and Max - girls! - whose mother or aunt has just a new baby girl. She is called B. (The twins rolled their eyes at DD1's face and said "I know"!!!)

sweetkitty · 24/08/2005 14:15

Duncan James' new daughter is called Tianie-Finn quite like Tianie apparently it's Irish

princesspeahead · 24/08/2005 14:17

Janh those are FANTASTIC! Bari Lager - that is the finest name I have ever encountered. Bari Lager!!!!
Interesting that 90% of them are jewish - I thought they went for more traditional names, obviously not!

niceglasses · 24/08/2005 14:19

Our cat is called Pat - makes Postman Pat really confusing... or maybe its just me. Sorry, babbling now.....I would have quite liked Patrick for one of the boys..like Paddy, but our surname is Fitzpatrick...hmmm.

Janh · 24/08/2005 14:20

Well I picked the best ones for you, pph - half the girls are called Jessica in fact and about a quarter of the boys are Sam.

DD1's absolute favourite child is called Jessica Nosenchuk, known as Jessie Nose

Janh · 24/08/2005 14:21

Just spotted Sam Schwamm!
