we started potty training dd in january, she never has any wee accidents, but she still very rarely uses the potty/toilet for her poo's

he only way she will poo in the potty/toilet is if she has a totally nude bottom (no knickers or trousers). this is ok in the house as if I see the signs that she needs to go (she sits down and hides in the corner) i take them off her. everywhere else, or if i dont catch her in time she just uses the knickers like a nappy.

I can spend ALL day asking her if she needs to go and she always says no. we seem to have tried everything: ignoring the accidents, HUGE praise for doing it, sticker/choc rewards, special treats, getting cross with her etc etc but nothing seems to work.

Can anyone help me?? she will be 3 next week and is the only child in her nursery group that isnt potty trained, which the nursery staff kindly remind me off each week !!She totally understands what she should be doing and is very bright and articulate in every other area.

thanks in advance

another one looking for advice here! only three weeks into 'potty training' but DD had wees cracked from day 2 - no accidents since then, and mostly dry nappies at night (dunno how or why, but hope that's that!!) But we've only had two poo's on the potty, and both have been cos i've caught her just as she's about to do them in her pants...

she has slow bowel/probs with constipation (has done for last 18 months (now 2.10) so usually ony goes every couple of days, but i think the 'stress' of trying to do it in the potty or on the loo is adding to the problem..

have been v chilled out with her, and she desperately wants the mini-twixes we've reserved for successful poos, but just doesn't seem able to do it.... it usually seems to happen a couple of hours after she's gone to bed and is flat out (i think maybe once her bowel has relaxed and she's not actually awake)... she then wakes up VERY VERY upset with a rock hard golf ball of poo in her nappy - it's just horrid for her

she has high fibre diet, eats loads of fresh and dried fruit every day, runs/walks a lot and i resort to lactulose or movicol if she hasn't gone by the end of day two, but all to know apparent avail... i don't know what to do!

i feel so much better for reading this thread though, thank you... and sorry for rambling!!

This has been a very cathartic experience... DD is 3.5 and will only poo in her pull-ups, despite weeing happily on the potty and loo for MONTHS. Am reaching the point where I am about to crack - neither of her big brothers were this difficult about it all and I'd always heard girls are easier...

Some good suggestions here and on the threads that DaddyJ linked to - especially like the idea of the "practice sitting", bubble blowing etc.

As soon as I've got rid of the yucky virus that has sent me to bed, I'll be on the case...

Just wanted to update on how things are going with us to give everyone a bit of much needed hope. DD2 has been doing her poos (three or four a day ) on toilet or potty for THREE WEEKS now!!!!!!!

She had one awful day of pooing in her pants three times (twice in one pub lunch visit ) and then that was it. The next day she woke up and decided to start doing it properly.

We've been able to go outside the house and have a life and everything!!!

Keep your chin up everyone - somehow, they will get it. Good luck to you all!!!!!!!

One more bump and three cheers for this terrific thread!

Just to give you an update from the Other Side:
It's not all plain sailing once they 'get' it.
We had some mysterious regressive phases and a few accidents - including two today!

By and large, though, it's nice not to have to stress about this particular thing anymore.
Now we can stress about other things

Good luck to everyone!

One more post for future reference:
This past 2 weeks marked the first time the whole thing has become a non-issue, at home, at nursery, everywhere.

Given that we started in June, that's quite an eye-opener and good to remember for next time..
